  • In recent years, high-temperature superconductor (HTS) Quadruple Triplets are being developed for heavy ion accelerators, because the HTS magnets are suitable to withstand radiation and high heat loads in the hot cell of accelerators. Generally, an iron yoke, which costs a mass of material, was employed to enhance the magnetic field when a quadrupole magnet was designed. The type of the magnet is called iron-dominated magnet, because the total magnetic field was mainly induced by the iron. However, in the HTS superconductor iron-dominated magnets, the coil-induced field also can have a certain proportion. Therefore, the air-core HTS quadrupole magnets can be considered instead of the iron-core HTS quadrupole magnet to be employed to save the iron material. This study presents the design of an air-core HTS quadruple triplet which consists three by air-core HTS quadruple magnet and compare the design result with that of an iron-core HTS quadruple triplet. First, the characteristics of an air-core HTS quadrupole magnet were analyzed to select the magnet system for the magnetic field uniformity impairment. Then, the field uniformity was improved(< 0.1%) exactly using evolution strategy (ES) method for each iron-core HTS quadrupole magnet and the air-core HTS quadruple triplet was established. Finally, the designed air-core triplet was compared with the iron-core HTS quadruple triplet, and the results of beam trajectories were presented with both the HTS quadruple triplet systems to show that the air-core triplet can be employed instead of the iron-core HTS triplet. The design of the air-core quadruple triplet was suggested for a heavy ion accelerator.

  • Uniformity of velocity is quite important design points of a vertical laminar flow type clean room. In the present paper, flows in a room with a bottom pannel are numerically simulated by using a low-Reynolds number $k-{\epsilon}$ model, and a new flow model of the pannel are suggested. Resistance coefficient of the pannel and size of the exhaust channel show considerable effects on flow pattern and uniformity of flow on the bottom. Reflection coefficient also has important roles. A possibility to obtain the uniform and unidirectional flow is tested by adjusting the distribution of resistance coefficient of the pannel. Such a numerical simulation of the flow will be a good method to get optimun design parameters.

  • One aims to find out how the operation condition of secondary inlet angle effects the temperature distribution inside a small incinerator. A finite volume commercial code, PHONICS, is used to simulate the temperature field in an incinerator. The computational grid system is constructed by Multi-Block technique. The governing equations based on the curvilinear coordinates are used. Numerical experiments are done with the five variations of secondary air inlet. The temperature distribution is quantified by the statistical deviation of temperature in an incinerator. The computational analysis says that the certain angle of secondary air inlet could improve the uniformity of temperature distribution in an incinerator.

  • A flow uniformity in a duct cooler of duct system of FGD(Flue Gas Desulfurization) linking a reheater and a absorber has been investigated in the present study. For this purpose, the flow characteristics according to the geometry of a vertical and horizontal vane in a curved duct of the duct system has been examined with the aid of a numerical simulation. The results indicate that the vertical vane with a little deflection toward a recirculation region makes the flow distribution in the duct cooler more uniform than that without deflection, and horizontal vane does not effect the change of the flow distribution for an angle of inclination. The mean flow uniform factor shows its maximum for duct system without the vane(case NP) and its minimum for the vertical vane with a little deflection(case P-0.8-0) .

  • Industrial electrostatic precipitators require a highly uniform velocity distribution in the collecting chamber. Increasing divergence angle of a diffuser makes a non-uniformity flow distribution characteristics on the diffuser exit. This paper provides CFD results of optimum positions and opening rates of perforated plates which were installed in the electrostatic precipitator. The considered divergence angels were 60 degree and 90 degree. In 90 degree diffuser, a blanking method was used.

  • In the catalytic combustor, combustion characteristic and deterioration of catalysts were affected by non-uniformity of pre-mixed gas, Therefore, formation of uniform pre-mixed gas is one of important subjects. In this study, the effect of uniformity and non-uniformity of pre-mixed gas supplied to the catalyst was examined to clarify reaction acceleration and combustion characteristic of the catalytic combustion. It was clarified that static mixer or vaporizer tube length of about 150mm and weak swirl to a combustion air were effictive expedient to make uniform pre-mixed gas. And catalystic inlet temperature needs more than $600^{\circ}C$ with rich pre-mixed gas to active reaction.

  • Selective Catalytic Reduction(SCR) has been used for the reduction of $NO_x$ in a steam supply boiler. Recently, the reduction of $NO_x$ becomes an important research field because of its negative effect on an environment. Shape optimization of circular poles installed in the chamber, which is located in upstream of a SCR, has been performed using response surface method and three-dimensional Navier-Stokes analysis to enhance gas flow uniformity. Three design parameters, diameter, arranging angle and stretching ratio of circular poles, are considered in the present study. Throughout the shape optimization of a circular pole, gas flow uniformity is successfully increased by decreasing local recirculation flow in a square duct chamber. Recirculation flow observed in the corner of the square duct can be reduced by proper installation of a guide vane or a blunt body. Detailed flow characteristics are also analyzed and discussed.

  • Air pluviation method is widely adopted for preparation of large, uniform and repeatable sand beds of desired densities for laboratory studies to simulate in-situ conditions and obtain test results which are highly reliable. This paper presents details of a portable traveling pluviator recently developed for model sand bed preparation. The pluviator essentially consisted of a hopper, orifice plates for varying deposition intensity, combination of flexible and rigid tubes for smooth travel of material, and a set of diffuser sieves to obtain uniformity of pluviated sand bed. It was observed that sand beds of lower relative density can be achieved by controlling height of fall, whereas, denser sand beds could be obtained by controlling deposition intensity. Uniformity of pluviated sand beds was evaluated using cone penetration test and at lower relative densities minor variation in density was observed with depth. With increase in relative density of sand bed higher repeatability of uniform pluviation was achieved.

  • The performance of the ammonia injection gun (AIG) used for maximizing the utilization of reducing agent in the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system is decided by several parameters such as the pattern of flow distribution, geometry of the air distribution manifold (ADM) and the array and geometry of nozzles. In the study, the uniformity of jet flows from the nozzles in AIG was analyzed statistically by using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method to evaluate the role of design parameters on the performance of the SCR system. The uniformity of jet flows from the nozzles is being deteriorated with increasing the supplying flow rate to the AIG. Distribution rates to each branch pipe become lower with decreasing distance to the header, and flow rates from nozzle are also reduced with decreasing distance to the header. The uniformity of jet flows from nozzles becomes stable significantly when the ratio of summative area of nozzles to each sectional area of the branch pipe is below 0.5.

  • Mild combustion is considered as a promising combustion technology for energy saving and low emission of combustion product gases. In this paper, the controllability of reaction region in mild combustion is examined by using co-axial air nozzle. For this purpose, numerical approach is carried out. Propane is considered for fuel and air is considered for oxidizer and the temperature of air is assumed 900K slightly higher than auto ignition temperature of propane. But unlike main air, the atmospheric condition of co-axial air is considered. Various cases are conducted to verify the characteristics of Co-Axial air burner configuration. The use of coaxial air can affect reaction region. These modification help the mixing between fuel and oxidizer. Then, reaction region is reduced compare to normal burner configuration. The enhancement of main air momentum also affects on temperature uniformity and reaction region. The eddy dissipation concept turbulence/chemistry interaction model is used with two step of global chemical reaction model.
