밀폐된 공간에서 환기에 의한 ETS 성분 제거

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the ventilation to remove gases, vapor and particles of environmental tobacco smoke(ETS) in a closed room. The ventilation rate choosed were 0.445 ㎥/min, 0.528 ㎥/min, and 0.625 ㎥/min. ETS components measured were total suspended particle(TSP), ultraviolet particulate matter(UVPM), fluorescent particulate matter(FPM), solanesol, carbon dioxide($CO_2$), carbon monoxide(CO), nicotine, and 3-ethenylpyri-dine(3-EP). The concentration of ETS components measured rapidly decreased as increasing ventilation rate, but the removal efficiency by ventilation was different from each ETS compounds. The $CO_2$, and CO, gaseous components of ETS, were dominant components to be removed from the room by ventilation. The ventilation with 0.528 ㎥/min for 1 hr was enough to remove over 99% of those gaseous components. Nicotine and 3-EP needed the ventilation for 2 hrs to reduce over 95 % of those components. As the same ventilation rate, 99 % of TSP and solanesol concentration were removed from the room within 2 hrs, UVPM and FPM concentration decreased 90 %.

  • 라돈은 암석이나 토양 같은 지각물질에서 발생되는 우라늄($^{238}$ U) 붕괴계열인 라듐($^{226}$ Ra)의 붕괴과정에서 생성된다. 라돈($^{222}$ Rn)은 붕괴하면서 $\alpha$방사선을 방출한다. $\alpha$ 붕괴에 의하여 $^{218}$ Po, $^{214}$ Po, $^{214}$ Bi 등의 자핵종(Radon daughter)을 생성하며, 이 과정에서 인체의 세포를 죽이거나 염색체를 손상시킬 수 있으며, 폐암의 발생 위험률을 높이는 것으로 보고되었다$^{1)}$ . 라돈은 건물의 균열, 연결부위, 혹은 배수관이나 오수간, 주변의 틈을 통해서 실내로 유입된다.   • 대기중의 2차 광화학 반응을 포함하는 대기중의 반응을 이해하고 해석하기 위하여 Smog Chamber를 이용한 대기중 광화학 반응연구가 활발히 진행 중에 있으며, 국내에서도 연구가 이루어지고 있다 이러한 연구들은 고농도 수준에서 광화학 반응 메커니즘에 중점을 두고 있는 것으로 실제 대기의 농도수준에서 광화학반응에 관한 연구자료는 미흡한 실정이다. 또한, 서울지역의 경우 광화학 스모그의 대표적인 경우에 해당하는 LA Smog의 경우와 비교할 때 습도가 높으며, 대기 중 먼지의 농도 또한 비교적 높다고 볼 수 있으며 이러한 서울지역의 광화학 스모그 특성을 규명하기 위하여 기초연구라 할 수 있는 Smog Chamber 연구가 필요하다.   • 우리 일상생활 가운데 80% 이상은 실내에서 보내기 때문에 실내공기는 우리 인체에 대단히 중요하다. 실내공기를 오염시키는 오염원들은 담배연기, 연한 및 석유난로 음식요리과정, 실내 건축 자재 등이라고 추정할 수 있다. 저자등은 겨울철에 석유나 연탄으로 난방을 하는 사무실, 시장, 식당, 연구실 등의 실내를 대상으로 흡입성 분진량과 연량을 측정하여 실내공기 오염도를 조사한 결과 흡입성 분진량은 $0.03mg/m^3-16.14mg/m^3$이였으며 연의량은 $0.250-3.975ug/m^3$로 나타났다.

Genotoxicity of the Herbicide 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D): Higher Plants as Monitoring Systems

  • Higher plants provide valuable genetic assay systems for screening and monitoring environmental pollutants. They are now recognized as excellent indicators of mutagenic effects of environmental chemicals and are applicable for the detection of environmental mutagens both indoor and outdoor. 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is a herbicide commonly used in agriculture. The residues of 2,4-D are present in air, water, soil and edible plants. It constitutes a real hazard to the public health because it's wide spread use in agriculture. Genotoxic effects of 2,4-D on plant cells and potential of higher plants as a biomonitoring system for detecting chemical mutagens are evaluated. It is recommended that higher plant systems have been accepted by regulatory authorities as an alternative biomonitoring system for the detection of possible genetic damage resulting from pollution and the use of environmental chemicals.

  • This research is aimed to study the finishing material applied in interior space for improving residential environment. First of all, it finds out what is 'Sick Building Syndrome' and 'Sick House Syndrome', how harmful to human body about indoor air pollution substance (such as volatility organic compound, formaldehyde) and investigate the effect when the environment-friendly finishing material is used. Secondly, classify and examine all kind of finishing material applied in interior space. Finally, after emphasize the importance of environment-friendly finishing material from domestic or overseas, this research suggest the basic information of environment-friendly finishing material in order to use in the future buildings.

양돈시설 내부의 악취조졸에 관한 기술 및 연구동향 (A Review of the Odor Control From Inside of Swine Production Facilities)

  • Recent public concern about air pollution caused by swine production facilities has forced to develop the methods to reduce and control the swine odors. Swine odors were affected the life of pig farm neighborhoods, swine productivity, pig health, diseases, and human right, safety, sanity as negatively. The first approaches of control of swine odors are the change or improve of the classical management systems, which are manure treatment method, manure storage facility, phase feeding, sex-divided feeding, feeder type, liquid-slurry feeding, environment control of swine building and dust control of indoor swine facility. The methods to control odor emission from manure have to include the diet modification as nutritional basis. In recent, research emphasis has focused on manipulating the swine diet to increase the nutrient utilization of the diet to reduce excretion products and reduction of odors. There are lots of feed additives and pit additives introduced as practical basis for reducing odor emissions. The ozone treatment method is candidate as the good system for reducing swine odor. But this system is still too expensive to practice in present.

일본 신축주택의 실내 VOC의 실태와 농도추이 특성에 의한 유형별 대표물질선정 (Selection on Representative Compound According to the Characteristics of the Change of VOC Concentration Indoor from the Newly Built House in Japan)

  • The VOC, which were detected from the newly built house, exist as a certain number of types according to the characteristics of the change of VOC concentration indoors. In this paper, we aim to divide the VOC into types so that those with similar characteristics of the transition of their concentration are in the same group and select the representative compound according to each classified type, and to verify these processes statistically in order to verify and propose new method creating the representing index of the VOC concentration in indoor which is used in evaluation of the degree of air pollution. As a result, the characteristic of the change of VOC concentration in the indoor can be divided into three types. Type1; the group in which the concentration is relatively high right after the completion of the house, and then decreases rapidly. Type2; the group in which the concentration is relatively low right after the completion of the house, and then although it shows the tendency of increasing and decreasing repeatedly, it decreases overall. Type3 is the group, which show only one peak at a certain time during the measuring period. As the method like this was verified to have the statistical significance, the Ethylbenzene was selected as the representative compound of type1, and Styrene was selected as that of type2. Moreover, if considering transition of the VOC from the point of similarity, the research method of making the classification and the selection of the representative compound in this study are said to be significant method.

국내 대기 중 독성 휘발성 유기화합물의 오염 특성(I) - 측정 방법론 평가 - (Characteristics of Atmospheric Concentrations of Toxic Volatile Organic Compounds in Korea ( I ) - Evaluation of Sampling and Analytical Methodology)

  • This study was designed to investigate the characteristics of atmospheric concentrations of toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in Korea. Target compounds included 1,3-butadiene, aromatics such as BTEX, and a number of carbonyl compounds. In this paper, as the first part of the study, the performance of sampling and analytical methods was evaluated for the measurement of selected VOCs and carbonyl compounds in the ambient air. VOCs were determined by the adsorbent tube sampling and automatic thermal desorption coupled with GC/MSD analysis, while carbonyls by the DNPH-silica cartridge sampling with HPLC analysis. The methodology was investigated with a wide range of performance criteria such as repeatability, linearity. lower detection limits, collection efficiency, thermal conditioning, breakthrough volume and calibration methods using internal standards. In addition, the sampling and analytical methods established in this study were applied to real field samples duplicately collected in various ambient environments. Precisions for the duplicate samples appeared to be comparable with the performance criteria recommended by USEPA TO-17. The overall precision of the sampling and analytical methods was estimated to be within 20 ∼ 30% for major aromatic VOCs such as BTEX, whereas the precision for major carbonyl compounds such as formaldehyde and acetaldehyde was within 10 ∼ 20% for field samples. This study demonstrated that the adsorbent sampling and thermal desorption method can be reliably applied for the measurement of BTEX in ppb levels frequently occurred in common indoor and ambient environments.

신너사용 작업장의 유기용제 노출 및 $TiO_2$ 광촉매를 이용한 BTX처리에 관한 연구 (Organic Solvent Exposure of Thinner-Using Occupation and Its Treatment by Means of $TiO_2$ Photocatalyst)

  • Ultimate objective of industrial hygiene is the prevention of health impairment that may result from exposure to chemicals at workplace. Workers in solvent thinner-using occupation environment may be highly exposed to VOCs (volatile organic compounds) because solvent thinner has been used extensively such as painting, spraying, degreasing, coating and so on in Korea. The purpose of this study was to recognize, evaluate, and propose the control methods of VOCs from solvent thinner-using workplace. Five target volatile organic compounds (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, o-xylene, and m-xylene) were monitored in H company of Shiwa Industrial Complex and analyzed in perosnal, occupational indoor and outdoor during working hours simultaneously. Engineering control such as local ventilation should be made in considering the long-term exposure, though measured VOCs concentration did not exceed the workplace exposure standards. In addition, air cleaning device should be installed in local ventilation because Shiwa Industrial Complex has had the serious ambient air pollution. Currently, environmental purification using $TiO_2$ photocatalyst have attracted a great deal of attention with increasing number of recent environmental problems. In this study, $TiO_2$ sol coated on the ceramic bead was prepared by sol-gel method and the photodegradation of target compounds was investigated in gas phase by the exposure to UV-A lamp(365nm) in a batch system.
