The present paper centers on the establishment of a quantified relationship between the macroscopic visual parameters of a Diesel spray and its most influential factors. The factors considered are the ambient gas density, as an external condition relative to the injection system, and nozzle hole diameter and injection pressure as internal ones. The main purpose of this work is to validate and extend the different correlations available in the literature to the present state of the Diesel engine, i.e. high injection pressure, small nozzle holes, severe cavitating conditions, etc. Five mono-orifice, axi-symmetrical nozzles with different diameters have been studied in two different test rigs from which one can reproduce solely the real engine in-cylinder air density, and the other, both the density and the pressure. A parametric study was carried out and it enabled the spray tip penetration to be expressed as a function of nozzle hole diameter, injection pressure and environment gas density. The temporal synchronization of the penetration and injection rate data revealed a possible explanation for the discontinuity observed as well by other authors in the spray's penetration law. The experimental results obtained from both test rigs have shown good agreement with the theoretical analysis. There have been observed small but consistent differences between the two test rigs regarding the spray penetration and cone angle, and thus an analysis of the possible causes for these differences has also been included.

Gas-Assisted Injection Molding(GAIM) process, that can be used to provide a hollow shape in a molding, is a variant of the conventional injection molding process. GAIM has many advantages such as reduction of material, sink mark. warpage. and lower injection pressure. Thus, GAIM has been widely applied in the industry to make moldings with a hollow channel such as handles, TV frames and so on. On the other hand, GAIM has some disadvantages such as slow cooling time and flow marks. In the disadvantages, hot gas core causes slow cooling of a molding and the overflow. which is to prevent flow mark. is waste of materials. To solve these problems, we developed a new GAIM system that we called RGIM(Reverse Gas Injection Molding). The RGIM has two special units; one is the overflow buffer, which is used for reduction of a material, and the other tile air unit, which is used for faster cooling of a molding. We conducted an experiment and simulation to verify the efficiency of the RGIM system. Through experiments and simulation, we confirmed the effectively operating of the RGIM system and extracted the optimum process conditions.

A Study on the optimal design of the AIG(Ammonia Injection Grid) to improve the performance of DeNOx facilities in the HRSG(Heat Recovery Steam Generator) was performed using the CFD analysis. On the basis of the flow analysis results in the case that the AIG in the HRSG was not installed, the numerical analyses according to the positions of AIG, injection angles of nozzle and the control of ammonia injection quantity were carried out. The standard deviation according to factors was calculated for quantitative comparison. As the results, the AIG in the HRSG should be installed in the position that the uniform flow field shows through the exact flow analysis in the previous of the AIG design and installation. In the case the AIG has already been installed and non uniform flow distribution shows, it is recommended that flow correction device or KoNOx catalyst should be used. Otherwise, the control of ammonia injection angle or the ammonia injection quantity using the velocity profile analysis is demanded to accomplish the optimal performance.
Background: Chest tube drainage (CTD) is an indication for the treatment of pneumothorax, hemothroax and is used after a thoracic surgery. But, in the case of incomplete lung expansion, and/or persistent air leak from CTD, medical or surgical thoracoscopy or, if that is unavailable, limited thoracotomy, should be considered. We evaluate the efficacy of bronchoscopic injection of ethanolamine to control the persistent air leak in patients with CTD. Methods: Patients who had persistent or prolonged air leak from CTD were included, consecutively. We directly injected 1.0 mL solution of 5% ethanolamine oleate into a subsegmental or its distal bronchus, where it is a probable air leakage site, 1 to 21 times using an injection needle through a fiberoptic bronchoscope. Results: A total of 15 patients were enrolled; 14 cases of spontaneous pneumothorax [idiopathic 9, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) 3, post-tuberculosis 2] and one case of empyema associated with broncho-pleural fistula. Of these, five were patients with persistent air leak from CTD, just after a surgical therapy, wedge resection with plication for blebs or bullae. With an ethanolamine injection therapy, 12 were successful but three (idiopathic, COPD and post-tuberculosis) failed, and were followed by a surgery (2 cases) or pleurodesis (1 case). Some adverse reactions, such as fever, chest pain and increased radiographic opacities occurred transiently, but resolved without any further events. With success, the time from the procedure to discharge was about 3 days (median). Conclusion: Bronchoscopic ethanolamine injection therapy may be partially useful in controlling air leakage, and reducing the hospital stay in patients with persistent air leak from CTD.
In this study, we investigated characteristics of a gas flow and a combustion property during the combustion of a RDF in a pyrolysis melting incinerator with disposal rate of 30 kg/hr. The RDF was pyrolyzed through the pyrolysis chamber at $600^{\circ}C$ of the chamber surface without oxygen condition. The pyrolysis gas was injected in the combustion chamber. It was burned by means of the staged combustion that was injecting secondary and tertiary air in the combustor. We measured the temperatures and the gas components in the combustion chamber while maintaining the air-fuel ratio of 1.3. Finally, we confirm that additional air injection, secondary and tertiary air ratio, was the most important factor to reduce NOx.
An air levitation type wafer transfer system is composed of control and transfer track. Wafer transfer speed is mainly affected by air velocity of propulsion nozzle. In this study, the propulsion force coefficient was evaluated experimentally for the nozzle with 0.5mm, 0.8mm, and 1.0mm diameter. As a result, the propulsion force was largest in the smallest size of nozzle at same air velocity. The propulsion force coefficient of nozzle increases with reducing diameter of nozzle. This increment of propulsion force coefficient was enlarged remarkably at the 0.5mm diameter of nozzle.

Ventilation of the marine engine room is very important for the health of the workers as well as the nomal operation of machines. To find proper ventilation conditions of this engine room, numerical simulation with standard k-.epsilon. model was carried out. In the present study, the marine engine room is considered as a closed space with a heat source and forced ventilation ducts. The injection angle of air supply is found to be important. Injection with downword angle depresses recirculation flow, causing a strong steam in the wider space of the room. Ventilation and removal of the released heat are promoted with this pattern. There is a possibility of local extreme heating at the upper surface of engine when supply and exhaust ports of air are in bilateral symmetry. The effect of the increase of exhaust port area on ventilation decreases as the number of supply port increases.

A high speed spindle system for machine tools can be used to reduce the machining time, to improve the machining accuracy, to perform the machining of light metals and hard materials, and to unite the cutting and grinding processes. In this study, a high speed spindle system is developed by applying the oil-air lubrication method, angular contact ball bearings, injection nozzles with dual orifices, cooling jacket and so on. And an air cooling experiment for evaluating the performance of the spindle system is carried out. Especially, in ofder to establish the air cooling conditions related to the development of a high speed spindle system, the effects of cooling air pressure, oil supply rate, air supply rate and rotational spindle speed are studied and discussed on the bearing temperature rise and frictional torque. Also the effects of cooling air pressure, rotational spindle speed and spindle system structure is investigated on the bearing temperature distribution. The experiment on the test model reveals the usefulness of the air cooling method.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the spine is the preferred diagnostic tool for pathologic conditions affecting the spine. However, in patients receiving epidural corticosteroid injection (ESI) for treatment of spinal diseases, there is a possibility of misreading of MR images because of air or fluid in the epidural space after the injection. Therefore, we defined the characteristics of abnormal changes in MRI findings following an ESI in patients with low back pain. Methods: We reviewed the medical records of 133 patients who underwent MRI of the lumbar spine within 7 days after ESI between 2006 and 2015. All patients were administered an ESI using a 22-gauge Tuohy needle at the lumbar spine through the interlaminar approach. The epidural space was identified by the loss of resistance technique with air. Results: The incidences of abnormal changes in MRI findings because of ESI were 54%, 31%, and 25% in patients who underwent MRI at approximately 24 h, and 2 and 3 days after ESI, respectively. Abnormal MRI findings included epidural air or fluid, needle tracks, and soft tissue changes. Epidural air, the most frequent abnormal finding (82%), was observed in 41% of patients who underwent MRI within 3 days after injection. Abnormal findings due to an ESI were not observed in MR images acquired 4 days after ESI or later. Conclusions: Pain physicians should consider the possibility of abnormal findings in MR images acquired after epidural injection using the interlaminar approach and the loss of resistance technique with air at the lumbar spine.

Landfill and lysimeter experiments were conducted to estimate the optimum air injection method for the degradation of waste in landfill and the pre-stabilization. Continuous injection with low pressure and quantity can be effective for pre-stabilization of old landfill due to the lower contents of volatile solids in landfill. Air injection and landfill gas (LFG)extraction showed that the SVE (Soil Vapor Extraction) effect by air ventilation was more significant than the biodegradation of organics. Theses results suggested that they could accelerate the biological stabilization of organic waste in landfills. It is also expected that they would reduce the problems including gas emission during the landfill mining, separation and/or transportation to such levels that might be discharged directly to the atmosphere or with minimal treatment, if required.
