  • This paper deals with a dynamic analysis and a position control for air-core type linear synchronous motor with Halbach array (HA) permanent magnet mover. The primary coils are designed to be air-cored, so the HA-PMLSM don't exist the detent force. The secondary HA array of PMs does not require any ferro-magnetic yoke and excites stronger magnetic flux density and closer to the sinusoids than a conventional PM array.

  • On this study, magnetic force versus input currents is analyzed by modeling taper plunger type proportional electromagnet of ISC valve using the permernce method. And, the reliabiliy of simulation is verified by comparing the experimental values with the calaulate magnetic force. From the result of this study, it is found that the taper angles at plunger and core, the length of air gap between plunger and yoke are the prumary factors in designing taper plunget type proportional electromagnet. Magnetic force is decreased as a whole according to increasing the air gap between pluger and yoke, and vise versa. But, the magnetic force is not proportional to current, when the air gap is very small. In case of decreasing the taper angle of pluger, the stroke range of plunger where magnetic force is proportional to current becomes farther from core.

  • The computer-aided performance simulation can reduce periods for development of products and cut down on the cost comparing with former trial-and-error procedures. This study has developed a simulation program for a vehicle thermal management system integrating an engine cooling system and an air conditioning system considering interactions and arrangement of air side heat exchangers such as power steering oil cooler, air-cooled transmission oil cooler, condenser, and radiator. The program may be also used for the system performance analysis according to the configuration of the engine coolant side heat exchangers such as water-cooled transmission oil cooler, EGR cooler, and heater core. Experiments utilizing an environmental wind tunnel has been conducted to assess the performance of the system according to the arrangement of air side heat exchangers. Some modification of the coolant loop layout can enhance the heat core performance up to 7% according to the results of the simulations.

  • To evaluate the effect of trapped air bubbles in horizontal drains on discharge capacity, unsaturated discharge capacity tests are carried out for four types of drains selected according to the size of section as well as the shape of core. Unsaturated discharge capacities with the elapse of time, the increase of confining pressures, and hydraulic gradients are examined and are compared with saturated discharge capacities. It is found that the unsaturated discharge capacities at a hydraulic gradient of 0.01 decreased by 17%~80% due to the remained air bubbles in the drains compared with the saturated discharge capacities. It is caused by the fact that the horizontal direction of water flow is not consistent with the direction of movement of floating air bubbles in case of horizontal drains. Especially, far the drain with filament shaped core, discharge capacities decreased significantly due to the difficulty in removing air bubbles.

  • Changes in core body temperature are closely related to initiation and maintenance of sleep, and are influenced by various factors such as air temperature, room temperature, clothing, human activities, and medications. These factors are closely related to sleep fragments, insomnia and other sleep disorders. Understanding the effect of the temperature related to human surroundings on the core body temperature and sleep, will be useful for understanding the physiology of sleep and to treat sleep disorders.

  • The heat transfer and thermal stress analysis was performed on the ceramic core of the matrix-type recuperator. The efficiency was calculated as 34% to 65%. Triple-pass arrangement provided higher preheated air temperatures, lower thermal stresses and the increase of pressure drops. Higher temperature gradients and maximum peak stresses appeared on the corners of the ceramic core. The effect of boundary conditions was significant and the use of spring-load sealing mechanism could release thermal stresses.

  • An integrated two-in-one transformer applicable to PSUs for a 120 W LED TV is proposed. This transformer comprises a PFC inductor and an LLC transformer placed and integrated on an E-I-E type magnetic core. Performance is evaluated by observing the coupling coefficients of the proposed two-in-one transformer under various air gap topologies. Among the topologies studied, an integrated transformer with centered air gap shows stable operational characteristics with a minimized mutual coupling (interference). Furthermore, applicability of the proposed integrated transformer to PSUs for a 120 W LED TV is studied from the viewpoint of integrating different magnetic components into one core, resulting to low weight, low cost, and high power density.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the typological characteristics of super high-rise housings in Hong Kong. The results are as follows; 1) The Plan types of the residential building in Hong Kong are mostly tower types and they show lots of curves on the external resident blocks so each resident families can face maximum open air. 2)Household arrangements or resident families form are shown as symmetrical and systematic type of structures that centers around the core. 3)The core types are mostly central core types and a portion of central core is planned to place void and alight garden for improving the lighting and ventilating problems. 4)If we review our room arrangements, they are arranged from entrance kitchen, livingroom bedroom to bathroom to the end. Livingrooms and dinning rooms are normally formed together. 5)If external resident blocks are facing the open air, one of the surface is on view axis, kitchen or bathroom are symmetrically located on the other side which faces the units for the purpose of ventilating.

  • One of the problems with the Boiling Water Reactor involves the flow and thermal mixings in the suppression water pool high pressure steam discharge into the pool in case of emergency core relief. Varioos heat sensitive devices and pumps for the reactor core cooling are installed in the middle of the suppression pool. Especially the pumps utilize pool water in order to cool the reactor core in emergency cases. In this case, the water temperature for the reactor cool ins should be below a certain temperature specified by the reactor design. In the present investigation, in other to determine the optimum locations of these pumping devices, numerical solutions have been obtained for the model to determine the f low mixing characteristics. Experimental investigations have also been carried out for the flow mixing and for the thermal mixing in the pool during the discharge. Considering that the discharge steam through the Quenching Device becomes hot water immediately in the water pool, the steam- equivalent hot water has been utilized. Examining these characteristices, it becomes possible to deform me the best locations for RCIC, LPCI , HPCI pumps in the suppression water pool for the emermency reactor core cooling.

  • An optimized iron core structure of stimulating coil are presented in order to control the induced electric field distribution using the Continuum Design Sensitivity Analysis (CDSA) combined with a commercially available generalized finite element code (OPERA). The results show that a Figure-Of-Eight (FOE) coil as well as a circular coil with the proposed iron core structure can increase induced electric field intensity by more than two times and make better field localization, compared with those of existing stimulation coil with a air core. After considering manufacturing constraints, a practical iron core structure based on the proposed optimized one is proposed and its performance is analyzed.
