  • In this study, We developed an evaluation system for the interim check of Integrated Rural Village Development Project and analyzed its applicability to an actual evaluation process through a pilot evaluation on regions selected. The evaluation system consists of documentary assessments(30%) and field inspections(70%). The documentary assessments are quantitative assessments on check-lists reports by self-evaluation prepared by local governments. The field inspections are qualitative assessments by evaluation teams. Sixteen evaluation indices were developed for documentary assessments and seven criteria were designed for field inspections. For a pilot evaluation, one region in each province excluding Jeju Do, eight regions was selected and the field inspections due to circumstances was proceeded in two regions. The results of documentary assessments indicate that most of regions are evaluated low in project performance attributable to the delay in security for sites. In the field inspections, it appears that most of the regions evaluated high at the documentary assessments got a high point from them. They also show that coordination of action plans, rather than quantitative achievements, is a base determining success of the projects.

  • Chemical application, one of the most important crop management processes happened to cause spray drift, that would threaten farmers in field as well as dwellers in rural region. Spray drift was affected by micro-meteorological parameters. In Korea, a boom sprayer was introduced but good effects of a boom sprayer was not evaluated. A study to evaluate short distance drift characteristics of a boom sprayer in paddy fields has been undergoing and determining wind characteristics in paddy field was the main purpose of this paper. Micro-meteorological information has been pre-requisite information for evaluating drift in both long and short distances or in both theoretical and experimental ways. Wind velocity, Reynolds stresses, turbulence intensity, skewness, kurtosis etc. were evaluated with height from the ground using a 2-dimensional probe and a hot wire anemometer system.

  • This study was conducted to determine the weed control effect of false seedbed in organic rice paddy field. False seedbed is one of the preventative weed control method, especially effective in upland vegetable field. False seedbed frequency and methods were examined by varying the processing time in greenhouse and field condition in 2012 and 2013. In greenhouse experiment, shallow recultivation and harrow surface soil was effective to control weed up to 70%. Optimal processing time of false seedbed was when the weed was two or three leaf stages. Under field condition, one-time treatment of false seedbed was 61% of weed suppression rate and two-times of false seedbed treatment was 79% of weed suppression rate. Monochoria vaginalis was still troublesome weed after false seedbed treatment, but the occurrence of Echinochloa oryzoides was decreased after false seedbed treament. Results indicated that false seedbed treatment was very effective to lower early weed occurrence in rice paddy field especially Echinochloa spp. Weed control efficiency of shallow recultivation by weeder hollow and rotary tillage by tractor were 68%, 13% respectively.

  • Residual of heavy metals originated from abandoned metal mines in agricultural field can cause adverse effect on ecosystem and eventually on human health. For this reason, remediation of heavy metal contaminated agriculture field is a critical issue. In this study, five different amendments, agriculture lime, dolomite, steel slag, zeolite, and compost, were evaluated for stabilization efficiency of heavy metals in agricultural field. Applied mixing ratio of amendments was varied (2% or 6%) depending on properties of amendments. Result showed that soil pH was increased compared to control (6.1-6.7) after mixing with amendments and ordered as dolomite (7.2~8.3) > steel slag (6.7~8.1) > agriculture lime (6.6~7.4) > zeolite (6.2~6.9) > compost (6.1~7.1). Among other amendments, agriculture lime, steel slag, and dolomite showed the highest stabilization efficiency of heavy metals in soil. For Cd, stabilization efficiency was 49~72%, 51~83%, and 0~36% for agriculture lime, steel slag, and dolomite respectively. In case of Pb, 43~64, 37~73%, and 51~73% of stabilization efficiency was observed for agriculture lime, steel slag, and dolomite respectively. However, minimal effect of heavy metal stabilization was observed for zeolite and compost. Based on result of this study, amendments that can increase the soil pH were the most efficient to stabilize heavy metal residuals and can be adapted for remediation purpose in agricultural field.

  • The field experiment was conducted in vegetable area, Institute of Horticultural Sciences in University of Agriculture, Faisalabad in order to recognize morphological and fruit growth pattern and yield of Tinda (Praecitrullus fistulosus) gourd germplasm lines. Sixteen germplasm lines in which one line is used as check are included were sown and grown on flat beds in field. The field experiment was arranged as randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications. Data on days to maturity, fruit per vine, fruit weight in grams, fruit diameter and total yield obtained were recorded. The fruit texture is marked as phenotype parameter. All parameters were collected and then analyzed statistically. All lines and replications showed different results among each other according to parameter. The maximum DTM (days to maturity), F/P (fruit per plant), FW (fruit weight), FD (fruit diameter) and Yield were recorded was $L_0$ (68.66), $L_3$ (1.66), $L_{10}$ (248.33), $L_{13}$ (8.50) and $L_0$ (599.33) and the minimum were recorded was $L_1$ (56), $L_{11}$ (0.33), $L_0$ (198), $L_9$ (7) and $L_4$ (421) grams respectively. All lines showed smooth texture of fruits with no hairs when mature at harvesting stage.

  • To understand the effect of aerosols on the growth and physiological conditions of trees in forests, it is important to know the state of aerosols that are deposited on the surface of the leaves or needles. In this study, we developed methods of visualization of submicron-sized aerosols that were artificially deposited from the gas-phase or liquid phase onto tree leaves or needles in trees. Firstly, we used field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) to observe black carbon (BC) particles that were artificially sprayed onto the leaves or needles. The distribution of BC particles deposited on the leaves and needles were distinguished based on the size and morphological features of the particles. The distribution and agglomerates size of BC particles differed between two spraying methods of BC particles employed. Secondly, we tried to visualize gold (Au) particles that were artificially sprayed onto the leaves using energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX) coupled to FE-SEM. We detected the Au particles based on the characteristic X-ray spectrum, which was secondarily generated from the Au particles. In contrast to the case of BC particles, the Au particles did not form agglomerates and were uniformly distributed on the leaf surfaces. The present results show that our methods provide useful information of adsorption and/or behavior of fine particles at the submicron level on the surface of the leaves.

  • This study was carried out to make the most of them as the fundamental data for reasonable weed control when population of weeds was observed in the alternated fields of lowland and upland. The annual and the perennial paddy weeds in the continuous paddy rice field remarkably decreased when compared to that in the alternated field of paddy rice and soybean. The longer was the duration of upland field condition, the less was the population of lowland weeds and the more was the population of upland weeds. Biennial weeds in the contiuous paddy rice field were less than that in the rotated field of paddy rice and soybean, and this tendency was clear in Alopecurus aequalis Sobol. In the continuous cropping of paddy rice, population of biennial weeds in the culverted field was higher than that in the unculverted one, but in the continuous cropping of soybean this tendency was vice versa.

  • For waxy corn hybrid development, 23 waxy corn hybrids were planted and surveyed in both pericarp thickness and sugar content. Pericarp thickness showed average 50 to $49{\mu}m$ in field and greenhouse. Results like these advanced than previous other hybrids. Also, sugar content in developed waxy corn evaluated as 13.6 to 15.3 brix. Here, we concluded that edible quality of waxy corn depended on combing of two factors. Especially, CNU11H8 hybrid at field and CNU11H-38 at greenhouse were good in both factors. Accordingly, these hybrids will be planted in next time for productivity and area adaptation.
