  • Digital topographical maps used for GIS DB are mainly produced by the traditional way of analogue aerial photogrammetry. Therefore, analogue photos are only available for digital mapping after preprocessing such as film developing, printing and scanning. However, digital aerial camera is able to get digital image directly without preprocessing and thus the performance and efficiency of photogrammetry are extremely increased. This study aims to investigate geometric stability of digital aerial frame camera DMC (Digital Modular Camera). In order to verify the geometric stability of digital aerial camera DMC, some different block conditions with and without cross strips, GPS/INS data and variation of GCPs are introduced in the block adjustment. The accuracy results of every block condition were compared each other by computation of residuals of exterior orientation (EO) parameters. Results of study shows that the geometric stability of the block adjustment with cross strips is increased about 30% against without cross strips. The accuracy of EO parameters of block adjustment with cross strips is also increased about 2cm for X-coordinate, 3cm for Y-coordinate, 3cm for Z-coordinate, and 6" for omega, 4" for phi and 3" for kappa.

  • Timber inventory is a good starting point for developing strategies to effectively manage the timberland. In the sale of timberland, pricing is mostly based on this inventory. For a small timberland, inventory by conventional ground survey could be possible. In the case of large and nationwide business transactions, swift and inexpensive inventory is worth to be considered as the conventional methods require more experienced man power, money and time. In the present study, it was aimed to identify the chronicle of timberland such as changes that has occurred owing to silvicultural activities and by other means using the historical aerial photography and satellite data. Historical aerial photos from National Aerial Photography Program (NAPP), National High Altitude Photography (NHAP), Survey Photography and Landsat satellite data were used. Orthophotos were constructed using the DOQQ and DEM from USGS. Simple photo interpretation technique was employed to classify the orthophoto and satellite data. The plantation area was classified into softwood, mixed and hardwood. The timber age and the corresponding acreage details and the changes were also estimated. The result of this study could be more useful to the timberland buyers to better understand the chronicle of timberland of their interest prior to transactions.

  • Researchers seeking geological and environmental information, depend on remote sensing and aerial photographic datum from various commercial satellites and aircraft. However, adverse weather conditions as well as equipment expense limit the ability to collect data anywhere and anytime. To allow for better flexibility in geological and environmental data collection, we have developed a compact, multi-spectral automatic Aerial Photographic system (PKNU2). This system's Multi-spectral camera can record visible (RGB) and infrared (NIR) band (3032*2008 Pixels) images Visible and infrared band images were obtained from each camera respectively and produced color-infrared composite images to be analyzed for the purpose of the environmental monitoring. However this did not provide quality data. Furthermore, it has the disadvantage of having the stereoscopic overlap area being 60% unsatisfied due to the 12 seconds of storage time of each data The PKNU2 system in contrast, photographed photos of great capacity Thus, with such results, we have been proceeding to develop the advanced PKNU2 (PKNU3) system that consists of a color-infrared spectral camera that can photograph in the visible and near-infrared bands simultaneously using a single sensor, a thermal infrared camera, two 40G computers to store images, and an MPEG board that can compress and transfer data to the computer in real time as well as be able to be mounted onto a helicopter platform.

  • This thesis is a study on multiple close range photogrammetry, and the purpose of this study is to develop the most accurate adjustment method of three dimensional object coordinates. This was achieved by comparing the standard errors of actual data to the computed values from 2 photos and multiple photos. The conventional methods for multiple photos have been analyzed by using geometric model formation. But in this study, the equation of collinearity condition which has been applied to aerial photogrammetry was derived to be a basic principle of close range photogrammetry, and the algorithm for analyzing multiple photos was developed using simultaneous bundle adjustment. The method used in this study, showed more homogeneous accuracy in coordinate and more consistent variance of error than those of conventional methods. It was found that the cases using 3, 4, and 5 photos were more accurate than using 2 photos; the accuracies were improved to 15%, 35%, and 50%, for each case. Thus this study is expected to be useful in measuring the geometry of historic monuments and other structures requiring high accuracy. Also the combined case of multiple photos is considered to be effective for the precise analysis of the objects which are difficult to measure for obstacles.

  • Red sorrel (Rumex acetosella L.), as one of exotic weeds in Korea, was dominated in grassland and reduced the quality of forage. Improving current pasture productivity by precision management requires practical tools to collect site-specific pasture weed data. Recent development in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology has offered cost effective and real time applications for site-specific data collection. To map red sorrel on a hill pasture, we tested the potential use of an UAV system with digital cameras (visible and near-infrared (NIR) camera). Field measurements were conducted on grazing hill pasture at Hanwoo Improvement Office, Seosan City, Chungcheongnam-do Province, Korea on May 17, 2014. Plant samples were obtained at 20 sites. An UAV system was used to obtain aerial photos from a height of approximately 50 m (approximately 30 cm spatial resolution). Normalized digital number values of Red, Green, Blue, and NIR channels were extracted from aerial photos. Multiple linear regression analysis results showed that the correlation coefficient between Rumex content and 4 bands of UAV image was 0.96 with root mean square error of 9.3. Therefore, UAV monitoring system can be a quick and cost effective tool to obtain spatial distribution of red sorrel data for precision management of hilly grazing pasture.

  • The coastal erosion and the look of a heap which are mainly occurred in the district along the coast are found for various forms such as the estuary closing, the estuary sand bar the development of the coast sand bar, and the modification of coastline. Recently, due to the coastal development, these transformations have been intensified. The change of coast, which has been made slow progress is required long-term study on a searching examination of the root cause and a suggestion of a counter measure. In this research, ortho aerial photos were produced to analyze volumes of topographical alternations that have been progressed fer the long run, by 10s cycle from 1940s through 1990s, to compute accurate volumes of coastline variation, through a datum point and G.C.P (Ground Control Point). Also in this study, without respect to water level, the coastline variation was analyzed by using comparatively analyzed a Idlest land map, a cadastral map. And to analyze topographical variation volumes, the tidal station's materials was used under consideration f3r tide. Finally, topographical variation volumes are comparatively analyzed through surveying and sounding and a point of fine of aviation photographing was calculated and revised. After this research, by using ortho aerial photos, We can understand efficiency of these in computing volumes of variations of coastline by analyzing quantitatively erosion and look of a heap. Besides, in the future, these will be used for information gathering of the coastline integration control system.

  • This study was conducted for preliminary survey and management support for Pine Wood Nematode (PWN) suppression. We took areal photographs of 6 areas for a total of 2,284 ha during 2 weeks period from 15/02/2016, and produced 6 ortho-images with a high resolution of 12 cm GSD (Ground Sample Distance). Initially we classified 423 trees suspected for PWN infection based on the ortho-images. However, low accuracy was observed due to the problems of seasonal characteristics of aerial photographing and variation of forest stands. Therefore, we narrowed down 231 trees out of the 423 trees based on the initial classification, snap photos, and flight information; produced thematic maps; conducted field survey using GNSS; and detected 23 trees for PWN infection that was confirmed by ground sampling and laboratory analysis. The infected trees consisted of 14 broad-leaf trees, 5 pine trees (2 Pinus rigida), and 4 other conifers, showing PWN infection occurred regardless of tree species. It took 6 days for 2.3 men from to start taking areal photos using UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) to finish detecting PNW (Pine Wood Nematode) infected tress for over 2,200 ha, indicating relatively high efficacy.

  • To use surveying data obtained from different sensors and different techniques, it is a pre-requite step that register them in a common coordinate system. For this purpose, we developed methodologies to register airborne photos, ALS (Airborne Laser Scanning) data and digital maps. To achieve this, conjugate features from these data should be extracted in advance. In this study, linear features are chosen as conjugate features. Based on such a selection strategy, a simple and robust algorithm is proposed for extracting such features from ALS data. Then, to register them, observation equations are established from similarity measurements of the extracted features and the results was evaluated statistically. The results clearly demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are appropriate to register these data.
