It is known that previous models are unsatisfactory in predicting adverse pressure gradient turbulent flows. In the present paper, a revised low Reynolds number $k-{\varepsilon}$ model is proposed. In this model, a newly developed term is added lo the dissipation rate equation. In order to reflect appropriate effects for an adverse pressure gradient. The added tenn is derived by considering the distribution of mean velocity and turbulent properties in the turbulent flow with, adverse pressure gradient. The new $k-{\varepsilon}$ model was applied to calculations of flat plate flow with adverse pressure gradient, conical diffuser flow and backward facing step flow. It was found that the three numerical results showed better agreement than other models compared with DNS results and experimental ones.

Recently, numerous modifications of low Reynolds number $k-{\epsilon}$ model have boon carried out with the aid of DNS data. However, the previous models made in this way are too intricate to be used practically. To overcome this shortcoming, a new low Reynolds number $k-{\epsilon}$ model has boon developed by considering the distribution of turbulent properties near the wall. This study proposes the revised a turbulence model for prediction of turbulent flow with adverse pressure gradient and separation. Nondimensional distance $y^+$ in damping functions is changed to $y^*$ and some terms modeled for one dimensional flow in $\epsilon$ equations are expanded into two or three dimensional form. Predicted results by the revised model show an acceptable agreement with DNS data and experimental results. However, for a turbulent flow with severe adverse pressure gradient, an additive term reflecting an adverse pressure gradient effect will have to be considered.

The effects of various tripping structures on turbulent boundary layer subjected to adverse pressure gradient were examined. The profiles are compared to zero pressure gradient and adverse pressure gradient. The increases of tripping structures of height, k are affects almost flow parameter included velocity fluctuation, skin friction coefficient and turbulent boundary thickness.

The complicated helical flow formed in the regenerative turbomachines is usually decomposed into a peripheral component and a circulatory component. On the basis of the momentum exchange theory, the circulatory flow plays a critical role of imparting angular momentum to the peripheral flow. Therefore, the accuracy of performance prediction is dominated by the circulatory flow modeling. Until now the circulatory flow has been accounted of a standstill flow normal to the peripheral flow. However, the circulatory path from the impeller exit to the re-entrance inlet is exposed to the adverse pressure gradient, so it would be more realistic to describe that the circulatory flow is formed on the skewed plane not perpendicular to the peripheral flow. Present study suggests new circulatory flow loss model including the effect of adverse pressure gradient and modifies the effective circulatory flow rate and circulatory pivot which were previously published.

Turbulent flows around tube banks and in the diffuser were studied using a non-orthogonal boundary fitted coordinate system and the modified K-.epsilon. turbulence model. In these cases, many problems emerge which stem from the geometrical complexity of the flow domain and the physical complexity of turbulent flow itself. To treat the complex geometry, governing equations were reformulated in a non-orthogonal coordinate system with Cartesian velocity components and discretised by the finite volume method with a non-staggered variable arrangement. The modified K-.epsilon. model of Hanjalic and Launer was applied to solve above two cases under the condition of strong and mild pressure gradient. The results using the modified K-.epsilon. model results in both test cases.

The unsteady flow structure and the related noise generation, which are caused by the separation of a two-dimensional, incompressible, laminar boundary-layer on the flat plate under the influence of local adverse pressure gradient, are numerically examined. The characteristic lines of the wall pressure are examined to understand the unsteady behavior of vortex shedding near the reattachment point of the separation bubble. Also, the generation and propagation of the vortex-induced noise in the separated boundary-layer are calculated by the method of computational aero-acoustics (CAA), and the effects of Reynolds number, Mach number and the strength of the adverse pressure gradient on the unsteady flow and noise characteristics are examined.

Effects of inflow Reynolds number (Re), turbulence intensity (I) and pressure gradient on the transition flow over a blade section were studied using the ${\gamma}-Re{\theta}$ transition model (STAR-CCM+). Results show that the $Re_T$ (transition Re) at the transition location ($P_T$) varies strongly with Re, I and the magnitude of pressure gradient. The $Re_T$ increases significantly with the increase of the magnitude of favorable pressure gradient. It demonstrates that the $Re_T$ on different blade sections of a rotating propeller are different. More importantly, when there is strong adverse pressure gradient, the $P_T$ is always close to the minimum pressure point. Based on these conclusions, the $P_T$ on model propeller blade surface can be estimated. Numerical investigations of pressure distribution and transition flow on a propeller blade section prove these findings. Last, a simple method was proposed to estimate the $P_T$ only based on the propeller geometry and the advance coefficient.

The present paper describes numerical predictions for the film cooling effectiveness from a row of hole at various injection ratios and injection alngles.Numerical calculations were performed to investigate film cooling effectiveness and the characteristics of flow and temperature distributions in the region near the downstream of injection hole including the region of adverse pressure gradient. The elliptic 3-dimensional governing equations with variable thermal properties were solved by SIMPLE algorithm. The results showed that the presence of adverse pressure gradient in the region near the downstream of injection hole induces large temperature gradient. At injection angle of $35^{\circ}$ the average film cooling effectiveness was increased as increased of injection ratio up to 1.0. At injection angle of $90^{\circ}$ however, the average film cooling effectiveness was decreased from injection ratio larger than 0.4.

A study is analyzed on the adverse pressure gradient and the transient regime of supersonic diffuser with Computational Fluid Dynamic. The flow field of supersonic diffuser is calculated using Axisymmetric two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equation with $k-{\epsilon}$ turbulence model. The transient simulation is compared in terms of mach number and static temperature of vacuum chamber according to pressure variation of rocket engine combustion chamber. Combustion gas flow into the vacuum chamber during operation of the supersonic diffuser. According to this phenomenon, the pressure and the temperature rise in the vacuum chamber were observed. Thus, the protection system will be necessary to prevent the pressure and temperature rise in the transition process during operation of the subsonic diffuser.

Two versions of anisotropic k-ε turbulence model are incorporated in the modified k-ε model of Sohn et al. to avoid the need for the experimental normal stress value in the model and applied to convergent and divergent flows with strong and adverse pressure gradients in the plane of symmetry of a body of revolution. The models are the nonlinear k-ε model of Speziale and the anisotropic model of Nisizima & Yoshizawa. All of the models yield satisfactory results for relatively complex flow on a plane-of-symmetry boundary layer. The results of the models are compared with those results of experimental normal stress value.
