Performance Study of Defected Ground Structure Patch Antenna with Etched psi (ψ) Shaped Stubs

  • In this article, a novel design of patch antenna with wide band characteristics is presented. The proposed antenna is having electrical dimensions of $0.14{\lambda}{\times}0.11{\lambda}$ (at lower initial frequency) and footprints of $150mm^2$. Structural parameters optimization shows 3.1-23.5 GHz frequency range for a (reflection coefficient) $S_{11}{\leq}-10dB$ and simulated gain 6.8 dB is obtained. An equivalent circuit model is proposed to get an insight view of antenna. Advanced Systems Design (ADS) simulation results are obtain which confirm the validity of proposed model. Degenerated foster canonical form has been used to explain the reactance and capacitive behavior idea of simulated proposed antenna's input impedance later on an equivalent circuit model and smith chart is also suggested. HFSS and CST have been used to analyze antenna behavior. The proposed antenna can be further used for microwave image detection applications.

Design and fabrication on 7-11 GHz, Broadband MPM (7-11 GHz, 광대역 MPM 설계 및 제작)

  • In this paper, a broadband Microwave Power Module(MPM) operating at 7 - 11 GHz is designed and fabricated. The MPM consists of a SSA (Solid State Amplifier) and a conventional TWT (traveling Wave Tube). This combined module takes advantage of a low noise and high gain of SSA. The computer modeling and simulation of the SSA are designed by the use of the ADS (Advanced Design System) software. The SSA is designed by configurating the CSSDA (Cascaded Single Stage Distributed Amplifier). The broadband MPM is measured to be noise figure 8.3 - 10.02 dB at 7 - 11 GHz bandwidth, output power of 38.12 dBm at 9 GHz.

Factors Influencing Attitude toward Advance Directives of Older Cancer Patients (노인 암 환자의 사전의사결정에 대한 태도와 관련요인)

  • Purpose: The aims of this study were to identify the reported attitudes of older patients with cancer toward advance directives (ADs) and the factors associated with their attitudes toward ADs. Methods: The design was a cross-sectional survey. The age mean of the 130 participants were 70.8, and 66.2% of the participants were male. The data were collected at one university hospital in Seoul, South Korea during the period from October $1^{st}$ to December $5^{th}$ in 2013. The data collecting instruments were the Advance Directives Attitude Survey (ADAS) and questionnaires including socio-demographic and disease-related characteristics, family function. Results: 30.0% of the participants were aware of ADs, only 9% of them had been informed by healthcare providers. Most participants (93.1%) intended to complete ADs. The mean score of ADAS was 48.29. The stepwise linear regression analysis indicated that family function, perceived health status, period of education, and age accounted for a significant percentage (52.0%, p<.001) of the variance in participants' ADAS. The variable with the greatest effect was family function. Conclusion: The findings suggest that family function and attitude of older cancer patients need to be considered for adapting ADs to Korean health care systems. Healthcare providers should include family members in advanced care planning discussions.

  • According to CNS/ATM, a new concept of navigation system, ADS-B systems are being built in the field of surveillance. FIS-B is one of the key elements of ADS-B, and also provides various flight informations, weather informations to the aircraft. In this paper, we reviewed the FIS-B standard and analyzed performance requirements. And then we designed and implemented FIS-B. In this simulation, we showed performance of FIS-B. And this research is very useful to the future work.

  • In this paper, we analyze a physical layer of W-CDMA .system and design a transmitter and receiver by using ADS (Advanced Design System). Also, we simulated a link level performance with different channel estimation algorithm in Jakes fading channel environment. For the channel estimator, we used the WMSA(Weighted Multi-Slot Averaging) algorithm, EGE(Equal Gain Estimation) algorithm and SSE(Symbol-to-Symbol Estimation) algorithm. This study will be useful in the analysis and design of W-CDMA system.

  • This paper introduces a 5GHz FIR filter low noise amplifier (LNA) based on a distributed amplifier and analyzes the its characteristics. The proposed FIR filter-LNA has the MA(moving average) filter characteristic which improves the frequency selectivity of the amplifier. Proto-type circuits with FR4 and ${\varepsilon}_r=10.2$ PCB have been realized and simulated using ADS (Advanced Design System). The simulation results verified that the designed LNA had a gain of about 10dB and the frequency characteristic of the MA FIR filter. It is expected that the proposed FIR filter LNA can be applicable to the various applications using an amplifier and a filter in RF systems.

  • This papart proposes single pole double throw (SPDT) switch with six-stage radial stub resonators in the 3.6~4.0 GHz band. The switch was simulated using ADS (Advanced Design Software), a design tool for the wireless communication circuits, and evaluated on a pcb substrate. The measurement results of the radial SPDT switch showed an average 90 dB isolation, and 1.5 dB insertion loss. This isolation characteristic was 20 dB superior to higher than those laboratory or commercial products reported thus far. The proposed SPDT switch is applicable to multi-band RF front-end systems, such as WiMAX, LTE/5G, Wi-Fi, and HyperLAN.

  • The substrate resistance is modeled to estimate the performance degradation of analog circuits by substrate noise in a $0.35{\mu}m$ twin-well non-epitaxial CMOS process. The substrate resistance model equations are applied to the P+ guard-ring isolation structure and a good match was achieved between measurements and models. The substrate resistance is divided into four types and a semi-empirical model equation is obtained for each type of substrate resistance. The rms(root-mean-square) error of the substrate resistance model is below 10% compared with the measured resistance. To apply this substrate resistance model to the P+ guard ring structure, ADS(Advanced Design System) circuit simulation results are compared with the measurement results using Network Analyzer, and relatively good agreements are obtained between measurements and simulations.

  • Automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) is the core technology of communication, navigation and surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM), automatically broadcasts its own position information using GNSS and has an advantage of lower geological constraints and faster update speed compared with legacy radar systems. EUROCONTROL defined all purpose structured eurocontrol surveillance information exchange (ASTERIX) CAT.021. ASTERIX CAT.021 is modified several times, but it has compatibility issues with previous version of it. In this paper, we have designed an efficient message processing module regardless of the version of ASTERIX CAT.021. This implemented module generates patterns to collect messages received from the network, after that, received messages are processed in the routine that is defined in accordance with the patterns.

  • This paper has been designed the TDMG(Time Delay Multiple Gaussian) pulse generator for UWB systems and analyzed the characteristics of UWB impulse. Composite two equal Gaussian pulses in a difference time lag, and then investigated TDMG pulse and modeled mathematically. Designed the TDMG pulse generator by ADS(Advanced Design System) to embody by using actual element with such mathematical model. As well as, this paper finally proved an excellence of the TDMG pulse generator by performing analysis through simulation.
