Recently, a great attention has been paid to the ice thermal storage system for the purpose of energy saving and reduction in peak electrical demand. In the present study, it has been investigated the freezing behavior of several kinds of water solutions with nonionic surfactant. In order to prevent ice blockage in a cooled pipe, the amount and wall adhesion behavior of ice of the test fluids were observed experimentally under different concentration of water solution with surfactant, temperature of cooled wall, and the shear velocity of test fluids. The results showed that the size of ice crystal became smaller at higher shear velocity at wall. And the lowest limit of wall adhesion of ice in water solution with surfactant was found at 230 W/$m^2$ of heat flux.

It has been found that existing detects at the junction between waterproofing layer as well as the material and the surfaces of the construction when waterproofing sheet is employed in the currently used unground structures waterproofing technology, causing a series of problems such as the high cost to the maintenance for leakage and the durability. The purpose of this study is about reducing the waterpoofing defects in underground structures. consequently, the homogeneous sheet which has some quality such as the unvulcanizate, high-adhesion and high-elastic was examined on physical properties. As a test result, it was confirmed to have satisfied performance about the ks. However, it must be continued to study through mock-up test for confirming of site application.

Due to naturally formed copper oxides, the adhesion strength between copper and epoxy resin is often very poor. To improve the adhesion strength between copper and epoxy resin, Cu-based leadframe sheets were oxidized in a brown-oxide forming solution. Then the effect of brown-oxide formation on the adhesion strength of leadframe to epoxy molding compound (EMC) was studied using pull-out specimens. After the pull-out test, fracture surfaces were analyzed using SEM, AES and EDS to determine failure path. The results showed that the failure path lay over inside the CuO and inside the EMC irrespective of the pull strength.
The objective of this study was to examine the effect of oxidation inhibitor contents on the work of adhesion, fracture toughness, and impact strength of the unidirectional carbon-carbon composites (C/C composites). The molybdenum disilicide ($MoSi_2$) used as an oxidation inhibitor was impregnated with phenolic resins to improve the anti-oxidation properties of the composites in different concentrations of 4, 12 and 20 wt%. Based on Wilhelmy equation, the work of adhesion of C/C composites was calculated by contact angle methods. Fracture toughness and impact strength were pressured by three-point bending test for the critical intensity factor ($K_IC$) and Izod test method, respectively. As a result, the composites made with $MoSi_2$ resulted in an increasing of both fracture toughness and impact strength. Especially, the composites made with 12 wt% $MoSi_2$ content showed the highest value of London dispersive component, $W_A\;^L$, in work of adhesion, resulting from improving the interfacial adhesion force among fibers, filler, and matrix in this system.

Al, Ti, Ta, and Cr thin films were deposited on a polyimide substrate using DC magnetron sputter to study the adhesion characteristics of metal films on polyimide substrates, while RF bias of 0 - 400 W was applied to the substrate during DC sputtering. The adhesion strength was evaluated using a 90-degree peel test. The peel tests showed that the adhesion strength was enhanced by applying the RF bias to the substrate in all specimens. Scanning electron microscopy and Auger depth profile of the fractured surfaces indicate that the polyimide underwent cohesive failure during peeling and heavy deformation was also observed in the metal films peeled from the polyimide substrate when the RF bias applied during the deposition. Cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy revealed that the metal/polyimide interface was not clear and complicated. This complicated interface, likely formed due to the RF bias applied to the substrate, was attributed to the adhesion enhancement observed during the bias sputtering.
The brazing adhesion properties of Ag coated W-Ag electric contact on the Cu substrate have been investigated in therms of microstructure, phase equilibrium and adhesion strength. Precoating of Ag layer ($3{\mu}m$ in thickness) on the $W-40\%Ag$ contact material was done by electro-plating method. Subsequently the brazing treatment was conducted by inserting BCuP-5 filler metal (Ag-Cu-P alloy) layer between Ag coated W-Ag and Cu substrate and annealing at $710^{\circ}C$ in $H_2$ atmosphere. The optimum brazing temperature of $710^{\circ}C$ was semi-empirically calculated on the basis of the Cu atomic diffusion profile in Ag layer of commercial electric contact produced by the same brazing process. As a mechanical test of the electric contact after brazing treatment the adhesion strength between the electric contact and Cu substrate was measured using Instron. The microstructure and phase equilibrium study revealed that the sound interlayer structure was formed by relatively low brazing treatment at $710^{\circ}C$. Thin Ag electro-plated layer precoated on the electric contact ($3{\mu}m$ in thickness) is thought to be enough for high adhesion strength arid sound microstructure in interface layer.
Plasma treatment and corona treatment have been used for surface modification of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) film by activating its surface with the -OH group. Adhesion promoter or coupling agent was also used to improve adhesion of PDMS film with various materials. However, obtained hydrophilicity onto the surface of PDMS films with those processes was transient and vulnerable. In this study, a new alkoxysilane-functionalized acrylic polymer precursor was first synthesized by copolymerization process, and then was reacted with HO-terminated PDMS through condensation reaction to prepare a new surface modifier for PDMS film. The structure and molecular weight of the prepared surface modifier were confirmed by 1H-NMR and GPC measurement. Surface properties of surface modifier-coated PDMS films were also investigated by using XPS, ATR and WCA analysis. The adhesion between the PDMS film and the surface modifier was tested using cross-cut test.
In this study, the new adhesion system was studied to improve the adhesion strength between polyester cord and rubber matrix. In order to enhance the adhesion strength through polyester cord's surface treatment, the NaOH solution was used. The NaOH solution concentrations of 0.03, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 1 and 5 wt.% were used in surface modifying the polyester cord. The optimum condition showing the maximum adhesion strength of polyester cord with SBR compound containing bonding agent was at NaOH concentration of 0.05 wt.% with treatment time of 10 minutes. When the NaOH solution concentration was above 1 wt.%, the polyester cord due to the excess surface modification was damaged, and resulted in breakage during the adhesion test. Also, the adhesion strength between polyester and SBR could be improved by coating the polyester cord with triallylcyanurate(TC) adhesive. The drying condition of polyester cord coated with TC attributed to the adhesion strength. The maximum adhesion strength was obtained by using the polyester cord dried at $220^{\circ}C$ rather than dried at room temperature.
Synthetic rubber based pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) usually containing SIS or SBS block copolymer, tackifier, plasticizer, and other additives are now widely used on various applications. As these PSAs are physically crosslinked and can be applied without the use of solvent, they are thermally processable and environmentally friendly. However these PSAs cannot be used in high temperature applications and in applications where solvent and chemical resistance properties are required. We developed the PSA adding UV curable system, such as thiol-ene system, to increase adhesion properties at elevated temperature. The adhesion properties such as probe tack, peel strength, shear adhesion failure temperature (SAFT) were evaluated. The probe tack test was conducted with varying probe materials and coating thickness of PSAs. Using the contact angle, the surface property of the cured PSAs was also observed.

Adhesion property of epoxy adhesive was evaluated with different surface roughness of glass fiber reinforced composite (GFRC) and optimized condition of surface roughness was confirmed. Different sizes of alumina (Al2O3) particles were blasted to GFRC to control surface roughness of GFRC using sand blasting method. The surface roughness was measured and quantified via surface roughness tester. Contact angle was measured using four types of different solvents. Surface energies and work of adhesion between epoxy adhesive and GFRCs were calculated with different surface roughness of GFRC. Adhesion property between epoxy adhesive and GFRCs was evaluated using single lap shear test and adhesion property increased with surface roughness of GFRC. The fracture surface of GFRCs was observed to evaluate adhesion property. Finally, the optimized roughness condition of GFRCs was confirmed.
