  • An adaptive estimation system which operates propoerly in the environments corrupted by additive impulse noise in addition to the white Gaussian noise has been proposed. A feed forward loop is inserted into the adaptive estimator proposed by R. L. Moose for a system with an unknown measurement bias by which the improved adaptive estimator is processed successfully without the sum of the time varying weights being zero even when the measurement system is added impulue noise. Successfully processed adaptive estimator has been obtained under the large impulse noise in addition to randomly varying unknown biases condition by giving sufficient large value to the elements of discrete vector on the computer simulation.

  • Currently, image processing is used in various fields including military, medical and industrial fields. Noise added to images undermine the quality of images. As such, the removal of noise is an essential step to process images such as through recognition of images, detection of edge and segmentation of images. Studies on removing noise from images are actively being undertaken. One of the leading noises that are added to images is the AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise). This paper suggests an algorithm that synthesizes a filter that uses edge detection and standard deviation to ease AWGN.

  • Currently, image processing has been widely utilized and the noise may be occurred in the processes of image data transmission, processing, and storage. The studies have been actively conducted to eliminate the added noise in the image. The types of noise in the image are various depending on the causes and the forms, and additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) is the representative one. The algorithm to apply and process the weighted value was suggested by the directions of the pixel in the local mask using edge detection to relieve the added AWGN in the image in this article.

  • This paper presents a denoising algorithm that can suppress additive noise components while preserving signal components in the wavelet domain. The algorithm uses the local statistics of wavelet coefficients to attenuate noise components adaptively. Then threshohding operation is followed to reject the residuary noise components in the wavelet coefficients. Simulations are carried out over 1-D signals corrupted by Gaussian noise and the experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, we generalize the method to calculate the outage probability in the presence of multiple rayleigh faded cochannel interferences and additive white Gaussian noise. Our result is a computational formula that can be applied with or without Gaussian noise in Rayleigh faded cochannel interferences. Without Gaussian noise, the situation degenerates to usual case of the cochannel interferences. The result can be appiled also in the presence of Gaussian noise with or without cochannel interferences.

  • Conventional noise reduction filtering schemes realize limited improvements of the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in the low-level noisy images. The flatness degree and the edge information are effectively used to estimate the noise volume. We propose a noise estimator for reducing noise in the AWGN (additive white gaussian noise) corrupted images using three intermediate image maps (FGM(flatness gray map), FIM(flatness index map), NEM(noise estimate map)). The proposed noise estimator is fed into the conventional noise reduction filters as a pre-processor. The performance of noise reduction is tested in the various AWGN corrupted images.

  • Recently, demand for digital image processing devices increases rapidly, more clear images have been required. But, in the process of digital image acquisition, processing and transmission, image degradation occurs due to various external reasons and researches about noise reduction are on the rise. Therefore, this study suggested the algorithm to process AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise) by separately processing as three levels according to the pixel distribution in the mask in order to remove AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise) which is added in the image. Regarding the processed results by applying Barbara images which were damaged by AWGN(σ = 15), suggested algorithm showed the improvement by 2.87[dB], 2.95[dB], 2.88[dB], 1.52[dB], 1.49[dB], 1.58[dB] and 1.25[dB] respectively compared with the existing MF(5 × 5), A-TMF(5 × 5), AWMF(5 × 5), MF(3 × 3), A-TMF(3 × 3), AWMF(3 × 3), GF(5 × 5).

  • Non-local similarity of natural images is one of highly exploited features in various applications dealing with images. Unique edges, texture, and pattern of the images are frequently repeated over the entire image. Once the similar image blocks are classified into a cluster, representative features of the image blocks can be extracted from the cluster. The bigger the size of the cluster is the better the additive white noise can be separated. Denoising is one of major research topics in the image processing field suppressing the additive noise. In this paper, a denoising algorithm is proposed which first clusters the noisy image blocks based on similarity, extracts the feature of the cluster, and finally recovers the original image. Performance experiments with several images under various noise strengths show that the proposed algorithm recovers the details of the image such as edges, texture, and patterns while outperforming the previous methods in terms of PSNR in removing the additive Gaussian noise.

  • Nonlinear filters which are utilized rank-order information and temporal-order information, have many proposed, in order to restore nonstationary signals which are corrupted by additive noise. In this paper, we propose a data-dependent LWOS filter whose coefficients change based on local statistics. LWOS(Linear Combination of Weighted Order Statistics) filters[1]which also utilized two informations, and have properties of efficient impulsive and nonimpulsive noise attenuation and sufficiently details and edges preservation. DD-LWOS filters can remove non-impulsive oises while preserving signal details. DD-LWOS2 filter gets more better performance than DD-LWOS filter when input image corrupted by additive noise which includes Impulsive noise components.

  • The EMG signal of spinal cord injured patient is very feeble because that the information from central nervous system is not sufficiently transmitted to molter neuron or muscle fiber. Therefore the observer can not observe contraction and relaxation movement of muscle from the raw EMG signal. In this paper, we propose the muscle contraction and relaxation pattern analysis method of spinal cord injured patient whose EMG signal is composed of the sum of motor unit action potential train with additive white Gaussian noise and impulsive noise. From the EMG model, we denoise impulsive noise using median filter which is a kind of nonlinear filter and the output of median filter is transformed to wavelet transform domain for denoising additive white Gaussian noise using threshold level removal technique. As a result, we can obtain the clear contraction and relaxation pattern.
