  • This paper proposes an indirect adaptive fuzzy controller for general SISO nonlinear systems. No a priori information on bounding constants of uncertainties including reconstruction errors and optimal fuzzy parameters is needed. The control law and the update laws for fuzzy rule structure and estimates of fuzzy parameters and bounding constants are determined so that the Lyapunov stability of the whole closed loop system is guaranteed. The computer simulation results for an inverted pendulum system show the performance of the proposed robust adaptive fuzzy controller.

  • A data compression system has been developed by combining adaptive wavelets and optimization technique. The adaptive wavelets were made by optimizing the coefficients of the wavelet matrix. The optimization procedure has been performed by criteria of minimizing the reconstruction error. The resulting adaptive basis outperformed such conventional basis as Daubechies-5 by 5-10%. It was also shown that the yarn density profiles could be compressed by over 95% without a significant loss of information.

  • In adaptive fuzzy control, fuzzy systems are used to approximate the unknown plant nonlinearities. However, because of the approximating error introduced into the feedback loop, it is difficult to guarantee the stability of the adaptive control algorithm. This paper presents a robust control algorithm against the reconstruction error and uniform boundedness of the all signals is estabilished in the Lyapunov sense.

  • In this paper, an effective method of stereo image reconstruction through the regularized adaptive disparity estimation is proposed. Althougth the conventional adaptive disparity estimation method can sharply improve the PSNR of a reconstructed stereo image, but some problems of overlapping between the matching windows and disallocation of the matching windows can be occurred, because the matching window size changes adaptively in accordance with the magnitude of feature values. Accordingly, in thia paper, a new regularized adaptive disparity estimation technique is proposed. That is, by regularizing the estimated disparity vector with the neughboring disparity vectors, problems of the conventional adaptive disparity estimated scheme might be solved, and also the predicted stereo image can be more effectively reconstructed. From some experiments using the CCETT'S stereo image pairs of 'Man' and 'Claude', it is analyzed that the proposed disparity estimation scheme can improve PSNRs of the reconstructed images to 10.89dB, 6.13dB for 'Man' and 1.41dB, 0.81dB for 'Claude' by comparing with those of the conventional pixel-based and adaptive estimation method, respectively.

  • Single-photon emission computed tomography SPECT image reconstruction methods have a significant influence on image quality, with filtered back projection (FBP) and ordered subset expectation maximization (OSEM) being the most commonly used methods. In this study, we proposed newly-designed adaptive non-blind deconvolution with a structural similarity (SSIM) index that can take advantage of the FBP and OSEM image reconstruction methods. After acquiring brain SPECT images, the proposed image was obtained using an algorithm that applied the SSIM metric, defined by predicting the distribution and amount of blurring. As a result of the contrast to noise ratio (CNR) and coefficient of variation evaluation (COV), the resulting image of the proposed algorithm showed a similar trend in spatial resolution to that of FBP, while obtaining values similar to those of OSEM. In addition, we confirmed that the CNR and COV values of the proposed algorithm improved by approximately 1.69 and 1.59 times, respectively, compared with those of the algorithm involving an inappropriate deblurring process. To summarize, we proposed a new type of algorithm that combines the advantages of SPECT image reconstruction techniques and is expected to be applicable in various fields.

  • Most of the 3D object reconstruction techniques divide the object into multiplane and approximate the surfaces of the object. The Marching Cubes Algorithm which initializes the mesh structure using a given isovalue. and Delaunay Tetrahedrisation are widely used. Deformable models are well-suited for general object reconstruction because they make little assumptions about the shape to recover and they can reconstruct objects *om various types of datasets. Now, many researchers are studying the reconstruction systems based on a deformable model. In this paper, we propose a novel method for reconstruction of 3D objects. This method, for a 3D object composed of curved planes, compresses the 3D object based on the adaptive simplexmesh technique. It changes the pre-defined mesh structure, so that it may approach to the original object. Also, we redefine the geometric characteristics such as curvatures. As results of simulations, we show reconstruction of the original object with high compression and concentration of vertices towards parts of high curvature in order to optimize the shape description.

  • Many advanced ground-based solar telescopes improve the spatial resolution of observation images using an adaptive optics (AO) system. As any AO correction remains only partial, it is necessary to use post-processing image reconstruction techniques such as speckle masking or shift-and-add (SAA) to reconstruct a high-spatial-resolution image from atmospherically degraded solar images. In the New Vacuum Solar Telescope (NVST), the spatial resolution in solar images is improved by frame selection and SAA. In order to overcome the burden of massive speckle data processing, we investigate the possibility of using the speckle reconstruction program in a real-time application at the telescope site. The code has been written in the C programming language and optimized for parallel processing in a multi-processor environment. We analyze the scalability of the code to identify possible bottlenecks, and we conclude that the presented code is capable of being run in real-time reconstruction applications at NVST and future large aperture solar telescopes if care is taken that the multi-processor environment has low latencies between the computation nodes.

  • This paper proposes an adaptive algorithm for the quantization step size control of MPEG-2, using the information obtained from the previously encoded picture. Before quantizing the DCT coefficients, the properties of reconstruction error of each macro block (MB) is predicted from the previous frame. For the prediction of the error of current MB, a block with the size of MB in the previous frame are chosen by use of the motion vector. Since the original and reconstructed images of the previous frame are available in the encoder, we can calculate the reconstruction error of this block. This error is considered as the expected error of the current MB if it is quantized with the same step size and bit rate. Comparing the error of the MB with the average of overall MBs, if it is larger than the average, small step size is given for this MB, and vice versa. As a result, the error distribution of the MB is more concentrated to the average, giving low variance and improved image quality. Especially for the low bit application, the proposed algorithm gives much smaller error variance and higher PSNR compared to TM5 (test model 5).

  • To improve the rate-distortion performance of distributed video compressive sensing (DVCS), the adaptive sparse basis and nonlocal similarity of video are proposed to jointly reconstruct the video signal in this paper. Due to the lack of motion information between frames and the appearance of some noises in the reference frames, the sparse dictionary, which is constructed using the examples directly extracted from the reference frames, has already not better obtained the sparse representation of the interpolated block. This paper proposes a method to construct the sparse dictionary. Firstly, the example-based data matrix is constructed by using the motion information between frames, and then the principle components analysis (PCA) is used to compute some significant principle components of data matrix. Finally, the sparse dictionary is constructed by these significant principle components. The merit of the proposed sparse dictionary is that it can not only adaptively change in terms of the spatial-temporal characteristics, but also has ability to suppress noises. Besides, considering that the sparse priors cannot preserve the edges and textures of video frames well, the nonlocal similarity regularization term has also been introduced into reconstruction model. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can improve the objective and subjective quality of video frame, and achieve the better rate-distortion performance of DVCS system at the cost of a certain computational complexity.
