Purpose - This study examined the effect of empowering leadership on adaptive performance and verified the mediating effect of job challenge in the relationship between empowering leadership and adaptive performance. Additionally, this study investigated the moderating effect of agentic and communal traits in the relationship between supervisor's empowering leadership and adaptive performance of subordinates. Design/methodology/approach - This study used data collected from 279 participants via an online platform. Multiple regression analysis, bootstrapping, hierarchical regression analysis, and simple slope test were used to analyze the data. Findings - First, supervisor's empowering leadership had a positive effect on adaptive performance. Second, job challenge was found to mediate the relationship between supervisor's empowering leadership and adaptive performance. Third, the agentic trait showed a moderating effect on strengthening the relationship between supervisor's empowering leadership and adaptive performance. However, communal trait did not show a moderating effect. Research implications or Originality - This study examined the moderating effect of agentic traits in the relationship between empowering leadership and adaptive performance, which has not been investigated before.

This study utilized the HEXACO model developed by Lee et al. to investigate the effect of personal level personality variables on adaptive performance of new pilots engaged in domestic airlines. As a result of the analysis, it was found out that extroversion had a statistically significant effect on adaptive performance, while openness to experience and conscientiousness did not affect the adaptive performance statistically. In the analysis of interaction between personality variables and demographic variables, there was a statistically significant interaction effect between the origin and extroversion. Second, it was confirmed that the extroversion variable had an influence on the adaptive performance, suggesting that personality variables should be reflected in the selection of new pilots. Third, when the extroversion level was low, the adaptive performance of the civilian was relatively lower than that of the military.

Objective: The purpose of this study is to explain in detail the factors of the father's play interaction that predict children's adaptive emotional regulation. This study examined the moderated mediation effect of a father's rough-and-tough play toward a child's emotional expressiveness and the father's play participation attitude on the child's adaptive emotional regulation. Methods: The study participants included 309 fathers of children aged from 3 to 5 years. Data were analyzed using models of the PROCESS Macro. Results: As a result of this research, the relationship of the father's rough-and-tough play with the child's adaptive emotional regulation was that this was indeed mediated by the child's negative emotional expressiveness. Additionally, the father's responsive and fun play attitude moderated the relationship between the father's rough-and-tough play and the child's adaptive emotional regulation. Further, the father's responsive and fun play attitude according to level had a moderated mediation effect. Conclusion/Implications: These results are meaningful in that they derives a mechanism for why and how a father's rough-and-tough play affects children's adaptive emotional regulation.

Adaptive behaviors are one of ubiquitous features in evolutionary dynamics of populations, and certain adaptive behaviors can be witnessed by individuals' movements which are generally affected by local environments. In this paper, by revisiting the previous work, we investigate the sensitivity of species coexistence in the system of cyclic competition where species movement can be affected by local environments. By measuring the extinction probability through Monte-Carlo simulations, we find the relativistic effect of weights of local fitness and exchange rate for adaptive movement on species biodiversity which promotes species coexistence as the relativistic effect is intensified. In addition, by means of basins of initial conditions, we also found that adaptive movement can also affect species biodiversity with respect to the choice of initial conditions. The strong adaptive movement can eventually lead the coexistence as a globally stable state in the spatially extended system regardless of mobility.

The adaptive reuse of 20th-century high-rise architecture poses important questions about the prevalence of authorized discourses in the heritage conservation field. Based on a two-year teaching experience at Tongji University about the adaptive reuse of the Metropolo Hotel (Palmer and Turner, 1934), an iconic historic high-rise building in the Shanghai Bund area, this paper will show the extent to which disciplinary and urban authorized heritage discourses are present in the development of design and representation strategies in adaptive reuse. Using discourse analysis as a method, this paper will make the argument that disciplinary discourses have a limited effect in the practice of adaptive reuse, which is perceived as a fundamentally creative activity. At the same time, the paper reveals how urban discourses have a much more lasting effect, confirming the intimate links between adaptive reuse and the wider phenomena of beautification and gentrification of high-rise listed areas.

This study tried to confirm the mediating effect of positive psychological capital on the relationship between the communication Competence of managers who are recognized as organizational members working in the company and the adaptive performance of the members. To this end, the research hypothesis established through the final 255 data was verified as follows using the SPSS 21.00 and AMOS 21.1 version statistical programs. First, the higher the manager's communication Competence, the higher the positive psychological capital of organizational members. Second, the higher the communication Competence of the manager, the higher the adaptive performance of the members. Third, as the positive psychological capital of organizational members improved, adaptation performance improved. Fourth, positive psychological capital showed a partial mediating effect between the manager's communication Competence and the member's adaptive performance. The results of this study empirically analyzed the relationship between manager's communication Competence and members' positive psychological capital assumption (+) on the improvement of organizational members' adaptive performance ability. This study has the meaning of the most important research in that it provides additional theoretical and practical implications in the face of insufficient research on factors affecting the adaptation performance of organizational members.

Image Enhancement is used in various applications. Among them, unsharp masking methods can improve the contrast with a simple operation. However, it has problems of noise enhancement and halo effect caused by the use of a single filter. To solve this problems, adaptive processing using multi-scale and bilinear filters is being studied. These methods are effective for improving the halo effect, but it require a lot of calculation time. In this paper, we want to simplify adaptive filtering by generating a weight map based on local brightness. This weight map enables adaptive processing that eliminates the halo effect through a single multiplication operation. Through experiments, we confirmed the suppression of the halo effect through the result image of the proposed algorithm and existing algorithm.

Adaptive control system has evolved as an attempt to avoid degradation of the dynamic performance of a control system when environmental variations occurs. While the feedback control system is oriented toward the elimination of the effect of state perturbations, the adaptive control system is oriented toward the elimination of the effect of structural perturbation, upon the performances of the control system. The model reference adaptive controller is utilized in velocity loop controller for positioning and tracking is designed based on the linear decoupled dynamics.

This study used a latent growth curve models(LGCM) to examine longitudinal changes in youth's game usage, self-control and the longitudinal mediation effect of adaptive game use in the relationship between game usage and self-control. A four-year longitudinal data of 863 adolescents from the Game User Panel Survey, provided through participation in the 2019 Game User Panel Research Conference hosted by the Korea Creative Contents Agency, was used to verify the longitudinal mediation effect of adaptive game use. SPSS 21 was used to verify the normality of variables from each wave, and to conduct correlation analysis. Mplus 6.12 was used to verify the longitudinal mediation effect. The results are as follows. First, game usage, self-control and adaptive game yielded linear temporal growth. Second, latent growth curve models showed that the direct effect of game usage on self-control was insignificant, but game usage had a significant indirect effect on self-control through adaptive game use. Continuous adaptive gaming increased self-control. Third, sobel test results showed that both the initial value and change rate of adaptive game use had a full-mediation effect, confirming the longitudinal mediation effect. This study verified the longitudinal change of self-control affected by change in game usage and adaptive game use.

Globalization has led to a dramatic increase in intercultural service encounters between services providers and customers from diverse cultural backgrounds. This paper explores the causal relationship between service employees‟ cultural intelligence and adaptive sales behavior in intercultural service encounters, and the mediating effect of cognitive and emotional empathy on this relationship. A quantitative survey methodology was utilized to collect data on 341 salespeople at duty-free shops located on Jeju Island, Korea. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS 18 and Amos 18. The results show that cultural intelligence has a significant impact on cognitive empathy, emotional empathy, and adaptive sales behavior. Cognitive empathy has a positive impact on adaptive sales behavior, whereas the relationship between emotional empathy and adaptive sales behavior is not significant. Additionally, cognitive empathy mediates the relationship of cultural intelligence and adaptive sales behavior. This study has useful managerial implications for employee selection, training, and development in service firms engaged in intercultural service encounters. This study extends prior research on intercultural service encounters by exploring the direct impact of cultural intelligence on intercultural adaptation and the mediating effect of empathy, suggesting the presence of a cognitive mechanism that plays a key role in the impact of cultural intelligence on adaptive sales behavior.
