  • This study was designed to obtain the mean values of thirteen soil physico-chemical properties for different paddy soil management groups, and to serve the basic information for improving the soil using amendments. Computerized data on the results of detailed soil survey were used in this study. The clay contents in the B horizon of paddy soil management groups were 28.3% in the well adapted type, 11.8% in the sandy textured type, and 26.8% in the newly reclaimed type. Soil pH of B horizon in the paddy soil management groups except poorly drained type and acid sulfate type were higher than those of A horizon. In the river side paddy soils of well adapted type, the clay contents of A and B horizons were 16.8%, 23.1%, respectively, and soil organic matter contents of those horizons were 42g/kg, 18g/kg, respectively. And also available phosphate content of well adapted type was higher than the other types. Frequency of distribution of soil organic matter content levels in the B horizons of sandy textured type and newly reclaimed type were higher in the organic matter content range of below 10g/kg. And those of well adapted, poorly drained, and saline type were higher in the organic matter content range of 10~20g/kg. Correlation coefficients between 13 variables in the B horizon of well adapted type were all highly significant at 1% or 5% level, respectively.

  • A process of organically bound germanium preparation was developed for healthy food using inorganic germanium adapted Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Adaptations of Saccharomyces cerevisiae against inorganic germanium were successively carried out through stepwise increase of GeO$_{2}$ concentration in order to produce high quantities of germanium bound yeast. Productivity of yeast and quantities of germanium in yeast were obtained 70.2 g/l and 9780 ppm, repectively, when adapted yeast and fed batch culture were used. Germanium taken-up yeast is to be organically bound germanium by evidence of no difference of germanium content after dialysis.

  • Photoinhibition and its recovery of spectrally adapted Anacystis nidulans were studied. Phycocyanin and Chl content and phycocyanin/Chl ratio were increased in cells grown under blue-green light compared with those grown in white light. Photosynthetic activities of white light and blue-green light grown cells were reduced by 50% after 15 min and 10 min of photoinhibitory light treatment (1.2 mmol·m-2s-1), respectively, largely due to the decline of PSII activities. However, their activities were recovered fully after 30 min incubation under weak light. Treatment of rifampicin and chloramphenicol magnified the photoinhibitory effects and suppressed the recovery with disappearance of susceptibility to photoinhibition and delayed the recovery process, indicating no significant differences in phosphorylation, dephosphorylation and protease activity between two cells. Therefore, it is suggested that the increased sensitivity of blue-green adapted cells might be attributed to the decline of protein synthesis, and phosphorylation-dephosphorylation of protein and protease activity might be involved in the recovery process.

  • A conventional environment adaptation for robust speech recognition is usually conducted using transform-based techniques. Here, we present a discriminative adaptation strategy based on a multi-condition-trained model, and propose a new method to provide universal application to a new environment using the environment's specific conditions. Experimental results show that a speech recognition system adapted using the proposed method works successfully for other conditions as well as for those of the new environment.

  • As ubiquitous technology has been developed and has come into everyday life, it has been integrated to tourism information service. However, each regional government develops ubiquitous tourism information service independently without successful example or standard. Therefore, this paper aims to analyze existing cases of domestic ubiquitous tourism information service as a foundation research to establish standard and effective development strategy for accelerating ubiquitous tourism information service in the future. First, ubiquitous technology trend which can be adapted to tourism information service was reviewed by secondary research. Second, representative cases of ubiquitous tourism information service were collected and analyzed in four aspects such as adapted ubiquitous technology, adapted device, service content and type of content. Finally, overall development strategy of ubiquitous tourism information service was discussed based on the analysis result. This paper contributes to get an outline of present conditions and problems of existing ubiquitous tourism information service, suggest overall development direction for ubiquitous tourism information service and point out necessity of the standard and unified plan for nationwide development and management.

  • Ultrastructural and histochemical changes of mucous cells In the freshwater and seawater-adapted guppy (Poecflia reticulatus) gills were observed by the light, scanning-and transmisslon~lectron microscopes. The mucous cells were usually located in the epithelium of primary lameilne projected from the gill arch. The rough endoplasmic retIculum and Golgi complex were hIghly developed In immature mucous cells. The mature mucous cells were nearly filled with the mucous granules. In the freshwater guppy, the histochemical properties of the mucous cells were a mixture of the neutral mucin, sialomucin and sulfomucin. When guppy was adapted to the seawater, the content of acid glycoproteins (slalomucln and sulfomucin) was decreased. In addition, the number of mucous cells in the seawater-adapted group was less than a third of those in the freshwater one. These results suggest that the seawater-adapted guppy would react to the changed osmotic stress of the seawater. And also, the environmental change by the increased salt concentraion might lead to reduce the chance of infections.

  • Nowadays, it becomes a widespread and frequent practice that one content as a source is converted into diverse media formats. However, it is hard to answer the question whether the converted content might become successful again. That is mainly because one needs to have clear understanding about the characteristics of the target media format. This explains the phenomenon that there are very few successful movies which have been adapted from successful digital games. Thus, it is essential to conduct thorough and sufficient researches on the success factors of the adapted movies. The objective of this research is to investigate and analyze common factors of successful movies from digital games in terms of their visuals and narratives. We have found that successfully adapted movies from digital games shares three commonalities in the work of adaptation for effective cinematic impacts. Firstly, the adaptors of the successful movies have composed scripts with riveting storytelling through simplification, compression and removal of the original story. Secondly, they have satisfactorily re-implemented the original game avatars in the process of adaptation. Finally, they have effectively discovered inherent attractiveness of the original games and incorporated into the target movies with faithful following of cinematic grammar. We expect that our work contribute to reduce failure rate of the prospective movies converted from games by the proposed analysis of success factors shared among successfully adapted movies through the proposed case studies.

  • Four introduced forage rape (Brassica napus) cultivars, 'Akela', 'Ramon', 'Sparta', and 'Velox' and a leading rapeseed cultivar, 'Hallayuchae' were grown at nitrogen (N) rates of 0, 100, 250, 300, 350, and 400 kg/ha to (i) select forage rape cultivars adapted best to Cheju area, and (ii) determine the optimum N rate for the best cultivars. Days from seeding to flowering across the cultivars increased 190 to 195 days as N rate increased from 0 to 400 kg/ha. Average days to flowering of six cultivars ranged from 182 to 198 days. Plant height increased as N rate increased up to 300 kg/ha and then decreased with a further increase in N rate and ranged from 159 to 174 cm among the cultivars. The optimum N rate for the greatest dry matter yield of five cultivars ranged from 222 to 258 kg/ha. Sparta showed the greatest dry matter yield (35.79 Mg/ha), followed by Akela, Hallayuchae, Velox, and Ramon. As N rate increased, crude protein content linearly increased but crude fiber content declined curvilinearly. Akela and Sparta had higher protein content than the other cultivars did. The forage cultivars had lower crude fiber content than the oilseed cultivar Hallayuchae did. Our results demonstrated that Sparta was best adapted to Cheju area and the optimum N rate for Sparta was about 220kg/ha.

  • When multimedia contents are adapted to different terminals in the ubiquitous computing environment, the contents' modalities can be converted variously. In this paper, we present an efficient user preference that enable user to specify his choices on the modalities of the adapted contents. We also propose the methods to systematically integrate the user preference into the content adaptation process. This modality conversion preference has been developed as a description tool for MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation (DIA).
