Clinical Study on Effect of Carthmi-Flos Herbal acupuncture theraphy on shoulder pain (홍화 약침의 견비통에 대한 임상적 연구)

  • Objective : This study is designed to find out the effects of Carthmi-Flos Herbal acupuncture therapy on shoulder pain. Methods : Under the assumption that Bee-venom Therapy may be effective for treatment seborrheic dermatitis, Bee-venom acupuncture was injected subcutaneously into the lesion including Gv24(神庭), Gv23(上星), Gv22, Gv20(白會), B4(供差), B5(五處), B6(承光), S8(頭維), etc. Results : 1. Female patients were 18 cases and these were more 12 cases than male patients. Fifty aged patients were the most(11 cases, 36.7%). 2. Below 1 month duration of disease was the most(14 cases 46.7%). 3. The effects of treatment by condition of patients was follows : After treatment, Grade IV was decreased 26.7%, Grade III was decreased 6.6% and Grade II was increased 23.3%. 4. The effects of treatment by Duration was follow : Below 1 month & 1 month to 6 month were improved highly. 5. In evaluating of satisfaction, exellent was 6 cases, and good was 19 cases. The percentage of above good was 83.3%. Conclusions : According to the results, Carthmi-Flos Herbal acupuncture may be good effects on the decrease of shoulder pain.

  • Objective : Recently, Seguele of Traffic Accident patients are increasing, especially cervical injury bring only severe sequela but also mortal damage to the patient. In treatment of the disease, the east medical treatment is another effective method. Methods : The patient resisted the west theraphy improved greatly in movement and sensation by acupuncture, moxibustion, herb medication and Physical treatment. In MRI, The treatment result is proved. Acupuncture on Stomach Meridian(足陽明胃經) referring to Naijing(內經) is thought effective. Results : Tetraplegia by Traffic Accident is considered as Wei Symptom in term of the east medicine, By means of radial and physical study of the patient treated by the east medicine, we are conviced that the east medicine is the excellent method Conclusions : Referring to the past documentary data, The only Treatment on this disease is Surgical operation, but the operation isn't the successful one because seg. of spinal cord injury is mortal. The east treatment, acupuncture, moxibustion herb medication and physical treatment isn't only effective but also satisfactory. In the future, The study on this disease by the east medicine should be made thoroughly.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the patients with radial nerve palsy, who inproved by oriental medical treatment Methods & Results : The patients were hospitalized Dept. of Acupunture & Moxibustion, College of Oriental Medicine, Daejeon University from 1st, Mar. 2005 to 31th. Aug. 2005, and treated with Acupuncture and Electrical Stimulation theraphy, Herbal medication, Oriental physical therapy. To evaluate the wrist drop and numbness of fingers, Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and the measurement of wrist circumstance are used. As the result, symptoms are improved remarkably Conclusion : Patients were treated for 4.1 weeks(average). 6 cases were excellent and 1 case was good.

  • Object : This study is designed to evaluate the correlation between the data of DITI(Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging)examination and the changes of clinical symptom after the therapy of acupuncture in the patients with herniated cervical intervertebral disc. Content : The conservative therapy with acupuncture was performed during $4{\sim}5$ weeks, The acupuncture points of SI3, B62, TE3, G34, LI4, S36, GV26, G21, SII5 were used. In the pre- and post therapy, DITI examinations were performed in patients who had HIVD and were treated by acupuncture simultaneously, and then tried to correlate the results of clinical symptoms with the difference of thermographic findings at pre-acupuncture and post-acupuncture. Setting : The standard routine thermoghaphic examinations were performed with thermography(DITI) in the 15 patients with lumbar disc herniations at pre- and post acupuncture. Patient : Thermographic imaging of 15 cases were analyzed. They has disc herniations in X-ray, CT scan and MRI and they were treated by acupuncture theraphy in our hospital from March, 1994 to January, 1995. Result : 1) The causes were trauma(60%), retention of phlegm and fluid(8.7%) and cold & moisture(33.3%) 2) Levels of herniated cervical disc are C2/3(1 case). C3/4(2 cases), C5/6 & C6/7 (2 cases), C6/7(4 cases), Normal(6 cases). 3) Classifications of thermographic pattern are radiculopathy(80%), spot(13.3%), and nonspecific(6.7%) in order. 4) In evaluation Results of clinical symptom are Excellent(80%), Good(6.7%), and Poor(6.7%). Data of DITI are Excellent(80%), Good(6.7%), Fair(6.7%), and Poor(6.7%). Conclusion ; Acupuncture showed good results over 86.7% in clinical evaluation and 86.7% in DITI. Thermographic examination was valuable in the evaluation of therapeutic effect of acupuncture treatment.

  • In this paper, we studied Dongssi' acupuncture therapy via the consideration of development process of Oriental medicine in history. We investigated the distribution chart and naming of Dongssi' acupuncture point in human body, artificial selection principle of Dongssi' acupuncture point to therapy (選穴原則) on the various diseases, the therapy of pyo-bon (標本理論) and the therapy of Geun-Gyeal (根結理論) and compared GeoZa-principle (巨刺法) and MuZa-principle (繆刺法) with artificial selection principle of Dongssi' acupuncture point. And we also studied the acupuncture therapy of DongGi (動氣鍼法), DoMa (倒馬鍼法) and SaeIn (索引鍼法), which is the unique principle in Dongssi' acupuncture theraphy, to consider with the other Oriental medicine theory which is the theory of ZangSang (臟象學說) and BiWi (脾胃學說) etc. Our desire in this study is the giving aid to treatment diseases with the acupuncture therapy in Oriental medicine.

  • Clinical studies were done on 80 persons who were treated with the acupuncture theraphy frozen shoulder. The following results are obtained. 1. Distribution of sex: male(28 persons), female (52 persons). 2. Causes of illness: work(40 persons), unknown origin(32 persons). 3. Duration of illness: less than 1 month(28 persons), 1-3 month(22 persons), 3-6 months(20 persons). 4. Distribution of occupational: housewife(30 persons), unemployed(22 persons), farmer(16 persons). 5. Distribution according to number of times of treatment rate: 3 weeks(32 persons), 2 weeks(14 persons), 4weeks(10 persons). 6. The classification of abduction disturbance before treatment were Gl group 14 persons, GII group 46 persons, GIII group 20 persons. After treatment were GI group 41 persons, GII group 30 persons, GIII group 9 persons. 7. The classification of HBST disturbance before treatment were GI group 10 persons, GII group 51 persons, GIII group 19 persons. After treatment were GI group 39 persons, GII group 28 persons , GIII group 13 persons. 8. The classification of MWT disturbance before treatment were GI group 25 persons, GII group 37 persons, GIII group 18 persons. After treatment were GI group 44 persons, GII group 25 persons, GIII group 11 persons.

  • Objectives: We recently experienced one case of Transverse Myelitis. We would introduce the clinical report it Methods: In the point of Differentiation of Syndrome, these subjects were diagnosed as Wejeung(Weizheng;痿證). We treated here with acupuncture. moxa, physical theraphy and herbal medication Results & Conclusions: Symptoms of the patient of this report were improved after above treatment. So it is suggested that oriental medical treatment is effective in Transverse Myelitis

  • Objectives : The objective of this study is to report the effect of Traditional Korean medical therapy and core exercise on osteoarthritis of knee joint by observing a clinical case study. Methods : Patient with a diagnosis of osteoarthritis of knee joint, was treated by acupuncture, herb medicine, physical theraphy and core exercise. Results : After treatment, Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), Korean version of the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities(KWOMAC), Pain Rating Score(PRS) were reduced from 5 to 2, from 25 to 16, from 55 to 27, and CENTAUR test results were improved. Conclusions : This study showed that Traditional Korean medical therapy and core exercise has meaningful effect on osteoarthritis of knee joint, and more researches should be followed.

The Effect of Graston Technique and Chuna manual therapy combined with Korean Medical Treatment for fibromyalgia: A Case Report

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to report the clinical effects of the Graston Technique and Chuna manual therapy, combined with Korean Medical Treatment for fibromyalgia. Methods : We treated a patient diagnosed with fibromyalgia. We used acupuncture, the Graston Technique, Chuna manual therapy, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion and physical therapy. Outcomes were evaluated using the American College of Rheumatology Preliminary Diagnostic Criteria (ACR), the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQ), and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Results : The widespread pain index (WPI) scale score of the ACR decreased from 12 to 9, and the symptom severity scale (SS) score of the ACR decreased from 8 to 6. The FIQ score decreased from 63.69 to 50.15. On the NRS, lower back pain & lower limb pain decreased from 6 to 2; neck pain from 6 to 3; muscle tenderness & morning stiffness from 6 to 4; fatigue from 6 to 3; urticaria from 6 to 2. Conclusion : This case study suggests that the Graston Technique and Chuna manual therapy combined with Korean Medical Treatment may be effective treatments for fibromyalgia. However, further studies are needed.

The Comparison of Bee Venom Herbal-acupuncture Therapy between Neighboring Acupuncture Points and Neighboring-Remote Acupuncture Points on the Treatment of Lumbar Spine Herniation of Nucleus Pulpous (요추간판탈출증에 봉약침의 근위 취혈과 근위 및 원위 취혈의 비교)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to compare the improvement effects on lumbar spine herniation of nucleus pulpous between neighboring acupuncture points and neighboring-remote acupuncture points by bee venom herbal-acupuncture therapy. Methods : The 30 patients who had a diagnosis of lumbar spine herniation of nucleus pulpous were divided into two groups. Group A was 15 cases treated with bee venom herbal-acupuncture therapy on neighboring acupuncture points, group B was 15 cases treated on neighboring and remote acupuncture points. The two groups were also managed by moxibustion, physical theraphy and herbal medicine. The improvement effects between two groups was estimated by low back pain index and visual analogue scale(VAS) score after 10 days treatment. Results : After 10 days treatment. low back pain index and VAS score were significantly improved in both two groups, but there was no significantly difference between two groups in both low back pain index and VAS score. Conclusion : In this study, there were same effects between neighboring acupuncture points and neighboring-remote acupuncture points bee venom herbal-acupuncture therapy. But further studies are required to confirm the effect of these methods.
