A Study on Power Trading Methods for in a Hydrogen Residential Model (수소주거모델의 전력 거래 참여 방안 고찰)

  • Participation in power trading using surplus power is considered a business model active in the domestic energy trade market, but it is limited only if the legal requirements according to the type, capacity, and use of the facilities to be applied for are satisfied. The hydrogen residential demonstration model presented in this paper includes solar power, energy storage system (ESS), fuel cell, and water electrolysis facilities in electrical facilities for private use with low-voltage power receiving system. The concept of operations strategy for this model focuses on securing the energy self-sufficiency ratio of the entire system, securing economic feasibility through the optimal operation module installed in the energy management system (EMS), and securing the stability of the internal power balancing issue during the stand-alone mode. An electric facility configuration method of a hydrogen residential complex demonstrated to achieve this operational goal has a structure in which individual energy sources are electrically connected to the main bus, and ESS is also directly connected to the main bus instead of a renewable connection type to perform charging/discharging operation for energy balancing management in the complex. If surplus power exists after scheduling, participation in power trading through reverse transmission parallel operation can be considered to solve the energy balancing problem and ensure profitability. Consequentially, this paper reviews the legal regulations on participation in electric power trading using surplus power from hydrogen residential models that can produce and consume power, gas, and thermal energy including hybrid distributed power sources, and suggests action plans.

Spectogram analysis of active power of appliances and LSTM-based Energy Disaggregation (다수 가전기기 유효전력의 스팩토그램 분석 및 LSTM기반의 전력 분해 알고리즘)

  • In this study, we propose a deep learning-based NILM technique using actual measured power data for 5 kinds of home appliances and verify its effectiveness. For about 3 weeks, the active power of the central power measuring device and five kinds of home appliances (refrigerator, induction, TV, washing machine, air cleaner) was individually measured. The preprocessing method of the measured data was introduced, and characteristics of each household appliance were analyzed through spectogram analysis. The characteristics of each household appliance are organized into a learning data set. All the power data measured by the central power measuring device and 5 kinds of home appliances were time-series mapping, and training was performed using a LSTM neural network, which is excellent for time series data prediction. An algorithm that can disaggregate five types of energies using only the power data of the main central power measuring device is proposed.

Feeding specificity and photosynthetic activity of Korean sacoglossan mollusks

  • During feeding on algal cytoplasm, some sacoglossans are known to keep the chloroplasts photosynthetically active for days to months in their digestive cells. Korean sacoglossan mollusks containing functional chloroplasts were screened using an in vivo chlorophyll fluorescence measuring system (pulse amplitude modulation, PAM). We collected six sacoglossans feeding on siphonous and siphonocladous green algae (Elysia atroviridis, E. nigrocapitata, E. ornata, Ercolania boodleae, Placida dendritica, Stiliger sp.) and one feeding on ceramiaceaen algae (Stiliger berghi) and performed feeding experiments using 37 algal species. Three species of Elysia showed strong photosynthetic activity for months. However, P. dendritica maintained functional chloroplasts only for several hours after feeding. E. boodleae, S. berghi, and Stiliger sp. showed no photosynthetic activity in any circumstances. Among all species, E. nigrocapitata was capable to tolerate the longest period of starvation for over 4 months. Four 'solar powered' sacoglossans bonded avidly to their specific algal food. Each species attached to and consumed only one algal species when several algae were given together. While they occasionally consumed other algae after prolonged starvation, they always reverted to their specific algae when available.

  • It has been speculated that there could be dormant or extinct comets in the list of known asteroids, which appear asteroidal but are icy bodies originating from outer solar system. However, little is known about the existence of such objects not only because of their complicated chaotic orbits but also because of the limited physical and chemical information. AKARI infrared space mission gave us brand-new albedo catalog of Near Earth Objects, which clues in a better understanding of dark asteroids using both albedo data and dynamical models could be possible. Dark Asteroids with low () albedos are thought to be dormant or extinct comet candidates due to its similar albedo values with comet nucleus. In addition to this, dynamical models indicate that candidate cometary objects have Tisserand parameter. Based on both observational and dynamical criteria, we obtained 196 dark asteroids lists. We numerically integrated backward their orbits using the N-body code Mercury6 (Chambers 1999) during 10 million years to track the past orbits of bodies. We picked out 14 comet candidates that show abnormal orbits in the past by analyzing orbital elements among 196 candidates. From the dynamical evolution simulations, we finally obtained 3 most-likely comet candidates; 944Hidalgo,2006QL39,andP/SidingSpring.Twoofthemareconsistent with past research; P/Siding Spring is a known comet and 944 Hidalgo is a most-likely comet candidate in asteroid populations. Since they all have stable orbits in nowadays although they have unstable orbit in the past, we could conclude that they may be not active comets but dormant or extinct comets.

  • It is considered that comets near the ecliptic plane have been injected into inner solar system from Kuiper-belt. Some of them are still active while others are dormant with no detectable tails and comae. These dormant comets have eccentric and/or inclined orbits, which are parameterized by Tisserand parameter TJ<3. In addition, dormant comets can be differentiated from asteroids based on the albedo, because they have low albedo (the geometrical albedos pv<0.1). The conditions of TJ<3 and pv<0.1 have been used as a criteria to discriminate dormant comets from asteroids.   • The flexible structure like solar array and antenna in spacecraft shows very sensitive responses to the inner or outer disturbance and noise. And the spacecraft becomes more complex and larger as it has various mission and role. But since the spacecraft need to have the limited mass, the thin and light material should be selected and this necessity induces the decrease d natural frequency and structural stiffness. It reduces the ability of adapting to the disturbance and induces the structural unstability. Certainly, the disturbance does not only make the structural unstability, but also give the bad effect to the precise attitude control. So it is necessary to control the vibration in the space. In this paper, the flexible structure control modeling with piezo sensor and piezo actuator is developed. The model uncertainty of damping ratio is overcome by robust control. The system equation is induced by the finite element method.

  • The increasingly high prices for oil, the exhaustion of fossil fuels as well as concern about global warming are driving rapid growth of alternative sources of energy in the world. The active solution for global environment and exhaustion of energy sources is to develop and popularize the technologies to use natural energy such as sunlight, wind, and water. PV(Photovoltaic) modules are efficient devices that has been considered a logical material for use in buildings. Recent advanced BIPV(Building Integrated PV) technology have rapidly made PVs suitable for direct integration into construction in the world. Recently, building has been higher and higher. Tall buildings have many advantages for BIPV such as wide facade area and no shading effect by the surrounding buildings. However. BIPV has not been applied for tall building facade yet. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to develop suitable BIPV for tall buildings and to put these technologies to practical use. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to investigate unification of BIPV to curtain wall to apply BIPV on tall building through research into advanced application of overseas BIPV cases.

  • The BVR CCD observations of the solar-type contact binary GW Cephei, known as very active dynamically and photometrically, has been made for 20 nights from Nov. 03, 2008 to Dec. 31, 2008 with 1-m reflector of Jincheon station of Chungbuk National University Observatory. A total of 2035 measurements (B: 647, V: 722, R: 666) were obtained to secure new multi-color light curves. From our observations fifteen times of minimum light were newly determined. In this paper both a new period study and an intensive light synthesis were made. Our results will be compared and discussed with the latest thorough studies of the system by Lee et al. (2010).

Use of Light Emitting Diode for Enhanced Activity of Sulfate Reducing Bacteria in Mine Drainage Treatment Process Under Extreme Cold (혹한기 광산배수 처리 공정 내 황산염 환원 박테리아의 활성 증진을 위한 발광다이오드의 이용 제안)

  • This study presents measures to enhance the efficiency of Successive Alkalinity Producing Systems(SAPS), a natural biological purification method that prevents environmental pollution arising from the release of Acid Mine Drainage(AMD) from abandoned mines into rivers and groundwater. The treatment of AMD using SAPS is based on biological processing technology that mostly involves sulfate reducing bacteria(SRB). It has been proven effective in real-world applications, and has been employed in various projects on the purification of AMD. However, seasonal decrease in temperature leads to a deterioration in the efficiency of the process because sulfate-reducing activity is almost non-existent during cold winters and early spring even if SRB is able to survive. Against this backdrop, this study presents measures to enhance the activity of the SRB of the organic layer by integrating light emitting diode(LED)s in SAPS and to maintain the active temperature using LEDs in cold winters. Given that mine drainage facilities are located in areas where power cannot be easily supplied, solar cell modules are proposed as the main power source for LEDs. By conducting further research based on the present study, it will be possible to enhance the efficiency of AMD treatment under extreme cold weather using solar energy and LEDs, which will serve as an environmentally-friendly solution in line with the era of green growth.

An Experimental Study on the Dispersion Characteristics of Seawater Injection Nozzle for Hull Cooling (선체냉각을 위한 해수분사노즐의 산포특성에 관한 실험 연구)

  • Infrared stealth is an important technology for naval ships. This technology helps improve the anti-detection performance and survivability of naval ships. In general, the infrared signature of naval ships are categorized into internal and external heat source. External signature are generated by ship surface heating by solar flux as well as the complicated heat transfer process with the surrounding weather condition. Modern naval ships are equipped with seawater injection nozzles on the outside for nuclear, biological and, chemical, and these nozzles are used to control external signature. Wide nozzle placement intervals and insufficient injection pressure, however, have reduced seawater dispersion area. To address this problem, nozzle installation standards must be established. In this study, an actual-scale experimental system was implemented to provide the evidence for nozzle installation standards in order to reduce the infrared signature of naval ships. In addition, the environmental conditions of the experiment were set up through computational fluid dynamics considering the ocean climate data and naval ship management conditions of South Korea. The dispersion distance was measured using a high-resolution thermography system. The flow rate, pipe pressure, and dispersion distance were analyzed, and the evidence for the installation of seawater injection nozzles and operation performance standards was suggested.
