To predict the behavior of the intravascular micro active endoscope in the real human vascular system, a human mock circulation system was developed. The intravascular micro active endoscope which consists of micro active bending catheter and micro drug infusion catheter was driven in the velocity, Re number and temperature controlled flow. The three SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) zigzag type spring in the micro active bending catheter was heated by the electric current generated by PWM controller, and the shape memory effect made the actuator bend to any direction. The micro drug infusion catheter was driven through the inner hole of the micro active bending catheter. A mock circulation system is shaped from Ascending Arota to Femoral artery according to a human data (the data contains many vascular sizes and hydrographs of many control points). We developed a vascular model with glass and silicone tubes, and set the flow system with circulation parts, flow settling parts, and lots of valves. The heater and heat-controller was added to the How system to centre! the temperature of the How at 36.5$^{\circ}C$. The result showed that the developed intravascular micro active endoscope could be induced to any point in the vascular model.
Visual tracking technique is one of the essential things which are very important in the major fields of modern society. While contour tracking is especially necessary technique in the aspect of its fast performance with target's external contour information, it sometimes fails to track target motion because it is affected by the surrounding edges around target and weak egdes on the target boundary. To overcome these weak points, in this research it is suggested that PDMs can be obtained by generating the virtual 6-DOF motions of the mobile robot with a CCD camera and the image tracking system which is robust to the local minima around the target can be configured by constructing Active Shape Model in modular base. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, the experiment is performed on the image stream obtained by a real mobile robot and the better performance is confirmed by comparing the experimental results with the ones of other major tracking techniques.
Shape memory alloys (SMAs) have emerged as a novel functional material that is being increasingly applied in diverse fields including medical, aeronautical and structural engineering to be used in the active, passive and semi-active structural control devices. This paper is mainly aimed at evaluating the ductility and response modification factor of the steel plate shear wall (SPSW) frames with and without the Ni-Ti shape memory alloys. To this end, different configurations were utilized, in which the walls were used in the first, third, middle, and all stories. The models were numerically analyzed using OpenSees Software. The obtained results indicate that improving the shape memory properties of alloys can greatly enhance the ductility and response modification factor. Furthermore, the model whose first and third stories are equipped with the SMA shear wall was found to be 290% more ductile, with a greater response modification factor compared to the unequipped frame.
Local deformations in back filling materials of two sands and one glass bead with different particle shapes behind a rigid retaining wall were studied. Two kinds of boundary conditions were compared: active wall translation and active rotation of the wall about its toe. Effect of the speed of active wall translation was also investigated. The digital image correlation method was used to analyze local deformation developments inside the materials. Test results showed that particle shape and density mainly influence the inclination angle and width of the shear band. The general shear band pattern is strongly dependent on the wall movement mode, while it was little influenced by particle shape. Within a limited range of wall speed in this study, shear band became wider and local deformation became larger with increase of wall speed.

To avoid influences caused by pose, illumination and facial expression variations, we propose a robust three-step algorithm based on ASM and POEM for facial landmark localization. Firstly, Model Selection Factor is utilized to achieve a pose-free initialized shape. Then, we use the global shape model of ASM to describe the whole face and the texture model POEM to adjust the position of each landmark. Thirdly, a second localization is presented to discriminatively refine the subtle shape variation for some organs and contours. Experiments are conducted in four main face datasets, and the results demonstrate that the proposed method accurately localizes facial landmarks and outperforms other state-of-the-art methods.

Purpose In this paper, we propose a robust 3D vessel tracking algorithm by utilizing an active contour model and unscented Kalman filter which are the two representative algorithms on segmentation and tracking. Materials and Methods The proposed algorithm firstly accepts user input to produce an initial estimate of vessel boundary segmentation. On each Computed Tomography Angiography (CTA) slice, the active contour is applied to segment the vessel boundary. After that, the estimation process of the unscented Kalman filter is applied to track the vessel boundary of the current slice to estimate the inter-slice vessel position translation and shape deformation. Finally both active contour and unscented Kalman filter are inter-operated for vessel segmentation of the next slice. Results The arbitrarily shaped blood vessel boundary on each slice is segmented by using the active contour model, and the Kalman filter is employed to track the translation and shape deformation between CTA slices. The proposed algorithm is applied to the 3D visualization of chest CTA images using graphics hardware. Conclusion Through this algorithm, more opportunities, giving quick and brief diagnosis, could be provided for the radiologist before detailed diagnosis using 2D CTA slices, Also, for the surgeon, the algorithm could be used for surgical planning, simulation, navigation and rehearsal, and is expected to be applied to highly valuable applications for more accurate 3D vessel tracking and rendering.

In this paper, we propose an study of the facial emotion recognition considering the dynamical variation of emotional state in facial image sequences. The proposed system consists of two main step: facial image based emotional feature extraction and emotional state classification/recognition. At first, we propose a method for extracting and analyzing the emotional feature region using a combination of Active Shape Model (ASM) and Facial Action Units (FAUs). And then, it is proposed that emotional state classification and recognition method based on Hidden Markov Model (HMM) type of dynamic Bayesian network. Also, we adopt a Harmony Search (HS) algorithm based heuristic optimization procedure in a parameter learning of HMM in order to classify the emotional state more accurately. By using all these methods, we construct the emotion recognition system based on variations of the dynamic facial image sequence and make an attempt at improvement of the recognition performance.
In cases where strong a priori knowledge about the object being analyzed is available, it can be embedded into the formulation of the snake model. When prior knowledge of shape is available for a specific application, information concerning the shape of the desired objects can be incorporated into the formulation of the snake model as an active contour model. In this paper we show Five points algorithm can be applied to design invariant energy.

In this paper we propose a feature point tracking algorithm using optical flow under non-prior taming active feature model (NPT-AFM). The proposed algorithm mainly focuses on analysis non-rigid objects[1], and provides real-time, robust tracking by NPT-AFM. NPT-AFM algorithm can be divided into two steps: (i) localization of an object-of-interest and (ii) prediction and correction of the object position by utilizing the inter-frame information. The localization step was realized by using a modified Shi-Tomasi's feature tracking algoriam[2] after motion-based segmentation. In the prediction-correction step, given feature points are continuously tracked by using optical flow method[3] and if a feature point cannot be properly tracked, temporal and spatial prediction schemes can be employed for that point until it becomes uncovered again. Feature points inside an object are estimated instead of its shape boundary, and are updated an element of the training set for AFH Experimental results, show that the proposed NPT-AFM-based algerian can robustly track non-rigid objects in real-time.
Shape memory alloys(SMAs) exhibit pseudoelastic behavior, characterized by the recovery of an original shape even after severe deformation, during loading and unloading within appropriate temperature regimes. The distinctive mechanical behavior is associated with stress-induced transformation of austenite to martensite during loading and reverse transformation to austenite upon unloading. To develop a material model for SMAs, it is imperative to consider the difference in moduli of active phases. For example, the Young’s modulus of the martensite is one-third to one half of that of the austenite. The model proposed herein is a modification of the one proposed recently by Ho[17]. The prediction of the behavior of SMAs during unloading before the onset of reverse transformation was improved by introducing a new internal state variable incorporating the variation of the elastic modulus.
