For two input-protection schemes suitable for RF ICs utilizing the thyristor and diode protection devices, which can be fabricated in standard CMOS processes, we attempt an in-depth comparison on HBM ESD robustness in terms of lattice heating inside protection devices and peak voltages developed across gate oxides in input buffers, based on DC, mixed-mode transient, and AC analyses utilizing a 2-dimensional device simulator. For this purpose, we construct an equivalent circuit for an input HBM test environment of a CMOS chip equipped with the input ESD protection circuits, which allows mixed-mode transient simulations for various HBM test modes. By executing mixed-mode simulations including up to six active protection devices in a circuit, we attempt a detailed analysis on the problems, which can occur in real tests. In the procedure, we suggest to a recipe to ease the bipolar trigger in the protection devices and figure out that oxide failure in internal circuits is determined by the junction breakdown voltage of the NMOS structure residing in the protection devices. We explain the characteristic differences of two protection schemes as an input ESD protection circuit for RF ICs, and suggest valuable guidelines relating design of the protection devices and circuits.
In this paper. We tested and fabricated the error amplifier for the 15 Watt linear power amplifier for the IMT-2000 baseband station. The error amplifier was comprised of subtractor for detecting intermodulation distortion, variable attenuator for control amplitude, variable phase shifter for control phase, low power amplifier and high power amplifier. This component was designed on the RO4350 substrate and integrated the aluminum case with active biasing circuit. For suppression of spurious, the through capacitance was used. The characteristics of error amplifier measured up to 45 dB gain, $\pm$0.66 dB gain flatness and -15 dB input return loss. Results of application to the 15 Watt feedforward Linear Power Amplifier, the error amplifier improved with 27 dB cancellation from 34 dBc to 61 dBc IM$_3$.

This paper examines the design, implementation characteristics of a folded dipole active integrated antenna. Our goal was to minimize the physical size of RF circuit and its insertion loss, and to make the high frequency tuning easier by directly integrating the ISM(Industrial Scientific & Medical) band power amplifier and antenna. Non-linear model has been used for highly accurate simulation of the power amplifier. The maximum power level was found by using the Load pull method before an impedance matching was achieved. It is found that the total power-added efficiency(PAE) including the driving amplifier was 31.5% and that the transmit power was 13.7 dBm. We also found that the proposed scheme with the smaller antenna as compared with the existing dipole antenna has 23.7 dB total gain including the antenna gain. The suppression of the second harmonic signal to the fundamental signal with respect to the fundamental signal was found to be more than 30 dBc.

A highly efficient dual-mode linear CMOS stacked-FET power amplifier (PA) is implemented for 3G UMTS and 4G LTE handset applications. High efficiency is achieved at a backed-off output power ($P_{out}$) below 12 dBm by employing an active-bypass amplifier, which consumes very low quiescent current and has high load-impedance. The output paths between high- and low-power modes of the PA are effectively isolated by using a bypass switch, thus no RF performance degradation occurs at high-power mode operation. The fabricated 900 MHz CMOS PA using a silicon-on-insulator (SOI) CMOS process operates with an idle current of 5.5 mA and shows power-added efficiency (PAE) of 20.5%/43.5% at $P_{out}$ = 12.4 / 28.2 dBm while maintaining an adjacent channel leakage ratio (ACLR) better than -39 dBc, using the 3GPP uplink W-CDMA signal. The PA also exhibits PAE of 35.1% and $ACLR_{E-UTRA}$ of -33 dBc at $P_{out}$ = 26.5 dBm, using the 20 MHz bandwidth 16-QAM LTE signal.
The monopulse tracking algorithm can estimate the location of a partner station based on an RF (Radio Frequency) signal. The location of the partner station is estimated based on the monopulse ratio curve (MR-C), which is calculated based on the sum and difference signal patterns of an antenna. Therefore, the range in which the estimated location can be calculated with high accuracy increases in proportion to the linear region of MR-C. In this paper, we proposed a method to extend the linear region of the MR-C curve using the beamforming technique for the tracking antenna system using the active phased array antenna. Simulation results based on the same antenna system, it was confirmed that the linear region of MR-C was enlarged by about twice as much as the general case where the proposed method was not applied.

In this paper, a performance enhancement study of an AESA antenna that can be applied to a seeker that serves as the eye of a missile was conducted, and the performance of the antenna was verified through actual measurement. When designing an AESA antenna, the optimization of the active reflection coefficient must be considered during transmission due to the mutual coupling between radiators that inevitably occurs, and the selection of a radiator that can overcome the space limitation of the seeker with a small size/light weight is an important design consideration. Accordingly, optimization in terms of electrical performance and low-profile structure is required through research on array antennas for application to the AESA structure. The radiator designed and measured in this paper was designed as an SFN that can satisfy the low-profile structure while enhancing the performance of a general vivaldi antenna. Through this paper, it was confirmed that SFN has the same broadband characteristics as general vivaldi antennas and has optimized characteristics required for AESA antennas. The structure optimized through simulation confirmed the pattern characteristics and active reflection coefficient characteristics through the fabrication of actual proto-type antennas.

This paper presents design methods for dual-frequency(2.4/5.8GHz) active receiving antennas. The proposed active receiving antennas are designed to interconnect the output port of a wideband antenna to the input port of an active device of High Electron Mobility Transistor directly and to receive RF signals of 2.4GHz and 5.2GHz simultaneously where the impedance matching conditions are optimized by adjusting the length of $1/20{\lambda}_0$(@5.8GHz) CPW transmission line in the planar antenna The bandwidth of implemented dual-frequency active receiving antennas is measured in the range of 2.0GHz to 3.1GHz and 5.25GHz to 5.9GHz. Gains are measured of 17.0dB at 2.4GHz and 15.0dB at 5.2GHz. The measured noise figure is 1.5dB at operating frequencies.
Background: Aerobic cellular respiration provides chemical energy, adenosine triphosphate (ATP), to maintain multiple cellular functions. Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) can deacetylate peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1 alpha (PGC-1α) to promote mitochondrial biosynthesis. Targeting energy metabolism is a potential strategy for the prevention and treatment of various diseases, such as cardiac and neurological disorders. Ginsenosides, one of the major bioactive constituents of Panax ginseng, have been extensively used due to their diverse beneficial effects on healthy subjects and patients with different diseases. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of total ginsenosides (GS) on energy metabolism remain unclear. Methods: In this study, oxygen consumption rate, ATP production, mitochondrial biosynthesis, glucose metabolism, and SIRT1-PGC-1α pathways in untreated and GS-treated different cells, fly, and mouse models were investigated. Results: GS pretreatment enhanced mitochondrial respiration capacity and ATP production in aerobic respiration-dominated cardiomyocytes and neurons, and promoted tricarboxylic acid metabolism in cardiomyocytes. Moreover, GS clearly enhanced NAD+-dependent SIRT1 activation to increase mitochondrial biosynthesis in cardiomyocytes and neurons, which was completely abrogated by nicotinamide. Importantly, ginsenoside monomers, such as Rg1, Re, Rf, Rb1, Rc, Rh1, Rb2, and Rb3, were found to activate SIRT1 and promote energy metabolism. Conclusion: This study may provide new insights into the extensive application of ginseng for cardiac and neurological protection in healthy subjects and patients.
