The purpose of this study is to present a design proposal of the senior housing in the city of Kimje and design guidelines for making outdoor spaces for Korean elderly. To do this, this study examined previous research papers and scholastic writings, related to elderly housing, and analyzed study cases of elderly housing. As a result, design guidelines of outdoor spaces for elderly were classified 5 types. Entrance area of housing complex is subdivided into the condition of location, the entrance of housing complex, an access road, and a direction mark. Building entrance area is subdivided into an access and waiting area, a canopy facility, and the pattern and color of boundary. In & outdoor neutral area is subdivided into a spatial standard, a patio, and a terrace. Parking lots is subdivided into a spatial standard and an entrance access. Outdoor living area is subdivided into a spatial and social standard, the usage of movable chairs, a garden, a pocket park, a lawn area, a sports area, an active and passive sports area, a promenade, a lookout area and so on. In these study cases, outdoor living area is commonly located into a community space, a nature friendly space, a health & sports space, and an outlook space and it plays positive role to the elderly. However, versatile outdoor spaces such as horticultural therapy garden is needed, which can be able to stimulate the physical senses of the elderly. This proposal is meant to create new outdoor spaces of a senior housing and to enhance the way of life of elderly.
In order to achieve optimal reproductive performance, reliable morphological and physiological basic data on the reproductive organs are desirable. Adult male Korean ring-necked pheasant in inactive(mid of January) and active state (end of April) were used in this study. In addition, five active state pheasants were received a single dose of 60Co-ray 500 rads each to damage the testes. The objective of this study was to investigate the distribution pattern of protein gene product (PGP) 9.5 and ${\alpha}$-tubulin in the pheasant testes of the active, inactive and ${\gamma}$-ray irradiated active states. The results obtained were summarized as follows 1. The seminiferous tubules collected in inactive states( mid of Jan) showed narrow lumen, and the spermatogonia and the Sertoli cell were well preserved. The PGP 9.5 immunoreactivity of these tubules showed a positive reaction in paranucleus area of the spermatogonia, and a positive reaction in a small number of the Leydig cells in the interstitium of the seminiferous tubules. 2. The seminiferous tubules were dilated in active state(end of April) as compared with the inactive state. The PGP 9.5 reactivity in these tubules showed a positive reaction in many Leydig cells in the interstitium of the seminiferous tubules, and the testes of ${\gamma}$-ray irradiated group showed partially weak reaction in the interstitium of the seminiferous tubules. 3. The ${\alpha}$-tubulin reactivity in the seminiferous tubules of the inactive testes was strongly positive in the cytoplasmic process of the Sertoli cell from the basal stem region to the apical ex-tension. From the broad part of the stem region to the luminal space, the active testes showed a strong positive reaction. The ${\gamma}$-ray irradiated groups showed diminished reaction in the basal region.
This paper presents the technique separating objects on the single frame image from the background using region segmentation technique based on active contour. Active contour is to extract contours of objects from the image, which is set to have multi-search starting point to extract each objects contours for multi-object segmentation. Initial rough object segments are generated from binary-coded image using object specific contour information, and then the hole filling is performed to compensate internal segmentation caused by the change of inner object hole area and pixels. This procedure complements the problems caused by the noise from the region segmentation and the errors of segmentation near by the contour. The proposed method and conventional method is compared to verify the superiority of the proposed method.
We investigated the activation of the cerebral cortex during active movement, passive movement, and functional electrical stimulation (FES), which was provided on wrist extensor muscles. A functional magnetic resonance imaging study was performed on 5 healthy volunteers. Tasks were the extension of right wrist by active movement, passive movement, and FES at the rate of .5 Hz. The regions of interest were measured in primary motor cortex (M1), primary somatosensory cortex (SI), secondary somatosensory cortex (SII), and supplementary motor area (SMA). We found that the contralateral SI and SII were significantly activated by all of three tasks. The additional activation was shown in the areas of ipsilateral S1 (n=2), and contralateral (n=1) or ipsilateral (n=2) SII, and bilateral SMA (n=3) by FES. Ipsilateral M1 (n=1), and contralateral (n=1) or ipsilateral SII (n=1), and contralateral SMA (n=1) were activated by active movement. Also, Contralateral SMA (n=3) was activated by passive movement. The number of activated pixels on SM1 by FES ($12{\pm}4$ pixels) was smaller than that by active movement ($18{\pm}4$ pixels) and nearly the same as that by passive movement ($13{\pm}4$ pixels). Findings reveal that active movement, passive movement, and FES had a direct effect on cerebral cortex. It suggests that above modalities may have the potential to facilitate brain plasticity, if applied with the refined-specific therapeutic intervention for brain-injured patients.

Background: Inactive or old, healed tuberculosis (TB) on chest radiograph (CR) is often found in high TB incidence countries, and to avoid unnecessary evaluation and medication, differentiation from active TB is important. This study develops a deep learning (DL) model to estimate activity in a single chest radiographic analysis. Methods: A total of 3,824 active TB CRs from 511 individuals and 2,277 inactive TB CRs from 558 individuals were retrospectively collected. A pretrained convolutional neural network was fine-tuned to classify active and inactive TB. The model was pretrained with 8,964 pneumonia and 8,525 normal cases from the National Institute of Health (NIH) dataset. During the pretraining phase, the DL model learns the following tasks: pneumonia vs. normal, pneumonia vs. active TB, and active TB vs. normal. The performance of the DL model was validated using three external datasets. Receiver operating characteristic analyses were performed to evaluate the diagnostic performance to determine active TB by DL model and radiologists. Sensitivities and specificities for determining active TB were evaluated for both the DL model and radiologists. Results: The performance of the DL model showed area under the curve (AUC) values of 0.980 in internal validation, and 0.815 and 0.887 in external validation. The AUC values for the DL model, thoracic radiologist, and general radiologist, evaluated using one of the external validation datasets, were 0.815, 0.871, and 0.811, respectively. Conclusion: This DL-based algorithm showed potential as an effective diagnostic tool to identify TB activity, and could be useful for the follow-up of patients with inactive TB in high TB burden countries.
The present study aims at proposing an analytical method for semi-active structural control by using block pulse functions. The performance of the resulting controlled system and the requirements of the control devices are highly dependent on the control algorithm employed. In control problems, it is important to devise an accurate analytical method with less computational expenses. Block pulse functions (BPFs) set proved to be the most fundamental and it enjoyed immense popularity in different applications in the area of numerical analysis in systems science and control. This work focused on the application of BPFs in the control algorithm concerning decrease the computational expenses. Variable orifice dampers (VODs) are one of the common semi-active devices that can be used to control the response of civil Structures during seismic loads. To prove the efficiency of the proposed method, numerical simulations for a 10-story shear building frame equipped with VODs are presented. The controlled response of the frame was compared with results obtained by controlling the frame by the classical clipped-optimal control method based on linear quadratic regulator theory. The simulation results of this investigation indicated the proposed method had an acceptable accuracy with minor computational expenses and it can be advantageous in reducing seismic responses.
Self-organization of distributed wireless sensor nodes is a critical issue in wireless sensor networks (WSNs), since each sensor node has limited energy, bandwidth, and scalability. These issues prevent sensor nodes from actively collaborating with the other types of sensor nodes deployed in a typical heterogeneous and somewhat hostile environment. The automated self-organization of a WSN becomes more challenging as the number of sensor nodes increases in the network. In this paper, we propose a dynamic self-organized architecture that combines tree topology with a drawn-grid algorithm to automate the self-organization process for WSNs. In order to make our proposed architecture scalable, we assume that all participating active sensor nodes are unaware of their primary locations. In particular, this paper presents two algorithms called active-tree and drawn-grid. The proposed active-tree algorithm uses a tree topology to assign node IDs and define different roles to each participating sensor node. On the other hand, the drawn-grid algorithm divides the sensor nodes into cells with respect to the radio coverage area and the specific roles assigned by the active-tree algorithm. Thus, both proposed algorithms collaborate with each other to automate the self-organizing process for WSNs. The numerical and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed dynamic architecture performs much better than a static architecture in terms of the self-organization of wireless sensor nodes and energy consumption.

We studied on the reverse twist near the pixel edge depending on the rubbing direction for the fringe field switching (FFS) mode. Liquid crystal (LC) dynamic and the transmittance near the pixel edge, where the various field directions are generated, depend on the initial rubbing direction because the position of reverse twist is decided by the angle between the electric direction and the LC director at a bias voltage. For example, when the rubbing angle is $7^{\circ}$, the reverse twist appears on the bottom position of the right sharp comer of the pixel edge so that the reverse region exists far away from main active region. But, when the rubbing angle is $-7^{\circ}$, the reverse twist appears on the top position of the right sharp comer of the pixel edge, resulting that the region becomes more close to the main active area and the unstable disclination lines (DLs) easily intrude into the active region. Therefore, it is necessary to keep the reverse twist region far from the active region and it is possible by controlling the rubbing direction in the design of a pixel electrode.
One of the most important factors so that mobile objects can achieve their purpose is the information about their positions. In this paper, we propose an improved beacon system, to which ultrasonic sensors are attached, for the indoor localization of mobile objects. We have researched so that it can cover the wider space and estimate more accurate positions than the existent beacon systems. The existent beacon systems have the constraint that one beacon cannot cover wide area since ultrasonic sensors have limits in the angle of signal (beam-angle) on which their signal strength depends. Hence, we used the active beacon which consists of a pan-tilt mechanism and a beacon module. The active beacon system can always aim at mobile objects in order to transmit the strongest signal of the ultrasonic sensors into the objects using the pan-tilt mechanism. In addition, this system is inexpensive because it can decrease the number of beacons by about a half of the beacons of the existent system. Finally, the results show what is the difference between the active beacon system and existent beacon systems, and how accurate it is.
This study was intended to probe the scheme for correctly making Korean fashion design known to the world. It is because its suggestion could find out in the current influence of Japanese designer works led to fashion in Europe and the U.S. It can be said that this success was attributed to Japanese high economic growth, increased interests in fashion, increased awareness of the fashion industry, production of designers activity in the world area, systematic and active support of the fashion circles and government for the fashion industry and so on. Korean government has recently begun to attempt to nurture Koreanism or Korean look as world-class fashion. But there are a considerable number of obstacles in making Koreanism or Korean look known to the world due to such several factors as the lack of interests in fashion, the lack of globally active designers, and the like. It is necessary to nurture the fashion industry and educate and train designers for the long-term perspective. In addition, both the government and the fashion circles need to provide for more active and reasonable policy for holding the Korean Fashion Fair, expanding the Seoul Collection to the more global level, opening the way for new designers, and so forth. Furthermore, our academic circles need to make much research on the scheme for the glottalization of Koreanism or Korean look.
