This research was conducted to make suggestions for the promotion of research activities in the Life Sciences field, and we evaluated the research funding trend and the present status of research funding offered by KOSEF in this field. Researchers in this field have received more research funding from the group-based programme than from the individual-based programme. Also, they have received less money (per project) than did researchers in other Science and Technology fields. The portion of research funds given to the Medical Sciences fields has markedly increased year by year, whereas the portion of funding given to the Agricultural Sciences and Biological Sciences fields has decreased annually. To encourage research activities in the Life Sciences field in Korea, the following actions and systems are required: 1) formulation of a mid-and a long-term research master plan, 2) development of a database on man power in related fields, 3) activation of top-down research topics, and associated increase of individual research grants, 4) development of special national programs for basic researches in Life Sciences, 5) organization of a committee for policy and planning within related societies, and 6) system development for fair evaluation of the results of research activities.
Seosan-Daesan Port is the sixth largest port in Korea, and it promotes port infrastructure expansion, regular route development, overseas marketing, and port incentive systems for continuous growth. In addition, the port is planning to open a regular car ferry line to Weihai, China. This study aims to provide useful research data for effective decision making by analyzing the feasibility of opening the Chinese (Weihai) car ferry route of Seosan-Daesan Port. Currently, some car ferry routes that operate between Korea and China are open at Incheon Port, the Port of Pyeongtaek-Dangjin, and the Port of Gunsan. In order to estimate the volume of cargo that will be created when the car ferry route from Seosan-Daesan Port to Weihai opens, this research analyzes the domestic cargo volume from the Chungcheongnam-do region, where Seosan-Daesan Port is located, to each of the regions where the other ports are located. We estimated the volume of cargo that can be transported on the car ferry from Seosan-Daesan Port to Weihai. As a result, by 2020, about 76,000 passengers and about 50,000 tons of cargo could be created. Suggestions were made for policy strategies that would revitalize passenger numbers and secure the cargo volume of the car ferry, along with a discussion of and the port incentive system.

Up to the present point in time, the level diagnosis system for urban reactivation have utilized various methods for establishment and management in Korea and overseas, such as city competitiveness evaluation, urban decay diagnosis, etc. However, contrary to performing diagnosis and evaluations on general cities in existing studies, it is found to be a very complex and difficult task to perform a diagnosis on the level of U-City due to its unique characteristics. It is difficult to determine the level of a U-City using a level diagnosis system used for general cities because a U-City is comprised of a connection/fusion of various structural elements. Therefore, in order to perform a systematic diagnosis of a U-City, it is necessary to primarily observe the structural characteristics of a U-city to derive a diagnosis system based on the relativity between each structural element. This study aims to propose a directivity of a U-City level diagnosis system in comprehensive consideration of various elements, such as the objective of a U-City, as well as the structural elements that compose a U-City based on the definitions prescribed in U-City legislations, including ubiquitous city planning, ubiquitous city infrastructure, ubiquitous city technology, services, etc. The results of this study are expected to provide a resolution for the regional quality differences of U-Cities, and also establish a stepping-stone for the realization of U-Cities with high degree of completion.
The main purpose of this study was to find out the actual status of safety and heal th education activities in the manufacturing industries through survey of 136 plants in Seoul City and Gyunggi- Province Area which employ nurses being charged in the safety and health care services to the employees. A questionaire was mailed to the employees on the Mar. 2, 1987. Total 634 responds from 87 industries were collected by Apr. 20, 1987. Among the total, 618 responds from 80 industries were included in the analysis. The major findings obtainded from this study are summarized as follows; 1. Safety and health education activities in each industry: 1) The $67.6\%$ of safety directors surveyed were performing the education to the employees. And in case of medical directors, it was $18.8\%$ of them. 2) Periodically, annual safety' and health education programs were being drawn up in the $65.0\%$ of the industries (52 companies). And the $60.6\%$ of the planners were safety directors of safety staffs in charge. 3) It was only $27.5\%$ of the companies surveyed in which the safety and health education were performed more than an hour every month. In the $22.5\%$ of the companies, neither safety programs nor health education activities were performed. 4) In the $47.5\%$ of them, safety and health educations were performed in cooperation with related agencies such as health center. 2. The rate of employees participated in safety and health educations; 1) The received rates by subjects of the educations when labors were newly employed to their companies were as follows; education regarding danger and profer handling method of machinery and appliances: $64.2\%$, education regarding noxiousness and handling method of raw materials: $42.2\%$, etc. 2) The $63.6\%$ of the labors received educations on safety and health when they changed their work places. 3) The $74.8\%$ of the labors received specific safety and health educations. 4) The general safety and health educations were received by the $47.2\%$ of management and clerical personnel and $50.0\%$ of labors pre and post physical examination. 3. The main reasons of inactive performance of the educations were as follows; lack of knowledge and inexperience of the occupational safety and health staffs, lack of cooperations between themselves and low need of workers for safety and health education, etc. 4. The preferable subjects of educations for workers; (1) pre and post education of physical examination, (2) education regarding the prevention of accidents. (3) general health care, sex education and family planning, etc. As a result of this study, we can conclude that the safety and health education work in industries as the subject of this study is on the incipient stage. Appropriate measures are to be taken for the activation of safety and health education work such as; continuous public relations, financial and technical supports of the government, training of professional/occupational safety and health staffs, efforts of workers to receive the education and collaborations of the employers.
This study is important in its focus to find key clues in the marketing strategy, consumer behavior, and communication processes that define the infantile obesity market. The study, the first of its kind, surveyed a target audience, purchasing group, and housewives in their quest to determine purchasing decisions and effective branding strategy planning for the infantile obesity market. Another key component of the study was to focus on the key direct and/or indirect distribution channels for the subject market. Recently, obesity has emerged as a major social concern; some studies show that the onslaught of an adverse eating culture in Korea emanates from the prevalence of fast-food dining establishments. Obesity among children leads to adult obesity, especially if the young people's parents are overweight; notably, if either one or both of the parents are obese, the percentage of young people eventually being obese is approximately 80 to 85 percent. Because obesity is the cause of many major health concerns later in life, the struggle for a healthy life is considerably adversely affected by parents' consumer behavior. Infantile obesity, resulting in adult obesity, is also an important national economic and social issue. The sizable direct and indirect economic costs, as well as the tremendous social costs of obesity, cannot be overstated. Effective food branding and advertising centered on food preferences and dietary behaviors, especially to children, creates an effective marketing effort that, ultimately, leads to positive results. Thus, the purpose of this study is to demonstrate that the treatment of childhood obesity in Korea, through the activation of a brand and retail market, can effectively solve social and economic problems that result from infantile and childhood obesity. In this study, obesity markets and distribution channels in the purchase decision-making factors determining factor based on it effective inspection and branding strategies and brand marketing communications strategy proposed measures contribute to the obesity drug market and further enable the childhood obesity problem is intended to assist in solving.
The purpose of this research is to promote traditional markets, which are part of urban regeneration project, and to promote cultural and tourism market by applying characteristics and differentiated elements through story development through market-related resources in order to secure identity of the JeCheon Central market that lost function of the traditional market and regional aging of the traditional market. To this end, the basic survey and analysis of the Jecheon area and the current situation of the Jecheon Central Market were conducted to diagnose problems and to analyze keywords through surveys by local merchants and visitors. By drawing up measures to vitalize the Jecheon Central Market by floor and space, the Jecheon Central Market's design story is developed and applied so that it can restore the image of the local traditional market through regional and cultural elements and become a center of space and culture that can become a landmark for the region in the future. The storytelling designed for this purpose shall be linked to the spatial planning of each floor as well as the C.I. and exterior of the C.I. and the building of the Jecheon Central Market, and the identity of the Jecheon Central Market can be reestablishe.

The City-to-City cooperation(C2C) in Korea has been made by economic needs based on industrial conditions. However, now it is necessary to cover environmental and social aspects as well as economic in order to respond to the realization of the international value, the domestic demands, and the changing comprehensive conditions. In particular, inter city cooperation is important because the efforts for solving environmental problems are impossible individually in each local government. In Korea, C2C have promoted in various ways by complex interests between cities. C2C build a creative environment by catalysis in the process of exchanges between different cities. And its purpose and the process and results appeared in environmental, social and economic sustainability of the green city. Therefore, this study analyze the C2C cases in Korea by pursuing value types. The purpose of this study is awaken to the importance of C2C and seek a direction for its successful realization and activation. The result of this study can be a guide for the success of C2C.
This study began with the purpose of awakening an interest in Korean Nu-jung and seeking application plan based on Nu-jung of Aneuisamdong. Also it intends to suggest activation plan of Nu-jung while using the culture of taste for the arts and classical scholar of ancestors with the physical place named Nu-jung as the medium. As concrete ways to activate Nu-jung, we suggested plans which use the game of go(Baduk), main material of the culture of taste for the arts and classical scholar, and increase availability by planning a program adding picturesqueness of Nu-jung. By bringing the material named the game of go(Baduk) to the place named Nu-jung, we suggested the plan capable of experiencing the culture of taste for the arts and classical scholar and also expecting local promotion and economical effect. And the plan is to design and conduct night program, 1 night 2 days program, tailored program, and so on by combining the material of the culture of taste for the arts and classical scholar with the medium named 'Dal(the moon)' in the static place named Nu-jung. The plans above are applicable to most of Nu-jung scattered all over the country, which means that we have a lot of Nu-jung in Korea and, at the same time, we have abundant contents to be used as cultural properties. Now it's important how to develop and use these contents through the connection with various academic fields in terms of managing cultural properties. By understanding the value of the original form of culture while emerging from simply using cultural properties, we can use cultural properties in a higher level. For this, preserving cultural properties should be supported by continuous interdisciplinary study.
In order to implement smart cities that will become living spaces in the fourth industrial revolution era, detailed privacy information such as residents' living information, buildings and facilities information must be collected and processed in real time. While city functions and convenience for individuals are being facilitated, threats to personal information exposure and leakage are also likely to increase at the same time. Therefore, the design concept for personal information protection should be considered and accordingly reflected from the stages of smart city design, technology development and operation planning of intelligent information (AI) facilities. The results of the analysis show that for activation of smart cities and operation of data-driven cities, the concept of Privacy by Design (PbD) has already been introduced in the institutional, industrial and technological aspects, particularly in the cases of European countries and the US. In order to strengthen the local and global competitiveness of smart cities and the country, Korea also needs to actively deploy PbD as a strategy to secure a data-driven economy, which is the core strategy for smart cities. Therefore, the study suggests policy implications focused on approaches to legislative improvement and technology development support, which reflect the basic properties of PbD as defined in the study.
The purpose of this study is to explore the methods to activate and functional changes of rural centers to improve residents' quality of life and secure sustainability in rural areas. The existing policy for activating rural centers lacks for placeness because walking-focused features of a Myeon seat have been changed due to the improvement of physical environment for easy car accessibility. They also wanted to solve abandoned houses and secure parking lots in the landscape plan. Based on analysis results, design guidelines were suggested. Long-stay tourism programs for outside visitors should be developed through the rural center activation project. They should be linked with projects for preserving the history of Byeongyeong Fortress and developing Hamel Village. Mountain trails and waterfront should be created to enhance accessibility and linkage methods with other resources should be prepared. As Byeongyeong-myeon has various tourism resources, design guidelines for each element should be made for a macroscopic direction and systematic landscape management.
