There are various types of foreign body reactions, such as inflammation, edema, fluid collection, hematoma, infection, abscess and granulomas. There are various imaging findings according to types of foreign bodies and depending on the lapse of time. Therefore, correct diagnosis of a foreign body reaction is difficult and easily confused with soft tissue neoplasm. The MRI is ideal for the detection of foreign bodies regardless of radiolucency or acoustic impedance. It is especially very useful in the evaluation of the surrounding tissue reaction. The authors report a case of a 26-year-old female patient with both forearm swelling due to self-injection of a mixture of powdered tablets and saline. The lesion shows numerous internal T1 and T2 dark signal intensity micro-spots with surrounding fluid collection, which are diagnosed as foreign bodies with surrounding inflammatory changes during an operation.

Impact from water-borne debris during tsunami and flood events pose a potential threat to structures. Debris impact forces specified by current codes and standards are based on rigid body dynamics, leading to forces that are dependent on total debris mass. However, shipping containers and other debris are unlikely to be rigid compared to the walls, columns and other structures that they impact. The application of a simple one-dimensional model to obtain impact force magnitude and duration, based on acoustic wave propagation in a flexible projectile, is explored. The focus herein is on in-air impact. Based on small-scale experiments, the applicability of the model to predict actual impact forces is investigated. The tests show that the force and duration are reasonably well represented by the simple model, but they also show how actual impact differs from the ideal model. A more detailed three-dimensional finite element model is also developed to understand more clearly the physical phenomena involved in the experimental tests. The tests and the FE results reveal important characteristics of actual impact, knowledge of which can be used to guide larger scale experiments and detailed modeling. The one-dimensional model is extended to consider water-driven debris as well. When fluid is used to propel the 1-D model, an estimate of the 'added mass' effect is possible. In this extended model the debris impact force depends on the wave propagation in the two media, and the conditions under which the fluid increases the impact force are discussed.

This work investigates the influence of water compressibility on pressure pulsations induced by rotor-stator interaction (RSI) in hydraulic machinery, using the commercial CFD solver ANSYS-CFX. A pipe flow example with harmonic velocity excitation at the inlet plane is simulated using different grid densities and time step sizes. Results are compared with a validated code for hydraulic networks (SIMSEN). Subsequently, the solution procedure is applied to a simplified 2.5-dimensional pump-turbine configuration in prototype with different speeds of sound as well as in model scale with an adapted speed of sound. Pressure fluctuations are compared with numerical and experimental data based on prototype scale. The good agreement indicates that the scaling of acoustic effects with an adapted speed of sound works well. With respect to pressure fluctuation amplitudes along the centerline of runner channels, incompressible solutions exhibit a linear decrease while compressible solutions exhibit sinusoidal distributions with maximum values at half the channel length, coinciding with analytical solutions of one-dimensional acoustics. Furthermore, in compressible simulation the amplification of pressure fluctuations is observed from the inlet of stay vane channels to the spiral case wall. Finally, the procedure is applied to a three-dimensional pump configuration in model scale with adapted speed of sound. Normalized Pressure fluctuations are compared with results from prototype measurements. Compared to incompressible computations, compressible simulations provide similar pressure fluctuations in vaneless space, but pressure fluctuations in spiral case and penstock may be much higher.

Varieties of research on turbulent-induced noise is conducted with combinations of acoustic analogy methods and computational fluid dynamic methods to analyze efficiently and accurately. Application of FW-H acoustic analogy without turbulent noise is the most popular method due to its calculation cost. In this paper, turbulent-induced noise is predicted using RANS turbulence model and permeable FW-H method. For simplicity, noise from 2D cylinder is examined using three different methods, direct method of RANS, FW-H method without turbulent noise and permeable FW-H method which can take into account of turbulent-induced noise. Turbulent noise was well predicted using permeable FW-H method with same computational cost of original FW-H method. Also, ability of permeable FW-H method to predict highly accurate turbulent-induced noise by applying adequate permeable surface is presented. The procedure to predict turbulent-induced noise using permeable FW-H is established and its usability is shown.

Guided wave technology is advantageous for fast inspection of pipe wall thinning since the guided wave propagates long distance. In this investigation, the method to evaluate gradual wall thinning in a pipe based on the arrival time delay with magnetostrictive patch transducers is presented. Low frequency A0 Lamb waves were generated and measured by the present transducer and it was applied to arrival time delay measurement experiments on a test pipe having gradual wall thinnings artificially manufactured. From experiments, consistent results that wall thinning increases the arrival time delay of A0 waves were obtained. Consequently, the feasibility of the magnetostrictive patch transducers to evaluate wall thinning was verified.

Aerodynamic sounds generated by a uniform flow around a two-dimensional circular cylinder at Re=150 are simulated by applying the finite difference lattice Boltzmann method. Thethird-order-accurate up-wind scheme (UTOPIA) is used for the spatial derivatives, and the second-order-accurate Runge-Kutta scheme is applied for the time marching. We have succeed in capturing very small pressure fluctuations with the same frequency of the Karman vortex street compared with the pressure fluctuation around a circular cylinder. The propagation velocity of the acoustic waves shows that the points of peak pressure are biased upstream due to the Doppler effect in the uniform flow. For the downstream, on the other hand, it is faster. It is also apparent that the amplitude of sound pressure is proportional to r /sup -1/2/,r being the distance from the center of the circular cylinder. To investigate the effect of the lattice dependence, furthermore, 2D computations of the tone noises radiated by a square cylinder and NACA0012 with a blunt trailing edge at high incidence and low Reynolds number are also investigate.
In order to consider the sediment layer's effect to total acoustic field, we composed a 3 layered fluid model of 2 sediment layers by adding an additional layer to the Pekeris model and found solutions by using Green's function, boundary conditions and Sommerfeld radiation condition. The modes were divided into discrete modes and virtual modes, and confirmed that the characteristic equation to find discrete modes was same as that of Tolstoy and Clay for normal modes. Also, we confirmed that under similar conditions the 3 layered model showed same results as that of Pekeris model. We believe this 3 layered model can be used to study the sediment's effect on the virtual mode of near field.

Drilling is one of the most important operations in machining industry and usually the most efficient and economical method of cutting a hole in metal. From automobile parts to aircraft components, almost every manufactured product requires that holes are to be drilled for the purpose of assembly, creation of fluid passages, and so on. It is therefore desirable to monitor drill wear and hole quality changes during the hole drilling process. One important aspect in controlling the drilling process is drill wear status monitoring. With the monitoring, we may decide on optimal timing for tool change. The necessity of the detection of tool wear, fracture and the abnormal tool state has been emphasized in the machining process. Accordingly, this paper deals with the cutting characteristics of the hot-rolled high strength steels using common HSS drill. The performance variables include drill wear data obtained from drilling experiments conducted on the workpiece. The results are obtained from monitoring of the cutting force and Acoustic Emission (AE) signals, and from the detection of the abnormal tool state with the computer vision system.
should be in English, A make out an economical, reliable and easy to adoptable instrument in turbine discharge measurement was restricted from lots of it's foundational condition. Not with standing the brilliant progress in new technology of these day, useful instrument for flow measurement in turbine is still ongoing. Nowaday, the increasing importance of renewable energy makes it more important that the measuring turbine efficiency as a decision making index of old turbines' replacement. In Turbine performance diagnosis, Kwater(Korea Water Corporation) got an enough ability and decent reputation for who has invested lots of time and effort for buildup and development. In Korea as a public corporation who should take a crucial roll in Turbine business, Kwater has introduced some developed new technology for other domestic concerned one. With this writing, I'd like to introduce ASFM system as a newly developed instrument that can cope with lots restriction in discharge measurement in turbine. Kwater adopted the system in 2005, and performed 2 times of trial test. The test result was good enough to use the system as a reference test method.
This paper demonstrates a computational method in predicting aerodynamic noise generated from wind turbines. Low frequency noise due to displacement of fluid and leading fluctuation, according to the blade passing motion, is modelled on monopole and dipole sources. They are predicted by Farassat 1A equation. Airfoil self noise and turbulence ingestion noise are modelled upon quadrupole sources and are predicted by semi-empirical formulas composed on the groundwork of Brooks et al. and Lowson. Aerodynamic flow in the vicinity of the blade should be obtained first, while noise source modelling need them as numerical inputs. Vortex Lattice Method(VLM) is used to compute aerodynamic conditions near blade. In the use of program X-foil [M.Drela] boundary layer characteristics are calculated to obtain airfoil self noise. Wind turbine blades are divided into spanwise unit panels, and each panel is considered as an independent source. Retarded time is considered, not only in low frequency noise but also In turbulence ingestion noise and airfoil self noise prediction. Numerical modelling is validated with measurement from NREL [AOC15/50 Turbine) and ETSU [Markham's VS45] wind turbine noise measurements.
