Processing Condition of Seasoning Material of the Mixture of Laminaria and Enzyme-Treated Mackerel Meat (다시마와 효소처리 고등어육을 이용한 조미소재의 제조 조건)

  • In order to develop a new type of natural seasoning material combining fish meat with seaweed, a processing method of the mixture of enzyme treated mackerel meat and Laminaria powder was studied. Mackerel meat previously boiled and deboned was treated with proteolytic enzyme to enhance taste of meat by proper hydrolysis. The enzyme-treated meat was dried at $100{\pm}2^{\circ}C$ for 4 hrs, and finally mixed with kelp power, moistened in advance, plus binding agents (0.02% calcium carbonate) to aid the formation of pellets by extrusion. Boiled mackerel meat of enzyme treated (0.03% Protease-A) at $50^{\circ}C$ for 90 min was adequate to result an increase in 6 times of total free amino acid content and about 10% increase of taste-enhancing amino acids such as glutamic acid, glycine, arginine, lysine.

Physicochemical Changes in Fermented Skate (Raja kenojei) Treated with Organic Acids During Storage (유기산 처리 숙성홍어의 저장 중 이화학적 특성)

  • Fermented skate has a unique ammonia-like flavor. The flavor is preferred by a few lovers of skate muscle, while women and young people may be sensitive to the odor. Organic acids were used to reduce the ammonia-like odor in fermented skate and to investigate the physicochemical properties. Fermented skate muscles were sprayed with 20 mL of acetic acid or citric acid (3, 5, and 7%) for 30 seconds and stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for 15 days. The physicochemical properties of organic acid-treated fermented skate were investigated during storage. The control, which was treated with distilled water, showed a higher pH value than the samples treated with organic acids. The $L^*$ value increased with increasing organic acid concentration, while the $a^*$ and $b^*$ values were not significantly different among the samples. The trimethylamine (TMA) decreased with increasing in the organic acid concentration, but it was not significantly different after 9 days of storage. Ammonia-type nitrogen and ammonia-like flavoring, decreased with increasing in the organic acid concentration, whereas ammonia-type nitrogen increased with a storage period more than 6 days. In conclusion, fermented skate treated with 7% citric acid was the best treatment to reduce the ammonia-like odor.

Accelerated and restrained effects of gibberellic acid on the growth of Chlorella (Chlorella의 생장에 미치는 gibberellic acid의 촉진 및 억제효과)

  • This investigation was proceeded to define the effects of gibberellic acid on the growth of Chlorella by determining the contents of chlorphyll and changes in various components in Chlorella cells according to the concentration of treated GA. The growth of Chlorella was accelerated with telative low concentrations of GA(10, 40 ppm) and was restrained with relative high concentrations of GA(70, 100, 200 ppm). The synthetic ability of chlorophyll of GA was inhibited generally in proportion to the concentration of treated-GA and the higher the concentration of GA was applied, the longer time was required in the restoration. The contents of RNA, protein and soluble carbohydrate were increased PCA-soluble amino acid and polysacharide were decreased in those cell components between the accelerated and restrained group. Consequently, the effect on accelerated growth in relative low concentrations of GA is considered to be caused by the powerful effet on expansion growth of GA. It is presumed that the effect of restrained growth in relative high concentrations of GA is due to the inhibitory effect on the chlorophyll synthesis.

Effects of cholane compounds on the development of morphine tolerance

  • The present study was undertaken to determine the inhibitory effects of cholane compounds, unsodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) and chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) on the development of morphine-induced tolerance and physical dependence, and also to determine the hepatic glutathione contents. UDCA and CDCA inhibited the development of morphine-induced tolerance and physical dependence significantly. UDCA inhibited the hepatic glutathione decrease induced by morphine multiple injections, while this effect was not observed in CDCA treated mice. It was throught that the inhibitory effects of hepatic glutathione decrease in morphine-treated mice by UDCA and CDCA showed a tendency of inhibitory effects of development of morphine tolerance and dependence.

Electrochemical Properties of EDLC Electrodes Prepared by Acid and Heat Treatment of Commercial Activated Carbons

  • The commercial activated carbons are typically prepared by activation from coconut shell char or coal char containing lots of inorganic impurities. They also have pore structure and pore size distribution depending on nanostructure of precursor materials. In this study, two types of commercial activated carbons were applied for EDLC electrode by removing impurities with acid treatments, and controlling pore size distribution and contents of functional group with heat treatment. The effect of the surface functional groups on electrochemical performance of the activated carbon electrodes was investigated. The initial gravimetric and volumetric capacitance of coconut based activated carbon electrode which was acid treated by $HNO_3$ and then heat treated at $800^{\circ}C$ were 90 F/g and 42 F/cc respectively showing 94% of charge-discharge efficiency. Such a good electrochemical performance can be possibly applied to the medium capacitance of EDLC.

The Role of Lipid Peroxidation and Glutathione on the Glycochenodeoxycholic Acid-Induced Cell Death in Primary Cultured Rat Hepatocytes

  • Intracellular accumulation of bile acids in the hepatocytes during cholestasis is thought to be pathogenic in cholestatic liver diseases. The objective of this study was to determine the role of lipid peroxidation and glutathione on the bile acid-induced hepatic cell death mechanism in primary cultured rat hepatocytes. To induce hepatic cell death, we incubated primary cultured rat hepatocytes with glycochenodeoxycholic acid $(GCDC;\;0{\sim}400\;{\mu}M)$ for 3 hours. In electron microscopic examination and agarose gel electrophoresis, low concentration of GCDC treatment mainly induced apoptotic feature. Whereas $400\;{\mu}M$ GCDC treated cells demonstrated both apoptosis and necrosis. Lipid peroxidation was increased dose-dependently in GCDC treated hepatocyte. And this was also accompanied by decreased glutathione. Therefore, oxygen free radical damage may play a partial role in GCDC-induced hepatic cell death.

  • The ethyl acetate fraction of Uncariae Ramulus et Uncus, which showed anticonvulsant effects against pentylenetetrazole (PTZ) treated mice, were subjected to column chromatography to isolate ursolic acid and hyperin from active eluate. Hyperin decreased the elevated activities of GABA-T and xanthine oxidase and lipid peroxide level dose-dependently in PTZ treated mice brain tissue in vitro, but no effect on superoxide dismutase activity. The effects on such enzyme and component seemed to be related with biosynthesis or metabolism of neurotransmitters.

Effect of Surface Modification Process Conditions on Properties of Aramid Paper (아라미드 종이의 특성에 대한 표면 개질 과정 조건의 영향)

  • Surface modification of meta-aramid fibers was performed by phosphoric acid treatment. Surface morphology and element composition of untreated and treated fibers were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Effects of surface modification on the mechanical strength of aramid papers made from meta-aramid fibers and fibrid were investigated. Surface modification conditions were optimized by response surface analysis (RSA). Results show that phosphoric acid treatment increases the surface roughness and oxygen content of aramid fibers. They improve the interface bonding strength between aramid fibers and fibrid, which improves the tensile strength of aramid papers. The results of response surface analysis indicate that the tensile strength of aramid papers increases by 47.5% and reaches the maximum when meta-aramid fibers are treated with 21.1wt% phosphoric acid solution at $39.3^{\circ}C$ for 36.7 min.

Acid and Base Properties of Chemical-Treated Natural Zeolite

  • To study the acid and base properties of chemical-treated natural zeolite, FT-IR analysis was performed by the adsorption of pyridne and pyrrole and thermo-gravimetric analysis was done by the adsorption of NH$_{3}$. These solid catalysts have two acid sites, which are related to the Bronsted and Lewis acid sites, respectively. HIC-treatment led to the increased acidity and the maintained basicity.Acidity of NaHO-treatment samples also increased with thr NaOH-treatment but basicity decreased. The p-xylene selectivity on the chemical-treatment zelite was higher than that on the untreated zeolite.

  • Wool fabrics were treated with dichloro isocyanuric acid (DCCA) and dyed with acid dyes (C.I. Acid Red 18), and then, they were treated by sputter etching. Wool fabrics had been sputtered with aluminium under various conditions such as sputter etching time and discharge power in the presence of argon gas. We compared mechanical properties, colour difference and fastness properties of these samples one another: Mechanical properties and colour difference of sputtered wool fabrics changed by sputter etching time, discharge power and DCCA concentration. Light fastness showed a rising tendency but rubbing fastness showed a downward tendency when sputter etching time was 7 minutes.
