While new information technology advances have made information access and acquisition methods much more diverse and easier, there are side effects that allow illegal access using diverse and high-performance tools. In order to cope with such threats, there are access control methods in database technology, and various studies are being conducted to extend traditional access control to cope with new computing environments. In this paper, we propose an extended access control with uncertain context-awareness. It enables appropriate security policy enforcement even if the contextual constraints specified by the security policy does not match those accompanied by access request query. We extract semantic implications from context tree, and define the argument that can quantitatively measure the semantic difference between two nodes in the context tree. It is used to semantically enforce the security policy, and to prevent the excessive authorization caused by the implication.

Multi-dimensional data play a crucial role in various fields, as like computer graphics, geographical information system, and multimedia applications. Indexing method fur multi-dimensional data Is a very Important factor in overall system performance. What is proposed in this paper is a new dynamic access method for spatial objects called HL-CIF(Hierarchically Layered Caltech Intermediate Form) tree which requires small amount of storage space and facilitates efficient query processing. HL-CIF tree is a combination of hierarchical management of spatial objects and CIF tree in which spatial objects and sub-regions are associated with representative points. HL-CIF tree adopts "centroid" of spatial objects as the representative point. By reflecting objects′sizes and positions in its structure, HL-CIF tree guarantees the high spatial locality of objects grouped in a sub-region rendering query processing more efficient.

In this paper, we propose an efficient index mechanism for real-time main memory database systems. Existing main memory index structures based on the tree can effectively support range searches. However, it doesn't guarantee the real-time characteristic because difference between the access time of a node and an average access time can be high. The index structures based on the hash have always a regular random access time on the simple searches and that speed is very fast. However they do not support range searches. To solve such problems, we propose a new index mechanism called Hyper Tree-Hash (Hyper-TH) that combines ECBH (Extendible Chained Bucket Hashing) and T*-tree. ECBH can be dynamically extended and has a very fast access time. T*-tree effectively supports the range searches. We show through our experiments that the proposed mechanism outperforms existing other index structures.
Recent advances in the internet infrastructure have resulted in a large number of huge Web sites and portals worldwide. These Web sites are being visited by various types of users in many different ways. Among all the web page access sequences from different users, some of them occur so frequently that may need an attention from those who are interested. We call them frequent access patterns and access sequences that can be frequent the candidate patterns. Since these candidate patterns play an important role in the incremental Web mining, it is important to efficiently generate, add, delete, and search for them. This thesis presents a novel tree structure that can efficiently store the candidate patterns and a related set of algorithms for generating the tree structure adding new patterns, deleting unnecessary patterns, and searching for the needed ones. The proposed tree structure has a kind of the 3 dimensional link structure and its nodes are layered.
In recent years, with the development of portable terminals, various searching services on large data have been provided in portable terminals. In order to search large data, most applications for information retrieval use indexes such as B-trees or R-trees. However, only a small portion of the data set is accessed by users, and the access frequencies of each data are not uniform. The existing indexes such as B-trees or R-trees do not consider the properties of the skewed access patterns. And a cache stores the frequently accessed data for fast access in memory. But the size of memory used in the cache is restricted. In this paper, we propose a new index based on disk, called J-tree, which considers user's search patterns. The proposed index is a balanced tree which guarantees uniform searching time on all data. It also supports fast searching time on the frequently accessed data. Our experiments show the effectiveness of our proposed index under various settings.

Location based Services in the ubiquitous computing environment, namely u-LBS, use very large and skewed spatial objects that are closely related to locational information. It is especially essential to achieve fast search, which is looking for POI(Point of Interest) related to the location of users. This paper examines how to search large and skewed POI efficiently in the u-LBS environment. We propose the Dynamic-level Grid based R-Tree(DGR-Tree), which is an index for point data that can reduce the cost of stationary POI search. DGR-Tree uses both R-Tree as a primary index and Dynamic-level Grid as a secondary index. DGR-Tree is optimized to be suitable for point data and solves the overlapping problem among leaf nodes. Dynamic-level Grid of DGR-Tree is created dynamically according to the density of POI. Each cell in Dynamic-level Grid has a leaf node pointer for direct access with the leaf node of the primary index. Therefore, the index access performance is improved greatly by accessing the leaf node directly through Dynamic-level Grid. We also propose a K-Nearest Neighbor(KNN) algorithm for DGR-Tree, which utilizes Dynamic-level Grid for fast access to candidate cells. The KNN algorithm for DGR-Tree provides the mechanism, which can access directly to cells enclosing given query point and adjacent cells without tree traversal. The KNN algorithm minimizes sorting cost about candidate lists with minimum distance and provides NEB(Non Extensible Boundary), which need not consider the extension of candidate nodes for KNN search.
In this paper, we propose a hybrid index structure, called the SQMR-tree(Spatial Quad MR-tree) that can process spatial data efficiently by combining advantages of the MR-tree and the SQR-tree. The MR-tree is an extended R-tree using a mapping tree to access directly to leaf nodes of the R-tree and the SQR-tree is a combination of the SQ-tree(Spatial Quad-tree) which is an extended Quad-tree to process spatial objects with non-zero area and the R-tree which actually stores spatial objects and are associated with each leaf node of the SQ-tree. The SQMR-tree consists of the SQR-tree as the base structure and the mapping trees associated with each R-tree of the SQR-tree. Therefore, because spatial objects are distributedly inserted into several R-trees and only R-trees intersected with the query area are accessed to process spatial queries like the SQR-tree, the query processing cost of the SQMR-tree can be reduced. Moreover, the search performance of the SQMR-tree is improved by using the mapping trees to access directly to leaf nodes of the R-tree without tree traversal like the MR-tree. Finally, we proved superiority of the SQMR-tree through experiments.

In this paper, we propose a new access method, called the HG-tree, to support indexing and retrieval by image content in large image databases. Image content is represented by a point in a multidimensional feature space. The types of queries considered are the range query and the nearest-neighbor query, both in a multidimensional space. Our goals are twofold: increasing the storage utilization and decreasing the area covered by the directory regions of the index tree. The high storage utilization and the small directory area reduce the number of nodes that have to be touched during the query processing. The first goal is achieved by absorbing splitting if possible, and when splitting is necessary, converting two nodes to three. The second goal is achieved by maintaining the area occupied by the directory region minimally on the directory nodes. We note that there is a trade-off between the two design goals, but the HG-tree is so flexible that it can control the trade-off. We present the design of our access method and associated algorithms. In addition, we report the results of a series of tests, comparing the proposed access method with the buddy-tree, which is one of the most successful point access methods for a multidimensional space. The results show the superiority of our method.
This paper suggests a new access path, hashed B-tree which is an efficient access method for integrity checking. Hashed B-tree is based on the observation that most query patterns in enforcing integrity constraints are point queries. Hashed B-tree compresses the key by hashing procedure, which reduces the height of tree and results in fast node search. This method has the advantages such as it can be implemented easily and use the B-tree concurrency control and recovery algorithm with minor modifications.
The replicas in the Grid database is utilized for a lot of application services. And for deferent services or for deferent information depends on location, the access frequency of each replica is dissimilar. When one replica is stored in many nodes, each replicas applies the week-consistency in the grid computing environment. Especially, when a node work load or operation capacity is varied from others, the replica management would cost expansive. Therefore, this paper proposed the Update Method based on Dynamic Access-Frequency Tree. The dynamic access-frequency tree is pre-constructed by grouping nodes based on each nodes access frequency to manage the replica efficiently and avoid unbalance replica tree. The performance evaluation shows the proposed methods support more quick update than current methods.
