  • Through investigating the effects that result from the form and preference of Ahnsan (案山) and Jusan(主山) symbolizing ground in the cases of 21 of the Korean Academics for classical learning which called Seowon(書院) located in South Korea of the whole 47, to layout the Korean Academics for classical learning, what factor Sarim(士林) preferred to and how they analyzed the form of circumjacent mountains by Fengshui. While the Jusan has intrinsic attribute due to connecting with the place, Hyuljang(穴場), the Ahnsan has public and extrovert. It can be explained that the Sarim who established the Korean Academics for classical learning had their internal hope and external justification. To put it concretely, because of their necessity of concentrating on their study within nature and their situation as hermits apart from government through long time, they made the Korean Academics for classical learning stable and satisfactory. Therefore, they had to choose Moogocksung(武曲星) as a Jusan. And their study was essential method to take their justification. And It was attractive for them to be a public officer by their study. So they preferred to Moonpilbong(文筆峯) symbolizing their achievements on their study. So the layout of the Korean Academics for classical learning tells us that the Sarim sought internal stability and external scholarship.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the unique characteristics of the Korean academic system with regard to brain circulation, with a specific emphasis on the influence of overseas-trained academics on research activities within the Korean academic system. We have analyzed the statistical data on individual characteristics and performances of 48,499 Korean academics in science and engineering. We have examined the results at both the system and individual levels within the broader context of the macro characteristics of the Korean academic system. Our analysis reveals that the total number of domestically-trained academics exceeds the number of overseas-trained academics. However, in terms of research funding, overseas-trained academics tend to receive more funding than domestically-trained academics. Furthermore, after controlling other factors such as funding, personal attributes, and environmental factors, our analysis demonstrates that overseas training has a significant and favorable impact on the publication of internationally renowned journals. As such, the presence of overseas returnees has been essential for the effective functioning of the Korean academic system in the global research network and for conducting high-quality academic research. Therefore, the advantages of dependence on scientific core countries such as the US for overseas training have persisted. Nevertheless, upon scrutinizing the group of recently appointed 5,806 academics exclusively, we have discovered that junior academics who received their education domestically exhibit sufficient academic proficiency compared to their colleagues educated overseas. This observation highlights the potential for the Korean academic system to evolve into a self-sustaining system.

  • With the effect that the Yipsu-ryong(入首龍) of Ju-san(主山) influenced on the layout in the view of geomantic topography(形勢), how Ahn-san(案山) affected the layout plan of the Korean academics of classical learning(書院) is researched. And how the "Jirisinbeob(地理新法)" which had been written by Ho-sun-sin(胡舜申) was applied to the Korean academics of classical learning in the view of Li and Ch'i(理氣) is studied. In Fengshui, the method to pick out a site and to confirm the direction for building construction was divided into two, one of them was 'the geomantic topography', which included 'Ju-san following type(主山順應形)', 'Ahn-san stressing type(案山重視形)' and 'Ju-san & Ahn-san complex type(主 案山混合形)'. And the other is the 'Rule of direction(向法)'. The Korean academics of classical learning was applied by the geomantic topography of Fengshui for its layout and direction, regardless of political, regional and period factors. So when the Sa-rim(士林) needed to set direction for the Korean academics of classical learning, the ground that was appropriate to the geomantic topography of Fengshui was selected. Therefore, the Sa-rim who was abused in Neo-Confucianism had a mind of stressing geomantic topography of Fengshui and they applied it positively for building construction.

  • In this essay, following final conclusions have been drawn by analyzing medical ideology and research system of Yi cheon in Yi hak yip mun("醫學入門"). Firstly, even though the existing medical history researchers are not noting the system of Yi-cheon's medical ideology, this essay has proved the man as a doctor who succeeded the (main system) based on the content of Yi-hak-yip-mun("醫學入門") by Ju-Dan-Gae(朱丹溪). The outline of this proof is as follows. 1. Those doctors who had actively researched in Myung era(明代), were basically taking over the medical studies and result of Gum-Won era(金元代). However, depending on whose theory is to be followed, the followers are largely divided into two groups of Ju-Dan-Gae Academics(丹溪學派) and On-Boe Academics(溫補學派). In addition, both Ju-Dan-Gae Academics(丹溪學派) and On-Boe Academics(溫補學派) hold contradictory ideologies to that of the main medical system. In Yi-hak-yip-mun("醫學入門"), Yi-cheon(李?) ties The Text of Whang-Jae-Nae-Kyung("黃帝內經"), Jang-Jung-Kyung(張仲景), Yu-Ha-Gun(劉河間), Yi-Dong-Won(李東垣), Ju-Dan-Gae(朱丹溪) into one pedigree. With regard to the main system, he especially marks Ju-Dan-Gae(朱丹溪) for his efforts in gathering various medical theories into a large compilement. 2. When Yi-Cheon(李?) was writing Yi-Hak-Yip-Mun("醫學入門"), he made references to various medical publishings, among those book which he had utilized, books by Ju-Dan-Gae Academics(丹溪學派) had affected him more than anything else in terms of both quality and quantity. 3. Yi-Cheon(李?)'s "Congested Phlegm Theory(痰鬱論)" had succeeded "Congested Phlegm Theory(痰鬱論) of Ju-Dan-Gae Academics(丹溪學派). His Yi-Hak-Yip-Mun("醫學入門"), carries a more complete form of "Congested Phlegm Theroy(痰鬱論) which was made into a more systemic and widely applicable method which was by Ju-Dan-Gae Academics(丹溪學派). Secondly, Yi-Hak-Yip-Mun("醫學入門"), is a medical book which was written in the process of systemic reorganization of medical theories of various academic parties in Myung 명 era. Since this process was hearing its completion in the period of Yi-Cheon(李?), he chose specific ways of reshuffling, whilst seeking ways to efficiently utilizing existing medical information . He provided a standard to specific ways. He rearranged the existing medical theories based upon these standards. He also contributed to clinical medicine by providing description of symptoms focused upon the symptoms differentiated In Conclusion, Yi-Hak-Yip-Mun("醫學入門") holds systematic medical information which was developed by Ju-Dan-Gae Academics(丹溪學派). Also, Yi-Cheon(李?) uniformly classified the clinical experiences of existing Ju-Dan-Gae Academics(丹溪學派). He had contributed in the clinical use of Ju-Dan-Gae Academic(丹溪學派)'s clinical experience by providing main points from differentiation of symptoms.

  • The relationship between geographical proximity and academics' formal and informal knowledge-transfer activities in the network is analyzed with a mixed research method. With social network analysis as a basis, we have explored the networks between academics and firms in the 16 regions of South Korea. The result shows Seoul and Gyunggi are identified as central nodes, meaning that the academics in other regions tend to collaborate with firms in these regions. An econometric analysis is performed to confirm the localization of knowledge-transfer activities. The intensity of formal channels measured by the number of academic papers is negatively, but significantly associated with the geographical proximity. However, we have not found any significant relationship between the formality of the channels and geographical proximity. Possibly, the regional innovation systems in South Korea are neither big enough nor strong enough to show a localization effect.

  • While the importance of needs and effectiveness of counseling for the gifted and talented has been actively studied, factors that practitioners and researchers have to consider in designing counseling programs less have been studied. The main aim of this study is to establish a foundation of counseling for the gifted and talented research by investigating factors which impede gifted youths' intentions toward counseling and by suggesting structural model which explains the relationships between the factors. The author(s) investigated the effects of parental emphasis on academics, personal emphasis on academics, attitudes toward seeking professional help, surrounding attitudes for consultation on gifted youths' intentions. The result shows that the effects of parental emphasis to academics on gifted youths' intentions toward counseling are mediated by attitudes toward seeking professional help and surrounding attitudes for consultation. Implications, limitations, and future research directions are discussed.

  • Korean professors and students majoring IS (information systems) were asked "How much knowledge and skills will be required for entry level IS practitioners?" The result shows that there are significant perception gaps between IS academics and IS practitioners and that the perception of IS academics is obsolete. The result implies that the obsolete perception of IS academics is one of the major causes that Korean IS practitioners are experiencing so severe knowledge and skill deficiency.

  • The goal of this research is to see how closely accounting programs in Saudi Arabian colleges comply with the International Accounting Education Standards (IESs). Further, it aims to assess the level of awareness and knowledge of IESs among accounting academics and to examine the possible explanatory factors for their variation. A structured questionnaire was sent to accounting faculty members at 37 Saudi universities. Out of 541 distributed questionnaires, a total of 102 usable responses were received from 26 universities. The findings show that accounting programs in Saudi universities are partially compliant with the guidelines of IESs and accounting academics in those universities are moderately aware of IESs. High variation in the level of academics' knowledge of IESs was detected and was significantly influenced by industry work experience, academic ranks, and professional qualification. The findings of this study suggest that Saudi Universities should work closely with the local and international accounting professional bodies, i.e. the Saudi Organization for Chartered and Professional Accountants (SOCPA) and the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) to improve accounting programs based on the guidelines of IESs to cope with the recent changes in the capital market of the kingdom and the adoption of the International Financial Reporting Standards.
