  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between professional self-concept and job satisfaction of nurses working in long-term care hospitals and to consider strategies to improve these factors. Methods: Data were collected using structured questionnaires given to 135 nurses working at six long-term care hospitals in C City. The data were analyzed with SPSS 23.0 by descriptive statistics, Cronbach's α, t-test, one-way ANOVA, a Scheffé test, and with Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: The average score for professional self-concept was 2.78 points (out of 4 points), and the average score for job satisfaction was 3.11 points (out of 5 points). Significant differences were found for professional self-concept according to age, marriage status, total work experience, number of patients per nurse, and position, while job satisfaction showed significant differences depending on age and the number of patients in the ward. Professional self-concept and job satisfaction showed a significant positive correlation (r=.46, p<.001). Conclusion: In long-term care hospitals, it is necessary to provide education programs about nursing practice, communication, and leadership to enhance the professional self-concept of nurses. With regard to job satisfaction for nurses, it is imperative to improve the work environment of long-term care hospitals.

  • The present study was to explore what makes adolescents think of themselves as troublemakers even without conduct problems. It was expected that the failure to attain socio-developmental milestones(e.g., healthy relationships with others, academic achievement) would lead to form trait aspect of deviant self-concept. A latent state-trait autoregressive modeling was used to analyze five annual waves of data from 3,449 adolescents taken from the Korean Youth Panel Study. We decomposed trait and state aspect of deviant self-concept and identified significant predictors of trait-like deviant self-concept, while additionally testing for gender differences. Our results showed that conduct problems had greater effect on deviant self-concept among girls compared with boys. Conduct problem was most predictive of deviant self-concept, and yet both poor peer-relations and school failures predisposed adolescents to have deviant self-concept. Low academic achievement conferred risk for trait aspects of deviant self-concept with no gender difference, whereas poor peer relation was more predictive among girls. It highlights the cultural value system underlying self-concept and how and why adolescents think of themselves as troublemakers.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of abstraction offer of basic concept principle and feedback of self-efficacy attributional and mathematical study ability of math underachievers in high school based on the attribution theory and self-efficacy theory. The hypothesis were posed as below : Hypothesis 1: The experimental group that takes the abstraction offer of concept principle and attributional feedback training would be better at most self-efficacy than the control group that doesn't. Hypothesis 2: The experimental group that takes the abstraction offer of concept principle and attributional feedback training would have better math achievement than the control group that doesn't. They were divided into an experimental group and a control group, and the attribution disposition, self-efficacy and academic achievement of the children were measured by pretest and posttest. For data analysis, SPSS/PC+ program was employed and t-test was conducted. The main findings of this study were as below : First, the abstraction offer of concept principle and attributional feedback training was effective for enhancing the math self-efficacy in high school underachievers. Second, the abstraction offer of concept principle and attributional feedback training was effective for increasing the math achievement in high school underachievers.

  • This study was conducted to compare the level of RN-BSN students' job satisfaction and professional self-concept (PSCNI) prior to RN-BSN course and upon graduation The study was designed to investigate the degree of job satisfaction and PSCNI, and to test the correlation between job satisfaction and professional self-concept. The subjects were 68 students in Chunchon, who entered to H University (RN-BSN course) in March 1997. The data was gathered by self-reported questionnaire job satisfaction(48 items) and professional self-concept nurses instrument (PSCNI: 27 items) The instruments used for this study were the nurse Job satisfaction scale developed by Stamps et al., and Arthur's PSCNI. The reliability of two questionnaires were relatively high (Job satisfaction Cronbach's $\alpha$=0.88, 0.89, PSCNI Cronbach's $\alpha$=0.80, 0.96) The data was analyzed frequency, mean, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test, Pearson's corelation, and multiple regression analysis through SAS program. Research findings were as follows : 1. The average item score of job satisfaction was 119.50(prior to RN-BSN course) 124.16 (upon graduation). PSCNI' average item score was 75.37/77.21 at each. 2. The job satisfaction scores were significantly higher at the graduation than at the entrance(t=2,10, P=.040). But PSCNI's scores had no significant difference. 3. The relationship between job satisfaction and PSCNI of entering time was high R=.60, P=.000) The relationship of the two at graduation time was not high(R=.29, P=.018). 4. The factors contributing to the job satisfaction & PSCNI as follow: job satisfaction(prior to RB-BSN course), PSCNI(prior to RB-BSN course), The factors contributing to the job satisfaction & PSCNI were as follow: PSCNI(prior to RN-BSN course) In conclusion, we recognized that RN-BSN course influenced job satisfaction of students. Also this study Eave a information for necessity to develop curricula promoting PSCNI. Nurse-educator should explore further research to enlighten the nursing profession.

Methods: This study used a comparative research design. A total of 85 junior nursing students participated in the study, and data from 76 students were analyzed using SPSS WIN 20.0. Among them, 44 students experienced pediatric nursing clinical preceptorship. Results: The students with clinical preceptorship showed a significantly higher score in nursing skill related items of professional self-concept and the confidence in knowledge of injection preparation and administration compared to the counterpart students. Practicum satisfaction was also significantly higher in the students with clinical preceptorship than in the other students. There were significant positive correlations among professional self-concept, performance confidence, and practicum satisfaction. Conclusion: The study findings suggest that clinical preceptorship is an effective educational method to teach clinical practicum of pediatric nursing. The use of clinical preceptorship needs to be considered to motivate nursing students actively involved into the clinical practicum. The roles of clinical preceptors should be clearly identified in clinical education.
