Purpose: This study was performed to investigate the level of ethical values and its related factors among some paramedic students. Methods: The subjects of this study were 480 paramedic students from five universities located in G-metropolitan city and J province. Data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlations, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The mean scores of level of ethical values, academic self-efficacy and self-esteem were $3.70{\pm}0.45$, $3.15{\pm}0.42$ and $3.60{\pm}0.70$, respectively. In the correlation analysis, ethical value level was significantly positively correlated with self-esteem (r=.195, p< .001) and academic self-efficacy (r=.156, p= .001), of domains in academic self-efficacy, self-regulation efficacy (r=.230, p< .001) and confidence (r=.105, p= .022). In multiple regression analysis, self-esteem (${\beta}=.163$, p= .026), task ease preferences (${\beta}=-.350$, p< .001) and confidence (${\beta}=.403$, p< .001) were significantly related to ethical value levels. In addition, subjects willing to participate in the bioethics education showed higher relevance to ethical values than indifferent subjects (${\beta}=2.751$, p= .003). Conclusion: Concrete and systematic education will be needed in order to foster the establishment of ethical values of the paramedic students. Additionally, to fulfill their roles and obligations as emergency medical technicians, in the field, various educational curricula based on simulated cases in the university should be introduced.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a lesson plan related to a simulation for nursing students by understanding what relationship learning satisfaction, self-efficacy and learning attitude have after applying simulation-based education on emergency nursing care. Methods: Simulation practice, seminar, class and group self-study about a patient having a myocardial infarction were applied to nursing students for 5 weeks. After applying the simulation-based education on emergency nursing care, students rated their learning attitude, learning satisfaction and a sense of self-efficacy with a self-administered questionnaire and academic achievement was divided into written and performance evaluation. SPSS/WIN 17.0 was used for descriptive analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and pearson correlation were also used. Results: In this study, the performance evaluation score was related to learning attitude (r=.210, p=.018).Learning satisfaction (r=.220, p=.013)and written evaluation score was related to learning attitude (r=.211, p=.017) and learning satisfaction (r=.190, p=.032). Conclusion: In this study, simulation-based learning was a useful method for practical ability and this is good to acquire both of knowledge and technique. Not only evaluation of theoretical knowledge but performance ability related to practice has to be done by developing lessons with various methods and content. In addition, a standard evaluation method needs to be developed.
Background: The purpose of this study was to analyze research trends in articles published in the Journal of Dental Hygiene Science over the past decade. Methods: From 2011 to 2020, 653 studies were reviewed using a keyword analysis. Contents such as academic classification, research type, research method, research topic, data collection method, data analysis method, and financial support were analyzed. Results: Analysis by school type showed 34.2% of clinical dental hygiene studies, 23.3% of educational dental hygiene studies, 22.8% of basic dental hygiene studies, 10.0% of other field studies, and 9.8% of social dental hygiene studies. The subjects of the study were 20.1% experimental studies, 15.6% general adults, and 15.0% dental hygienists. Regarding the data analysis method, 49.3% of the studies that conducted frequency analysis were the most common. The total number of keywords was 2,390, with 107 (4.48%) being 'dental hygienists.' Next, oral health was the most common with 67 (2.80%) articles, followed by 31 for the elderly (1.30%), 25 for dental hygiene students (1.05%), and 24 for stress (1.00%). Conclusion: For academic development of dental hygiene, it is necessary to explore the diversity of academic topics based on the results of this study. It is necessary to find a way to spread the research results so that the published research can be used for the academic development of dental hygiene.
Objectives: This retrospective cohort study examined the incidence of interappointment emergencies during multiple-visit molar root canal treatments conducted by undergraduate students. Treatments performed without the use of intracanal medicament were compared to treatments that incorporated calcium hydroxide as an intracanal medicament. Materials and Methods: Interappointment emergencies, defined as instances of pain or swelling that required the patient to make an unscheduled follow-up visit, were recorded for up to 2 months after the intervention. To avoid the influence of obturation on the observed incidence of emergency visits, only unscheduled visits occurring between the start and end of the root canal treatment were included. Results: Of the 719 patients included in this study, 77 (10.7%) were recorded as experiencing interappointment emergencies. Of these emergencies, 62% occurred within 2 weeks following the most recent intervention. In the group of patients who did not receive intracanal medicament, the incidence of interappointment emergencies was 11.9% (46 of 385 patients). In comparison, this rate was 9.3% (31 of 334 patients) among those who received calcium hydroxide as an intracanal medicament (odds ratio, 1.33; 95% confidence interval, 0.82-2.15; p = 0.249). Conclusions: Interappointment emergencies may arise at any point during root canal treatment, but they most commonly occur within the first 2 weeks following intervention. The omission of intracanal medicament in multiple-visit molar root canal treatments, performed by undergraduate students, did not significantly increase the incidence of these emergencies.
