Digital Entrepreneurship in Indonesia: A Human Capital Perspective

  • Digital technology has become a new economic and social force, reshaping traditional business models, strategies, structures, and processes. This is a challenge for human capital to develop continuously in this dynamic era; one of the solutions is digital entrepreneurship. Digital entrepreneurship focuses on creating new ventures and transforming existing businesses by developing novel digital technologies or novel usage. Further, digital technology has also enabled the growth of the sharing economy, linking owners and users, and disrupting the previous dualism of businesses and customers. This paper provides a novel contribution regarding the emerging concept of Digital Entrepreneurship. Based on a qualitative literature review and interview with university staff, lecturers, and students in four large public and private universities in West Java and DIY Province, an interpretative framework for Digital Entrepreneurship has been proposed, which comprises of the following components: motivation (the rationale for the adoption of digital technology for academic entrepreneurship), stakeholders (the stakeholders involved through digital technology to achieve the academic entrepreneurship goal), process (the processes of academic entrepreneurship supported by digital technologies), and business form (the emerging forms of digital academic entrepreneurship). This research also shows several alternative government policies to improve digital entrepreneurship in the academic environment.

Analysis of longitudinal relations between creativity, academic achievements, and utilization of computer & smartphone of middle school students (컴퓨터 및 스마트폰 활용이 중학생의 창의성과 학업성취도의 종단적 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the longitudinal relations between creativity, academic achievements, and utilization of computer & smartphone of middle school students. For this purpose, multivariate latent growth model was verified, using three year longitudinal panel data of Seoul Educational Longitudinal Study(2013-2015). Results indicated that the more students in their first year used computer & smartphone, the better scores they obtained on the creativity and academic achievements. As their grade goes up, while the growth rates of using computer & smartphone and creativity were related positively, the growth rates of using computer & smartphone and academic achievements -even though it was not statistically significant- were related negatively. In addition, the first year students, who obtained high level of scores on the creativity, obtained high level of scores on academic achievements, but this tendency was not significant as their grade goes up.

Gender Differences in Computational Thinking, Creativity, and Academic Interest on Elementary SW Education (초등 SW교육에서 성별에 따른 컴퓨팅 사고력, 창의성, 학습흥미의 차이)

  • The purpose of this study was to propose instructional-learning strategies for designing effective software education investigating gender differences in computational thinking, creativity and academic interest on elementary SW education. 86 elementary school students who had SW education for 4 months, consisting of 49 boys (57%) and 37 girls (43%), participated for this study. They responded surveys regarding computational thinking, creativity, and academic interest. With the use of independent t-tests, this study found that there was significant differences in creativity and academic interest between boys and girls at elementary SW education. The mean of creativity of girls was higher than that of boys. however, the mean of academic interest of males was higher than that of girls. On the other hand, there was no difference in computational thinking between boys and girls. In conclusion, this study suggests design and implementation of successful SW education class considering gender.

A Study on Differences between Academic Self-Efficacy and Test Anxiety of Middle School Students depending on Gender and English Achievement (성별과 영어 학업성취도에 따른 중학생의 학업적 자기효능감과 시험불안 차이 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate whether there are differences in academic self-efficacy and test anxiety between two groups(depending on gender and English achievement levels) of Korean middle school students. The subjects are 98 students who are 36 male and 62 female students. Two Questionnaires were administered to measure the learners' academic self-efficacy and test anxiety level. And the collected data were analyzed by t-test to examine the differences between two groups. The results of this study showed that there were statistically very significant differences in academic self-efficacy and test anxiety between two(male-female) groups. But there were no differences statistically in academic self-efficacy and test anxiety between two(high level-low level) groups. Further studies need to be conducted carefully considering the limitations of this study in terms of its instruments and subjects. Also the differences in other affective variables between two groups need to be studied in the future.

A Study on the Mediation Effects of Academic Stress on College Students' Social Supports and College Adjustment (보건·복지계열대학생의 사회적 지지와 대학생활적응과의 관계에서 학업스트레스의 매개효과)

  • This study is aim to examine the influence of the social supports factor of the college students who majors in health or social welfare on their college adjustment and whether or not academic stress would perform a mediating role in the relationship between social supports factor and college adjustment. The subjects in this study were the college students who majored in health or social welfare in Gyeongsang Namdo Province. Data were collected through self reported structured questionnaire form using convenient sampling methods. The findings of the study were as follows: First, the social supports factor and academic stress factor of the college students were found to have exerted a statistically significant influence on college adjustment. Second, the academic stress factor was found to have had partial mediating effects on the relationship between the social supports factor and college adjustment. The findings of the study illustrated that the academic stress factor played a buffering role in the social supports factor that affected the college adjustment of the college students.

Sense of Coherence and Academic Stress in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 통합성과 학업스트레스)

  • This study was conducted to identify the relation between sense of coherence and academic stress in nursing students. Data were collected from 248 nursing students using self-report questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS WIN18.0. There was a significant correlation between sense of coherence and academic stress. Major satisfaction, friends relationship and comprehensibility as a subcategory of sense of coherence accounted for 31.3% of the variance in academic stress. In conclusion, these results indicate that we should search strategies for improvement of teaching method to heighten the major satisfaction, enforcement of sense of coherence, and development of counseling program to reduce academic stress among nursing students.

A Meta-Analysis on the Effects of Academic Achievement in Web-Based Instruction (웹 기반 교수-학습이 학업성취에 미치는 영향에 대한 메타 분석)

  • The purpose of this study has been found to be effective using web-based instruction than traditional teaching-learning method on academic achievement applying the meta-analysis method. The results of this study were as follows: First, The 85% subject of analysis of web-based instruction selected in this study turned out to be clear effective than traditional teaching-learning method in academic achievement of students. Second, Web-based instruction is more effective for academic achievement of elementary school students and university students than for middle school students and high school students relatively. Third, Web-based instruction is a most effective method in social subject and physical education but less effective in language subject. The overall results of this study concluded more powerful and big decisions which have integrated each different effects on academic achievement of studies web-based instruction method applying meta-analysis. Through this study, make better results were obtained and suggested the base line data and direction for follow up studies.

The Effect of Various Factors on the Academic Achievement in ′the Food and Nutrition′Units in Practical Arts (식생활 관련 변인들이 실과 식생활단원의 학업성취에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effects of factors on the academic achievement in the 'Food and Nutrition' units in the Practical Arts : factors such as gender. family and home environment. and participation in. interest in attitude toward. and encouragement by mother in meal management. The factors were surveyed for 453 grade four elementary students (226 boys and 227 girls) and their mothers in Busan. The extent of participation in meal management. of interest. of attitude. and of the mother's encouragement was broken into three groups. Upon completing the 'Table Setting with Fruits'unit. the students'academic achievements were evaluated and compared according to these factors. The results were as follows : 1. The girls participated in meal management more frequently than the boys. Most of the children exhibited a high interest. the girls showing a higher interest than the boys. Both sexes showed a positive attitude toward meal management. Mothers encouraged girls more often than boys to manage meals at home. 2. The academic achievement of the girls was higher than that of the boys. Children living in apartments and more affluent environments scored higher than those who were less well off and living in independent households. 3. Those who frequently participated in meal management. exhibited a high interest. and showed a positive attitude towards it. achieved higher scores than those who showed a lower interest. less positive attitude. and only occasionally participated in it. 4. Those who were encouraged frequently to manage meals by their mother showed a tendency to score higher than those who wee encouraged only occasionally. In conclusion. academic achievement in the 'Food and Nutrition'units in Practical Arts was affected by gender. domestic economy. type of residence. participation in meal management in the home. interest in it. attitude toward it. and encouragement in participation by the other. Thus academic achievement in food. nutrition. and meal management is dependent upon both the school and home environments. Children would learn more in the 'Food and Nutrition'units when their parents set a positive and encouraging environment in the home.

Structural Relationships Among the Epistemological Beliefs, Metacognition, Science Inquiry Skills, and Science Achievement of High School Students (고등학생의 인식론적 신념, 메타인지 및 과학 탐구 능력과 과학 학업성취도의 구조적 관계 분석)

  • In the study, epistemological beliefs, metacognition, and scientific inquiry skills all directly affected the science academic achievement levels of high school students. Also, epistemological beliefs indirectly affected science academic achievement mediated by scientific inquiry skills and metacognition, while metacognition had an indirect effect on science academic achievement level mediated by scientific inquiry skills. We found that scientific inquiry skills had the biggest direct effect, while epistemological beliefs showed the most robust indirect effect on academic achievement level. Thus, we argue that students' scientific inquiry skills should be nurtured for the advancement of their academic achievement. In addition, more careful scholarly attention must be given to both epistemological beliefs and metacognition, which directly and indirectly affected academic achievement level. We believe that epistemological beliefs, metacognition, and scientific inquiry skills should all be considered in an integrative manner when developing educational programs and strategies.

An Analysis of the Factors Affecting Local University Students' Halting Their Academic Studies and Satisfaction with Their Campus Life (지방대학생들의 학업중단 영향요인과 대학생활만족도 분석)

  • This study was aimed to obtain basic data with the intention of lowering the motives of local university students' halting their studies through an analysis of the factors affecting their academic interruption and satisfaction with their campus life. The result of this study is as following. First, it was found that the factors affecting their academic interruption included social variables, sense of self-respect, educational services, home environment, personal interest, academic abilities and so on. It was noted that the factors of personal interest and self-respect had the most significant effects on their academic interruption, statistically. Second, it was shown that the factors such as self-respect, educational services and personal interest had significant effects statistically on satisfaction with their campus life. Third, it turned out that there were significant differences in satisfaction with their campus life between those who considered halting their studies and those who did not. Therefore, concrete efforts at the university level should be put into practice to enhance students' self-respect for and satisfaction with their universities.
