In this study, track dynamic interaction characteristics caused by the vehicle running through transitional section such as bridge abutments were studied using the finite element analysis program. The geometric condition of track was generated by trigonometric function and allowable maximum track irregularity is determined by KORAIL track maintenance criteria. The sub-infrastructure under rail fastener system was modelled by 3D solid elements. To reduce computational cost only half track line is numerically considered and the roller boundary condition was applied to each side of model. In this study, the vehicle-track dynamic interaction analysis was carried out for standard Korean transition section of concrete track and the dynamic behaviors were investigated. The dynamic characteristics considered are wheel load variation, vertical acceleration at body, and maximum Mises stress at each part of transitional section.
Purpose: During guided bone regeneration procedures for the augmentation of deficient alveolar ridge, primary closure of flap is necessary. For primary flap closure, flap is repositioned coronally and the zone of attached keratinized mucosa may decreased. The need for attached keratinized mucosa around dental implants is still controversial, but sufficient peri-implant attached keratinized mucosa would be beneficial for functional and esthetic aspects. This case report presents three cases that demonstrated free gingival graft for increasing the zone of peri-implant attached keratinized mucosa which was decreased after guided bone regeneration. Materials and Methods: In first case, maxillary incisors were extracted and guided bone regeneration was performed simultaneously. Because the membrane was exposed at 3 weeks after operation, the membrane was removed and free gingival graft was performed for primary flap closure. Free gingival graft was performed again at implant placement for the increase of attached keratinized mucosa. In second case, guided bone regeneration was performed on lower right first molar area, and implant was placed with free gingival graft. In third case, lower right molar area showed insufficient attached keratinized mucosa after implant placement with guided bone regeneration. When abutments were connected, free gingival graft with apically positioned flap was performed. Result: In these three cases, the zone of attached keratinized mucosa around dental implants was decreased after guided bone regeneration. And the increase of peri-implant attached keratinized mucosa could be obtained effectively by free gingival graft. Conclusion: Free gingival graft could be a effective treatment method increasing the zone of attached keratinized mucosa which was decreased after guided bone regeneration procedures.
Telescopic denture has advantages such as transfer the occlusal force to the long axis of the abutment, easiness of oral hygiene management, increase of retention and stability, splint effect due to secondary fixation between abutments and have been reported a higher success rates than conventional removable partial denture (RPD). However, there are disadvantages such as complex laboratory procedures, long treatment periods and high costs, and high incidence of complications. This clinical report describes two cases, a 4-point supported telescopic denture using telescopic crown and a 2-point supported telescopic denture using conical crown with functionally satisfactory results. Frequent complications of telescopic denture, which are reported in various literature were reviewed. Clinical and laboratory procedures were performed in consideration of complications that reported.

To evaluate the effect of misfit in two implant-supported fixed partial dentures in the posterior of the mandible, variations of the standard finite element models were made by changing the location of the gap as follows: 1) no gap present; 2) located between the gold cylinder and the abutment on the distal implant; 3) gap located between the gold cylinder and the abutment on the mesial implant. The results of this study were as follows: 1. When the location of the gap was close to the load applied on the prosthesis, the stress in the prosthesis, implant components and surrounding bone increased. 2. The presence of cantilever increased the stress in the prosthesis, implant and surrounding bone significantly, regardless of the presence of the gap. 3. When there was a gap between the prosthesis and abutment, the stress in the bone around the implant increased. 4. When passive fit was achieved, the stress was distributed widely in each component with less peak stress in each component. 5. The inner structures of the implant components, the gold screw and the abutment screw bear more stress when the prosthesis did not exhibit passive fit with the abutments than when passive fit was present.

Circulation phenamena in open channel with abrupt variation in flow section are studied by solving numerically two dimensional Navier-Stokes equations integrated over depth. Galerkin type finite element method is used as numerical scheme. Numerical results by both implicit and explicit schemes tested in one-demensional rectangular channel agree closely with the known solution. The numerical experiments carded out in the open channel with a pool indicate the expected flow pattern and the center of the circulation coincides with the geometrical center, but the vectors of velocity appear father small, and it remains to be further investigated. Numerically simulated flow profiles along the channel with constrictions such as bridge piers and abutments are shown to be close to hydraulic experimental results. Thus further refined numerical technique is expected to be able to serve as a tool to evaluate the effect of bridge backwater.
Objectives : The aim of the study is to investigate job performance expectations according to duration of work and to specify the clinical practice of dental hygienists by career expectations. Methods : The subjects were 310 dental hygienists in Seoul and Incheon. They completed the self-reported questionnaires and 304 data were analyzed except incomplete 6 answers. Results : The tasks performed by dental hygienists were as follows ; SS crown restoration in pediatric dentistry accounted for 25.1%, orthodontics (42.1 %), plaque removal (71.4 %), temporary fillings (60.5%), and impression taking of abutments and bite registration (58.9%). In order to be a skillful dental hygienists, it took two to three years of clinical filed work. Conclusions : On the job training (OJT) is the most important in dental hygiene curricula. So it is necessary to develop the OJT performance skill.
Considerable controversy surrounds the choice of the best abutment type for implant prosthetics. The two most common structures are hex and non-hex abutments. The non-hex abutment typically furnishes a larger contact area between itself and the implant than that provided by a hex structure. However, when a hex abutment is loaded, the position of its contact area may be deeper than that of a non-hex abutment. Hence, the purpose of this study is to determine the different biomechanical behaviors of an internal bone-level implant based on the abutment type-hex or non-hex-and clinical crown length under static and cyclic loadings using finite element analysis (FEA). The hex structure was found to increase the implant and abutment stability more than the nonhex structure among several criteria. The use of the hex structure resulted in a smaller volume of bone tissues being at risk of hypertrophy and fatigue failure. It also reduced micromovement (separation) between the implant components, which is significantly related to the pumping effect and possible inflammation. Both static and fatigue analyses, used to examine short- and long-term stability, demonstrated the advantages of the hex abutment over the non-hex type for the stability of the implant components. Moreover, although its impact was not as significant as that of the abutment type, a large crown-implant ratio (CIR) increased bone strain and stress in the implant components, particularly under oblique loading.

Deformations of bridge deck ends on abutments and piers bring about severe problems in track geometry and require maintenance work. In case of concrete slab track, more severe deformation and additional forces on rail and rail supports can be induced by bridge deck deformation, which affect the serviceability of track structure since concrete slab track is much stiffer than ballasted track and the behavior of track structure is integrated with that of bridge deck. In this study, the design variables affecting the serviceability of track structure are selected and the influence level is estimated by a parametric study. As a result, it is found that continuous span is advantageous than simply supported span and the stiffness of bridge bearing and rail fastener as well as the distance between last rail support and bridge bearing are most important parameters.
This study was performed to investigate the mean life expectancy of dental prosthetic restorations. The author has examined 352 dental prosthesis clinically and radiologically, and decided the success(survival) and failure(mortality) of the dental prosthesis. The dental prosthesis which had been treated in the Seoul National University Dental Hospital, two private clinics in Seoul, one university dental hospital, and two private clinics in local province were included in this study. The survival analysis using product limit estimator was used and the mean life expectancy of each type of dental prosthesis was calculated. The results were as follows : 1. The life expectancies were 10.5 years in gold crown and bridge, 8.5 years in porcelain fused to metal crown and bridge, 8.3 years in nonprecious metal crown and bridge, 8.1 years in removal partial denture, and 7.7 years in full denture. 2. The causes of mortality were in the order of dental caries(24.6%), fracture of dental prosthesis(19.2%), periodontal problems(18.6%), chronic chewing difficulty and dysfunction due to dental prosthesis(15.0%), excessive exposure of abutments due to the marginal defect of dental prosthesis(14.4%), abnormal occlusion due to severe attrition of artificial teeth in dentures(3.0%), periapical problems(2.4%), perforation of dental prosthesis(1.8%), and loose contacts with neighboring tooth(1.2%). 3. Among survival cases, 66.5% showed normal chewing ability and 31.9% showed partial chewing ability. However, 1.6% of them complained loss of chewing ability. 4. Among failure cases, 6.6% showed normal chewing ability and 38.9% showed partial chewing ability. However, 54.5% of them complained loss of chewing ability.
Purpose: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) has been investigated as a novel diagnostic imaging tool. The utilisation of this equipment has been evaluated through several studies in the field of dentistry. The aim of this preliminary study was to determine through basic experiments the effectiveness of OCT in implant dentistry. Materials and Methods: To assess detection ability, we captured OCT images of implants in each of the following situations: (1) implants covered with mucosae of various thicknesses that were harvested from the mandibles of pigs; (2) implants installed in the mandibles of pigs; and (3) implants with abutments and crowns fixed with temporary cement. The OCT images were captured before cementation, after cementation, and after removing the excess submucosal cement. Results: If the thickness of the mucosa covering the implant body was less than 1 mm, the images of the implants were clearly detected by OCT. In the implants were installed in pigs' mandibles, it was difficult to capture clear images of the implant and alveolar bone in most of the samples. Remnants of excess cement around the implants were visible in most samples that had a mucosa thickness of less than 3 mm. Conclusion: Currently, OCT imaging of implants is limited. Cement remnants at the submucosal area can be detected in some cases, which can be helpful in preventing peri-implant diseases. Still, though there are some restrictions to its application, OCT could have potential as an effective diagnostic instrument in the field of implant dentistry as well.
