This study was conducted to examine the influence of 1-1-9 ambulance crews' empathy ability and compassion fatigue on the quality of life in the COVID-19 situation, and to provide basic data on the specific system to improve the quality of life of 1-1-9 ambulance crews. From March 10 to June 15, 2021, a survey was conducted on 250 1-1-9 ambulance crews in K-do and D-si, and frequency analysis, correlation, and multiple regression analysis were conducted using SPSS/WIN 25.0 for the collected data. As a result of multiple regression analysis, it was found that the relationship between psychological variables related to COVID-19 of 1-1-9 ambulance crews on empathy ability, compassion fatigue, and quality of life had a significant influence on each sub-factor. In this paper, we propose that a system be designed to enhance 1-1-9 ambulance crews' well-being.
This is a descriptive survey research to understand the influence of new nursing students' empathy ability, gratitude disposition and self-esteem on nursing professionalism. The subjects of this study were 225 new nursing students located in S city. Data were collected by a self-written questionnaire survey method, and data analysis was performed using SPSS/Win 24.0 PC+ program for mean, standard deviation, correlation and regression analysis. As a result, the factors that have the greatest influence on the professionalism of new nursing students were to be gratitude disposition (=.32, p<.001), empathy ability (=.32, p<.001), and these variables explained total 34.7% of the nursing professionalism of new nursing students. It is expected that the results of this study will contribute to the development of curriculum and programs that may more correctly establish the nursing professionalism.

The purpose of this study is to improve the empathy, communication efficacy, and communication skills of nursing students through a psychiatric nursing practice program using storytelling by allowing the students to immerse in the narratives and identify themselves with the main characters with mental illness. This study is a single group pretest-posttest design that applied psychological nursing practice using storytelling to 46 nursing students from a local university in Korea and evaluated its effectiveness. Data analysis was performed by a paired t-test to compare the effects of the participants' empathy, communication self-efficacy, and therapeutic communication ability using SPSS 21.0 program. The results showed that psychiatric nursing practice using storytelling had an effect on the empathy (t=3.565, p=.001) and communication self-efficacy (t=2.320, p=.025) of nursing students. Based on these results, psychiatric and mental health clinical practice curriculums should be developed to improve nursing students' understanding of mental disorders and develop their communication ability with patients.
The purpose of this study is to develop and validate an Engineering Empathy Instrument. Engineering empathy is defined as the ability that encompasses the following three qualities, a skill to interpret social issues and phenomenon that may occur in the process of interactions between human beings and engineering systems, a practical orientation that enables one to take stakeholders' perspectives to carry out an engineering project, and a professional way of being that acknowledges empathic skills and associated practice orientations. Based on this notion, we develop a scale to measure engineering empathy and have surveyed 429 engineering students. Evidence for the validity and reliability of the scale is presented. In conclusion, we find that engineering empathy can be measured and conceptualized as three domains: a Learnable Skill (ELS), a Practical Orientation (EPO), and a Professional Way (EPW). We also find that sophomores show the highest level of engineering empathy as compared with other graders. While students accumulate technical knowledge, their understanding about engineering in social and interpretational contexts gets weakened. This implies that engineering education necessarily emphasizes the impacts of engineering solutions in interpersonal, societal, technologies, and environmental contexts.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the relationship between empathic ability and cultural competency in university nursing students. Methods: This correlational study involved 139 second- and third-year nursing students. They completed a 3-part questionnaire comprising items assessing general characteristics (9), empathic ability (30), and cultural competency (27). Results: The mean scores for empathy and cultural competency were 106.0 and 78.7, respectively. Empathy did not differ significantly by general characteristics. However, cultural competency significantly differed by foreign language skill. Additionally, a significant correlation was found between the nursing students' empathic ability and cultural competency. Conclusion: Nursing students' empathic ability and cultural competency need to be enhanced to ensure the provision of high-quality nursing services to foreign patients.
The 191 subjects of this study were counselors working with children under 18 years of age. The instrument was validated in an antecedent study and used after testing for reliability. Data were analyzed by Cronbach' a, quantification methods I, and multi-regression analysis. Results showed demographic variables at 5% of ad-$R^2$ over total burnout. Hobbies, counseling career, religion, and major field of study were significant. Marital status and caseload affected 'doubt about job.' Counseling field, qualifications and academic career affected 'negative personal relationship' and 'symptoms of somatization.' Psychological variables were 48% of ad-$R^2$ over total burnout. Self-esteem, type AB, self-insight and empathy ability for countertransference management ability were significant. Lower self-esteem, stronger type A personality, higher self-insight and lower empathy ability, produced higher degree of burnout.

Empathy is the ability to feel, understand, and respond to the emotions of others from the standpoint of others. Recently, 'sympathy' has emerged as an important issue not only in emotional empathy in relation to individuals but also in 'social empathy', which sees sympathy as a basic principle for maintaining society. This study focuses on the issue of empathy as a new driving force for modern society and focused on 'urban scene' as a spatial application for cultural empathy in the city. Urban scenes approach the city as a space of consumption, classify it according to its inherent attributes, and analyze its characteristics. This study approaches the existing urban scene theory in terms of empathy. In addition, as a way to consume city images reflected on contents, a concrete example of 'contents tourism'is examined, and a 'contents scene' is proposed as a new urban scene and its meaning and possibility are presented.

This study was designed to test whether middle school students have moderating effect of empathy ability on group bullying behavior. The subjects were 488 middle school students in Busan area, The mean difference test and regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 20 program and the related variables were standardized to show the characteristics of the control effect. The results of this study are as follows: First, as the experiences of the perpetrator and the experience of the autonomous group, the group bullying behaviors were higher, and it was confirmed that the perpetrators were important variables for predicting the bullying behaviors. As a predictor of bullying behavior, it was identified as an important variable. Second, empathy ability has a moderating effect of alleviating the relationship between perpetrator's harmony and bullying behavior, and the relationship between onlooker and bullying behavior. Third, according to gender analysis, male students were more exposed to bullying behaviors than female students. Through these discussions, practical suggestions for social welfare, academic suggestions, and suggestions for follow-up studies were made.
This study is a systematic review study to confirm the characteristics, effects, and application strategies of domestic and foreign virtual reality programs provided by dementia education. This study is based on the literature published up to July 2020, CINAHL, Cochrane, EMBASE, and Pubmed electronic databases were used overseas, and RISS, KISS, and DBpia were searched in Korea. Based on the selection criteria and exclusion criteria, the final six papers were used for analysis. As a result of the analysis, the subjects of the selected literature were two informal caregivers (33.3%), one general (16.7%), and three students (50.0%) including nursing students and medical and pharmacy students. The virtual reality program was effective in a total of five areas(empathy ability, dementia attitude including knowledge and comfort of dementia, trust in own abilities, dyadic relationship scale), of which 75% of the studies measured empathy ability had significant effects. The results of this study confirm that virtual reality technology can be used for human-centered nursing based on empathy.
