Evaluation of Honeybee Acute Toxicity of Plant Extracts, Neem, Sophora and Derris (식물추출 유기농업자재 3종(님, 고삼, 데리스 추출물)의 꿀벌에 대한 독성평가)

  • This study was performed to evaluate the acute contact and oral toxicity of plant extracts (neem, sophora and derris) against Honeybee (Apis mellifera L.). As a result of acute contact toxicity test, $LD_{50}$ of neem and derris extracts were more than 100 ${\mu}g/bee$ while $LD_{50}$ of sophora extracts were 1.7 ${\mu}g/bee$. In case of acute oral toxicity test, $LD_{50}$ of neem and derris extracts were more than 100 ${\mu}g/bee$ while $LD_{50}$ of sophora extracts were 1.7 and 0.3 ${\mu}g/bee$. In conclusion, it is evaluated that neem and derris extracts are practically nontoxic while sophora extracts are highly toxic.

  • In order to support the service efficiently, a Science and Technology information platform that can share the same contents and technologies is needed. Therefore this study develop a platform that can use various contents and technologies as a common utilization factor, and support a fast and efficient service. In addition, It suggest examples of various APIs in a platform environment system that can utilize scientific data and technologies in various forms according to their use. Throughout the studies, various contents and technologies will be able to connect and interact with each other through the API Gateway on the platform, as well as to integrate Science and Technology contents based on identified researchers, institutions, and terminology data.

  • The Internet of Things (or IoT for short) which refers to uniquely identifiable objects and their virtual representations in an Internet-like structure is to be reality today. The amount of data on IoT is expected to increase abruptly and there are several key issues like usefulness interoperability between multiple distributes systems, services and databases. In this paper a methodology is proposed to realize a recently developed cloud service model, Contents as a Service (CaaS), which is contents delivery model referred to as 'on-demand contents'. In the proposed method, the global object identification, ePosition, comprising the structured form of two sorts of text strings with a separation symbol like # is applied to identify a specific content and registered with the content at the same server. It is easy-to-realize and effective to solve the interoperability problem systematically and logically. Some APIs for the proposed CaaS service are to be converged to provide some upgraded cloud service model such as 'CaaS supported SaaS' and 'CaaS supported PaaS'.

  • There are several data broadcasting standards that the developers should apply when develops any interactive digital TV contents. In Korea, we adopts ACAP(Advanced Common Application Platform) as terrestrial data broadcasting standard, MHP(Multimedia Home Platform) fur satellite data broadcasting and OCAP(OpenCable Application Platform) for cable data broadcasting. Therefore, content providers must develop different applications which suited for different standards - even if the application is exactly same. This is waste of time and energy. This paper suggests a solution to solve this problem among different broadcasting platforms - MHP, OCAP and ACAP. We compared these specifications, and found out what APIs are typically used far applications. Then we designed XML file structures that can be used to define contents of applications. We also implemented an authoring tool which automatically generates XML files by interaction with users. This paper also ascertains Xlet applications, produced by the authoring tool, works properly on each different data broadcasting standard - MHP, OCAP and ACAP.

Flowering, Fruiting, Seed Fall and Seed Viability of Acer pseudosieboldianum in Mt. Jungwang, Gangwondo (강원도 중왕산 당단풍나무의 개화, 결실, 종자 낙하량 및 종자활력)

  • To examine the natural regeneration in the natural mixed-broadleaved forest, flowering, fruiting, seed-fall, and seed viabilities of Acer pseudosieboldianum (Ap) were investigated in Mt. Jungwang, Gangwon-do, from 2009 to 2015. The flower of Ap consisted many male and bisexual flowers on the corymb. Flowering dates are differed between sex morph in the same inflorescence. Stamens are stop growing and disappeared after pollinated pistil begin to grow in bisexual flowers, and male flowers have vestial pistil. The flowers of Ap might be pollinated by Apis mellifera, Andrenidae spp. and Syrphinae spp. Ap had some mechanism to prevent from self pollination with heterodichogamy. Mean annual seedfall of Ap was 70,780 ea/ha (ranged 310~234,840 ea/ha). Annual seedfall of Ap varied severely, and the maximum was about 760 times the minimum. Annual seed production of Ap might be to a normal distribution. Rates of damaged or decayed seeds are highest 59.3%, and those of sound seeds are 23.9%, Those of undeveloped and empty seeds are 9.2% and 7.6%, respectively. The most important factors influencing sound seed production might be the density and activities of insect pollinators and sucking pest in the flowerwing period, middle-late May. Successful regeneration of Ap might be in masting year and on the gap sites with proper conditions to germinate and grow. To understand the natural regeneration of deciduous hardwoods, further study on the characteristics of flowering and fruiting, pre- and post-dispersal seed predation, and annual variation on these factor should be needed.

Implementation of Control Point, Digital TV, and Light Controller Emulator on Embedded System Using UPnP Home Networking Control Middleware (홈 네트워킹 제어 미들웨어인 UPnP를 이용한 Control Point 및 내장형 시스템 상에서의 DTV와 전등 제어기 에뮬레이터 구현)

  • In this paper, we have implemented UPnP Devices which emulate a Control Point, a Light Controller, and a Digital TV. The Control Point has been developed on Linux host system by using C language. The UPnP Devices emulating the Digital TV and Light Controller are running on embedded linux developer board. For the development of UPnP Devices, UPnP SDK API Vl.04 made by Intel Co. Ltd. has been ported on Assabet Linux Reference board to implement the UPnP protocol. After we analyze and design some services of Digital TV device, we have applied UPnP Device program to those devices. UPnP SDK vl .04 consists of APIs which support HTTP, SSDP, SOAP, GENA and XML DOM Level-1 that are cores of UPnP protocol. The C program written for the UPnP Control Point has been compiled and executed on Linux-based PC. The embedded system running on Embedded Linux OS has been connected all together through Ethernet which allows IP-based communications. Under this environment, the UPnP programs are being executed on each device. Control Point, when in operational mode, discovers UPnP Devices on the network and displays the device list on the consol. By selecting one of the functionalities of the device services that are displayed on the Control Point, the controllability has been accomplished. The experiment that we performed in this thesis have revealed that the Control Point and UPnP Devices have supported the protocols including SSDP, SOAP, GENA, and DHCP.

Flowering, Fruiting, Seed Fall and Seed Viability of Acer ukurunduense in Mt. Jungwang, Gangwondo (강원도 중왕산 지역에서 부게꽃나무의 개화, 결실, 종자낙하량 및 종자활력)

  • To examine the natural regeneration in the natural mixed-broadlived forest, flowering, fruiting, seed-fall, and seed viabilities of Acer ukurunduense Trautv. & C.A. Mey. (AU) were investigated in Mt. Jungwang, Gangwon-do, from 2009 to 2013. The flower of AU consisited many male and bisexual flowers on the raceme (unusual panicle) and the arrangement of two sex morphs are differed for each inflorescence. Flowering dates are differed between sex morph in the same inflorescence. Stamens are stop growing and disappeared after pollinated pistil begin to grow in bisexual flowers, and male flowers have vestial pistil. The flowers of AU might be pollinated by Apis mellifera, Thyris fenestrella seoulensis, Cerambycidae sp., Andrenidae sp. and Ctenophora sp., and had some mechanism to prevent feom self pollination. The number of flower buds per inflorescence is 189 on June 8, and that of young samaras per inflorescence is 41.2 on June 21. At last ripened samaras per inflorescence is reduced 33.4 on September 5. Mean annual seedfall of AU was 6,720 ea/ha (ranged 670~17,930). Rates of sound seeds are highest 43.2%, and those of damaged or decayed seeds are 41.8%,. Those of undeveloped and empty seeds are 10.2% and 4.8%, respectively. Successful regeneration of AU might be in masting year and on the gap sites with proper conditions to germinate and grow. To understand the natural regeneration of the species, Genus Acer, further study on the fruiting habit, pre- and post-dispersal seed viability, and annual variation on these factor should be needed.

Stability of main components and physiological activities of bee venom treated with pH (산도에 따른 봉독의 성분 및 생리활성에 대한 안정성)

  • This study was for the investigation of the stability of purified bee venom (PBV) during the treatment in the pH range from pH2 to pH9 for 24 hours, respectively. Changes of components and physiological functionalities in PBV were by evaluated silver staining, and melittin contents were measured by liquid chromatography. The antimicrobial activity against bacteria by minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and effect of the cell regeneration were measured by 3-[4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazolyl]-2,5-diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay using human dermal fibroblast (HDF) cell. The main proteins such as melittin and phospholipase $A_2$ showed no characteristic changes. The antimicrobial activity and effect of cell regeneration showed no difference from pH2 to pH9. From this study, we suggest that components and physiological functionalities of PBV against treated pH were kept stability at from pH2 to pH9.

Analysis of Impact of Correlation Between Hardware Configuration and Branch Handling Methods Executing General Purpose Applications (범용 응용프로그램 실행 시 하드웨어 구성과 분기 처리 기법에 따른 GPU 성능 분석)

  • Due to increased computing power and flexibility of GPU, recent GPUs execute general purpose parallel applications as well as graphics applications. Programmers can use GPGPU by using the APIs from GPU vendors. Unfortunately, computational resources of GPU are not fully utilized when executing general purpose applications because of frequent branch instructions. To handle the branch problem, several warp formations have been proposed. Intuitively, we expect that the warp formations providing higher computational resource utilization show higher performance. Contrary to our expectations, according to simulation results, the performance of the warp formation providing better utilization is lower than that of the warp formation providing worse utilization. This is because warp formation providing high utilization causes serious memory bottleneck due to increased memory request. Therefore, warp formation providing high computation utilization cannot guarantee high performance without proper hardware resources. For this reason, we will analyze the correlation between hardware configuration and warp formation. Our simulation results present the guideline to solve the underutilization problem due to branch instructions when designing recent GPU.

Antimicrobial Activities of Propolis against Oral Candidiasis by Candida Albicans -Effect of Microbial Inhibition Using Propolis- (구강 캔디다증 알비칸스에 대한 프로 폴리스의 항균 활동 -프로폴리스를 이용한 미생물 억제 효과-)

  • Propolis is an extremely safe natural antimicrobial substance that has been reported to have powerful antibacterial efficacy. The aim of this study was to evaluate the inhibitory effects of propolis against Candida albicans (C. albicans). Propolis was collected from the honey bee Apis mellifera. The strain of C. albicans was cultivated overnight in liquid media incubated at $37^{\circ}C$. The antimicrobial activity was investigated using phosphate buffered saline (PBS), 3% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl), 0.1% chorhexidine (CHX), and propolis extracts ($5{\mu}l/ml$, $10{\mu}l/ml$). C. albicans were sensitive to 3% NaOCl, 0.1% CHX, and propolis ($5{\mu}l/ml$, $10{\mu}l/ml$) with zones of inhibition of 15, 14.5, 16, and 17 mm, respectively. The CFU of PBS, 3% NaOCl, 0.1% CHX, $5{\mu}l/ml$ and $10{\mu}l/ml$ of propolis led a 1, 7, 7, 5 and 7-log reduction. Among the groups tested, C. albicans was most sensitive to $10{\mu}l/ml$ of propolis, which showed the largest inhibition zones. Therefore, propolis can be a new antimicrobial therapy for oral mucosa disease in traditional medicine.
