  • Purpose: While most studies focus on learning styles in face-to-face education, research on online learning environments, especially by age in lifelong education, is limited. This study aims to propose a direction for online learning by analyzing digital literacy and e-Learning learning styles by age in lifelong education. Research design, data and methodology: The study surveyed 100 online learners from an open university in Seoul. Using an e-Learning learning styles test, frequency analysis was conducted by gender, age, and digital literacy. A learning plan was then proposed based on the results. Results: The study found no age-related differences in digital literacy. Both men and women shared similar ratios of Environment-dependent and self-directed learning styles, reflecting the characteristics of online learners using digital devices. Conclusions: In lifelong education, e-Learning design should accommodate diverse learning styles: web/app designs for Environment-independent and self-directed learners, short/long formats for Passive learners, real-time (LMS)/non-real-time (ZOOM) systems for Positive and cooperative learners, and AI/human tutors for Environment-dependent and self-directed learners.

  • With the advancement of digital technology, a variety of digital materials are being utilized in education. For their appropriate use of digital resources, teachers need to be able to evaluate the quality of digital resource and determine the suitability for teaching. This study explored how preservice teachers evaluate TocToc-Math, an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based math support system. Based on an evaluation framework developed through prior research, preservice teachers evaluated TocToc-Math with evidence-based criteria, including content quality, pedagogy, technology use, and mathematics curriculum alignment. The findings shows that preservice teachers positively evaluated TocToc-Math overall. The evaluation tendencies of preservice teachers were classified into three groups, and the specific characteristics of each factor differed depending on the group. Based on the research results, we suggest implications for improving preservice teachers' evaluation abilities regarding the use of digital technology and AI in mathematics education.

  • This study aims to examine trends in personalized education in South Korea by analyzing major keywords from big news data using topic modeling techniques. To achieve this objective, we analyzed 19,874 news articles published in South Korea between January 2018 and October 2023. The keywords were categorized into three distinct time periods: January 2018 to December 2019 (Period 1), January 2020 to December 2021 (Period 2), and January 2022 to October 2023 (Period 3). The results reveal distinct keyword trends across the three periods. In Period 1, keywords such as "university," "junior college," "Seoul," and "Samsung Electronics" were prominent. In Period 2, "Corona," "Seoul," and "AI" emerged as significant terms. In Period 3, "government," "AI," "region," "students," and "youth" were identified. These findings indicate a focus on personalized education and competency development at various levels, including local, national, and institutional (universities and colleges). We can confirm the increasing prevalence of personalized education in response to the growing demand for digital and AI technologies, with numerous colleges nationwide promoting these initiatives at a national level. Additionally, the application of personalized education was observed as a measure to support underachieving students, addressing issues such as educational gaps and foundational education. This suggests a blend of both universal and specific approaches to personalized education. Based on these findings, the study recommends that to properly progress this idea, an elaborate theoretical framework that creates a balance between the pedagogical objective of satisfying the requirements of particular learners and adaptive learning technology would be needed.

  • In In the era of digital transition, AI-based personalized services are emerging in the field of education. This research aims to examine the development strategies for implementing AI-based learning services in school. Focusing on AI-based math learning service "Math Cell" developed by i-Scream Edu, this study surveyed the functional requirements from the perspective of an educator. The results were analyzed for importance and suitability using IPA, and expert opinions were surveyed to explore specific development directions for the service. Consequently, importance in all areas such as diagnosis, learning, evaluation, and management averaged 4.82 and performance averaged 4.56, showing excellent results in most questions, and in particular, importance was higher than performance. Among certain detailed functions, concept learning, customized task presentation, evaluation result analysis function, dashboard-related functions, and learning materials in the dashboard were not intuitive for students to understand and had to be supplemented. This study provides meaningful insights by summarizing expert opinions on AI-based personalized mathematics learning services, thereby contributing to the exploration of the development strategies for "Math Cell".
