An understanding of the mechanism of concrete girders repaired with CFRP plates and its influence on the dynamic parameters is presented in this paper. Dynamic parameters are governed by the relationship with the physical properties of concrete girders and CFRP plates as well as the adhesive layer between them. A brief explanation of the mechanism of the composite action of concrete girders repaired with CFRP is also given in this paper. Experimental work was carried out to validate the theory of the composite action. The results show a decrease in the modal parameters of CFRP repaired girders that were turned over during the repair procedure, which contrasts with the proven static-based results that CFRP plates increase the stiffness of repaired girders. The composite action theory has explained the results based on the tension and compression forces' growth at the adhesive layer between the CFRP plates and girder surface during the repair procedure. Other girders were prepared and repaired without turning over in order to avoid tension and compression forces at the adhesive layer. The experimental results show an increase in the dynamic parameters of CFRP repaired girders that were not turned over during the repair procedure, which aligns with the static-based results. The study concludes that the dynamic parameters are excellent indicators for the assessment of CFRP repaired concrete girders. The study also suggests that researchers should not turn over damaged concrete girders to repair them with CFRP plates if they intend to study the dynamic parameters, in order to avoid the proposed composite action effect on modal parameters.
Recently, adhesive-bonding technique is wifely used in manufacturing structures. Stress and strain analysis of joints are essential to design adhesive-bonded joints structure. The single-lap adhesive joint is the design dominating the range of adhesive joints. In this study, single-lap specimens with different joint dimensions were used for the tensile-shear test and finite element calculation in of order to investigate the effect of overlap length and adhesive-bonding thickness on adhesive strength and stress distribution of the joints. Consequently, it was found that overlap lap size and thickness can be important parameters of structure joints using adhesive bonding, which is effected on adhesive strength.
In this study, a method to characterize material properties of adhesive that is used in a layered plates bonding process is developed by combined evaluation of experiment, simulation and optimization technique. A small bonded specimens of rectangular plate are prepared to this end, and put into a thermal loading conditions. $Moir{\acute{e}}$ interferomety is used to measure submicron displacements occurred during the process. The elevated temperature is chosen as control factors. FE analysis with constant values for the adhesive materials is also carried out to simulate the experiment. Significant differences are observed from the two results, in which the simulation predicts the monotonic increase of the bending displacement whereas the measurement shows decrease of the displacement at above $75^{\circ}C$. In order to minimize the difference of the two, material parameters of the adhesive at a number of different temperatures are posed as unknowns to be determined, and optimization is conducted. As a result, optimum material parameters are found that excellently matches the simulation and experiment, which are decreased with respect to the temperature.
Functions of interlinings to the shell fabric are to improve the garment formability for a beautiful silhouette and elastic potential to the deformed fabric during wearing, and also are to enhance appearance and wearing properties of garment. The objective of this study is to analyse the thermal properties of nonwoven fusible interlining to the thin worsted fabric with various fabric structural parameters. For the purpose fo this study, eight specimens with various weft yarn twists and weft densities of thin worsted fabrics are prepared. Three nonwoven fusible interlinings with different structure which were made by Nylon/Polyester were used for adhering to the thin worsted fabrics. Thermal properties of these 24 adhesive fabrics fused with 3 nonwoven interlinings are measured by KES-F7 System for analysing the thermal suitability of nonwoven fusible interlinings to the thin worsted fabrics with various fabric structural parameters. And air permeability, which was measured by KES-F8-API, of 24 nonwoven adhesive interlining fabrics was also analysed and discussed with the various kinds of nonwoven interlinings and fabric structural parameters.

PURPOSE. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of pretreatment of three different universal adhesives (Single Bond Universal [SBU], All-Bond Universal [ABU], and Prime&Bond universal [PBU]) on the bonding durability of an adhesive (Panavia F 2.0, PF) and a conventional (Duo-Link, DL) resin cements to air-abraded zirconia. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Rectangular-shaped zirconia specimens were prepared. The chemical composition and surface energy parameters of the materials were studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and contact angle measurement, respectively. To evaluate resin bonding to the zirconia, all the bonding specimens were immersed in water for 24 h and the specimens to be aged were additionally thermocycled 10000 times before the shear bond strength (SBS) test. RESULTS. The materials showed different surface energy parameters, including the degree of hydrophilicity/hydrophobicity. While the DL/CON (no pretreatment) showed the lowest SBS and a significant decrease in the value after thermocycling (P < .001), the PF/CON obtained a higher SBS value than the DL/CON (P < .001) and no decrease even after thermocycling (P = .839). When the universal adhesives were used with DL, their SBS values were higher than the CON (P < .05), but the trend was adhesive-specific. In conjunction with PF, the PF/SBU produced the highest SBS followed by the PF/ABU (P = .002), showing no significant decrease after thermocycling (P > .05). The initial SBS of the PF/PBU was similar to the PF/CON (P = .999), but the value decreased after thermocycling (P < .001). CONCLUSION. The universal adhesive pretreatment did not necessarily show a synergistic effect on the bonding performance of an adhesive resin cement, whereas the pretreatment was beneficial to bond strength and durability of a conventional resin cement.
Fracture models and criteria of adhesive with two parameters, namely $G_C$ and ${\sigma}_{max}$, have been developed to describe the fracture process of adhesive joints. Cohesive zone model(CZM) is a representative two parameter failure criteria approach. In CZM, ${\sigma}_{max}$ is a critical, limiting maximum value of the stress in the damage zone ahead of the crack and is assumed to have some physical significance in adhesive failure. Based on CZM and finite element analysis method, the relationship between fracture load and adhesive properties, as $G_{IC)$ and $({\sigma}_{max})_I$, was investigated in adhesively bonded joint tensile test and T-peel test. The two parameters in tensile mode loading were evaluated by using the relationship. The value of $G_{\IC}$ evaluated by proposed method showed close agreement with analytical solution for tapered double cantilever beam(TDCB) test which proposed in an ASTM standard.
This study was conducted to optimize adhesive joining procedure for epoxy resin composite materials through investigations on correlation of curing condition with shear adhesive strength, curing mechanism analysis and fracture position observation. It was found that shear adhesive strength ranged 4 to 6MPa and could be improved 50 to 70% by increasing curing temperature from 20 to 140$^{\circ}C$. Based on FT-IR spectra analysis, formation of ether group(-$\bigcirc$-) as an evidence of curing was remarkable at the heated curing condition.
A new form-joining process with the aid of an adhesive is proposed in which an epoxy adhesive is applied to a sheet metal pair, and before it cures the pair is clinched to cause the geometric constraint in the form of a protrusion. In order to reduce the forming load and the height of protrusions, a new die and punch set with a very small clearance was devised to reduce the depth of drawing and the forming load. Taguchi method was employed to find the optimal values of design parameters. To implement each case of the orthogonal array, the finite element method was used. The experiments showed that on the tensile-shear test, the bonding strength of the new form-joining process with an epoxy adhesive is approximately the same as that of the resistance spot welding; and in comparison with the other two form-joining processes with an epoxy adhesive, the height of protrusions was reduced by more than 65 percent and the forming load by 50 percent.
The stress singularity for the excess adhesive on interface of adhesively bonded joint was investigated by using the 2-dimensional elastic boundary element method (BEM). To establish a reasonable strength evaluation method and a fracture criterion for the excess adhesive of interface in adhesively bonded joint, it is necessary to evaluate fracture parameters with various bonding conditions. Under the variations of adhesively bonded thickness (h) and diameter (d) for the excess adhesive, a stress analysis was performed, and from the results, the stress singularity index (${\lambda}$) and the stress singularity factor (${\Gamma}$) were calculated. The variations have a great influences on the stress singularity for the excess adhesive of interface in adhesively bonded joint, and the ${\Gamma}$ is reduced as the "h" and "d" increase.
