A simple and effective guidance and control scheme that enables autonomous three-dimensional path-following for a fixed wing aircraft is presented. The method utilizes the nonlinear path-following guidance law for the outer loop that creates steering acceleration command based on the desired flight path and the current position and velocity of the vehicle. The scheme considers the gravity in the guidance level, where it is subtracted from the acceleration command to form the specific force acceleration command which the aircraft is better suited to follow than the total acceleration command in the inner-loop. A roll attitude control scheme is also presented that enables inverted flight or sideslip maneuvers such as slow roll and knife-edge. A series of aerobatic maneuvers are demonstrated through simulations to show the potential of the proposed scheme.
The 2008 Iwate-Miyagi Nairiku earthquake ($M_w$ 6.9, $M_{jma}$ 7.2) occurred on 14 June 2008 in Japan. The amplification and asymmetric waveform of the vertical acceleration at the ground surface recorded by accelerometers at station IWTH25, situated 3 km from the source, were remarkable in two ways. First, the vertical acceleration was extremely large (PGA = 38.66 $m/s^2$ for the vertical component, PGA = 42.78 $m/s^2$ for the sum of the three components). Second, an unusual asymmetric waveform, which is too far above the zero acceleration axis, as well as large upward spikes were observed. Using a multidegree-of-freedom (MDF) system consisting of a one-dimensional continuum subjected to vertical acceleration recorded at a depth of 260 m below ground level, the present paper clarifies numerically that these singular phenomena in the surface vertical acceleration records occurred as a result of the jumping and collision of a layer in vertical motion. We herein propose a new mechanism for such jumping and collision of ground layers. The unexpected extensive landslides that occurred in the area around the epicenter are believed to have been produced by such jumping under the influence of vertical acceleration.

Cu films for future ULSI metallization were prepared by partially ionized beam (PIB) deposition and characterized in terms of preferred orientation, grain size, roughness and resistivity. PIB-Cu films were prepared on Si (100) at pressure of $8 \times 10^{-7}$~$1 \times 10^{-6}$ Torr. Effects of acceleration voltage and ionization potential on the properties of PIB-Cu films have been investigated. As the acceleration voltage increased at constant ionization potential of 400 V, the degree of preferred orientation and surface smoothness of the Cu film increased. At the ionization potential of 450 V, the degree of preferred orientation at the acceleration voltage higher than 2 kV decreased and surface roughness increased with acceleration voltage. Grain size of Cu films increased to 1100 $\AA$ initially up to applied acceleration voltage of 1 kV, above which a little increase occurred with the acceleration voltage. There was no indication of impurities such as C, O in all sample. Resistivity of Cu film had the same trends as the surface roughness with acceleration voltage and ionization potential. The increase of electrical resistivity of PIB-Cu films was explained in terms of grain size and surface roughness
In current seismic design codes, various elastic design acceleration spectra are defined considering different seismological and soil characteristics and are widely used tool for calculation of seismic loads acting on structures. Response spectrum analyses directly use the elastic design acceleration spectra whereas time history analyses use acceleration records of earthquakes whose acceleration spectra fit the design spectra of seismic codes. Due to the fact that obtaining coherent structural response quantities with the seismic design code considerations is a desired circumstance in dynamic analyses, the response spectra of earthquake records used in time history analyses had better fit to the design acceleration spectra of seismic codes. This paper evaluates structural response distributions of multi-story reinforced concrete frames obtained from nonlinear time history analyses which are performed by using the scaled earthquake records compatible with various elastic design spectra. Time domain scaling procedure is used while processing the response spectrum of real accelerograms to fit the design acceleration spectra. The elastic acceleration design spectra of Turkish Seismic Design Code 2007, Uniform Building Code 1997 and Eurocode 8 are considered as target spectra in the scaling procedure. Soil classes in different seismic codes are appropriately matched up with each other according to $V_{S30}$ values. The maximum roof displacements and the total base shears of considered frame structures are determined from nonlinear time history analyses using the scaled earthquake records and the results are presented by graphs and tables. Coherent structural response quantities reflecting the influence of elastic design spectra of various seismic codes are obtained.

We consider the estimation of failure rate and acceleration factor under type-I censoring without using acceleration model when testing is conducted in only one highly accelerated condition. Failure times of an item are assumed to be exponentially distributed. It is also assumed that the uncertainty about the acceleration factor, the failure time contraction ratio between accelerated condition and use condition, can be modeled by the uniform or gamma prior distribution of appropriate parameters. We respectively use Bayes and maximum likelihood approaches to estimate acceleration factor and failure rate in the use condition. An example is given to show how the method can be applied.
The present study is carried out in order to investigate the effect of the periodic acceleration in the stenosed and bifurcated blood vessels. The blood flow and wall shear stress are changed under body movement or acceleration variation. Numerical studies are performed for various periodic acceleration phase angles, bifurcation angles and section area ratios of inlet and outlet. It is found that blood flow and wall shear stress are changed about ${\pm}20%$ and ${\pm}24%$ as acceleration phase angle variation with the same periodic frequency. also wall shear stress and blood flow rate are decreased as bifurcation angle increased.

To provide the appropriate direction for development of transient control in a gasoline engine, transient performance analysis and evalution under four accelerating types based on typical driver's acceleration type were implemented by experimental study. In order to evaluate the characteristics of transient performance quanititatively, the concept and method by transient response specifications were introduced. Several performance parameters in terms of engine speed(RPM), manifold absolute pressure(MAP), fuel injection duration($\DeltatI_{nj}$) and air excess ratio($\lambda$) were emasured simultaneously during the four types of the throttle valve opening with the step motor controlled by PC. The result showed that transient response specifications in terms of delay time, rising time and settling time characterized the transient performance for four acceleration types quantitatively. Intensified acceleration type was most economical and linear acceleration type revealed the best emission performance.

A torsional vibration at driveline happens seriously at rapid vehicle acceleration. The torsional vibration at driveline can be reduced by optimization of joint angle and yoke phase angle of driveline. But, the joint angle of driveline is changed according to vehicle driving condition as acceleration, deceleration, forward and backward driving, so that excessive vibration is transmitted to vehicle body at specific driving condition. Especially under rapid acceleration condition, vibration transmitted to body could be maximized because excitation force at rapid acceleration is bigger than that at normal driving condition due to changed joint angle. The torsional vibration of driveline can be kept at low level by controlling suspension parameter to minimize rigid axle displacement as well as optimizing joint angles considering the vehicle acceleration condition.

The design of reference trajectory with respect to drag acceleration is necessary to decelerate from hypersonic speed safely after atmosphere re-entry of space vehicle. The re-entry guidance design involves trajectory optimization, generation of a reference drag acceleration profile with the satisfaction of 6 trajectory constraints during the re-entry flight. This reference drag acceleration profile can be considered as the reference trajectory. The cost function is composed of the accumulated total heating on vehicle due to the reduction of weight. And a regularization is needed to prevent optimal drag profile from varying too fast and achieve realized trajectory. This paper shows the relations between velocity, drag acceleration and altitude in drag acceleration profile, and how to determine the reference trajectory.
The anomalous acceleration of Pioneer-10 and Pioneer-11 is known since 1992. These spacecrafts show the unexplainable acceleration near $10^{-7}\;cm/sec^2$ in the direction to the Sun. Later the unknown acceleration of the same order was found in the motion of Ulysses in its motion from the Jupiter to Mercury, and in the motion of Galileo, NEAR, Cassini, Rosetta, and Messenger at the flybys of these spacecrafts near the Earth. The possibility of unexplainable acceleration near $10^{-7}\;cm/sec^2$ was discussed also for stellar globular clusters and for galaxies. We propose the empirical formula for taking into account this acceleration and overview the predictions of this formula at cosmological scales. Several unknown observational effects are found. One of these effects is the anomalous redshifts in the clusters of galaxies. It was known previously only for small groups of galaxies. We show the existence of anomalous redshifts in the clusters of galaxies using the spectral observations of near one million galaxies from the SLOAN 5th data release.
