  • The aims of this study are to investigate science high school students' understanding of velocity and acceleration of a simple pendulum bob, and to investigate their understanding of inertia and gravitational force in the motion of a pendulum bob when the tension is removed. For the study, 46 students that had already studied the physical, concepts in simple pendulum were sampled from a science high school in a large city in Korea. For a comparison with general high school students' conceptions, 49 students were sampled from a general high school in the same city. The test tool for the investigation consisted of four drawing and simple-answering type questions developed by the authors. The outcomes of the study revealed that a substantial number of science high school students have misconceptions concerning acceleration in pendulum motion, and that many of them do not understand the relationship between force and acceleration. In addition, the results of the study showed that more than 30% of the students drew the path of a bob going along the tangential direction at the highest point of the motion, and approximately 20% of them drew the path of a bob falling straight down at the lowest point of the motion.

  • Dynamic response of high-speed railway bridges is important due to the possibility of resonance from continuous and repeated action of high-speed train running. Acceleration of bridge deck is important parameter in the evaluation of dynamic stability of bridges. This study investigated acceleration characteristics according to type of tracks.

  • Rotation-powered pulsars are excellent laboratories for studying particle acceleration as well as fundamental physics of strong gravity, strong magnetic fields and relativity. Particle acceleration and high-energy emission from the polar caps is expected to occur in connection with electron-positron pair cascades. I will review acceleration and gamma-ray emission from the pulsar polar cap and associated slot gap. Predictions of these models can be tested with the data set on pulsars collected by the Large Area Telescope on the Fermi Gamma-Ray Telescope over the last four years, using both detailed light curve fitting, population synthesis and phase-resolved spectroscopy.

  • Transfer alignement is the process of initializing attitude of slave INS using the data of master INS. This paper presents the performance analysis of transfer alignment at sea using convariance analysis method. Velocity & angle matching and angular rate & acceleration matching are used for analysis, and the performance of two matching methods are compared. We propose a new method for angular rate & acceleration matching. Under the assumption of accurate modeling of ship flexure, the performance of transfer alignment time and accuray is improved very much for the new method.

  • In this paper, dynamic constraints are considered for the analysis of manipulability of robotics systems comprised of two cooperating arms. Given bounds on the torques of joint actuators for each robot, the purpose of this study is to derive the bounds of task acceleration of object carried by the system. Under the assumption of complete constraint contact, a set of examplar polytope describing acceleration bounds of two cooperating robots are included.

  • This paper describes some recent developments in our understanding of particle acceleration by shocks. It is pointed out that while good agreement now exists as to steady nonlinear modifications to the shock structure, there is. also growing evidence that the mesoscopic scales may not in fact be steady and that siginficant instabilties associated with magnetic field amplification may be a feature of strong collisionless plasma shocks.

  • In this paper, dynamic response analysis on the ground movement applied traffic load by 2D finite element procedure has been studied. In particular, The paper deal with pointing acceleration method that applied AFIMEX Code as like 2D-FLUSH using equivalent linear method. As the result, it is found that dynamic response analysis by pointing acceleration method expressed ground movement by traffic load exactly.

  • An acceleration technique combined with the discrete ordinates method which has been widely used in the solution of neutron transport phenomena is applied to the solution of radiative transfer equation. The self-adjoint form of the second order radiation intensity equation is used to enhance the stability of the solution, and a new linearization method is developed to avoid the nonlinearity of the material temperature equation. This new acceleration method is applied to the well known Marshak wave problem, and the numerical result is compared with that of a non-accelerated calculation

  • Model of the novel Surface motor (SFM) is briefly discussed, and two types of control method including two-order feedback circuit control, indirect acceleration feedback control are analyzed to solve unstable characteristic such as low damp and negative stiffness. The simulation results demonstrate that the system has plain amplitude and wide frequency band arranging from 0 to 8kHz with no resonant peak through indirect acceleration feedback control.

  • This paper presents neural network based position estimation method in slippery environment as an approach to solve one of problems which are engaged in dead reckoning method. Position estimator is composed of slip detector and linear velocity estimator. Both of them are based on the fact that dynamic characteristic of mobile robot in slippery environment is different from the case without slip. To find out the dynamic relation among driving torque, angular acceleration of driving wheel and linear acceleration of mobile robot, accelerometer is used for measuring acceleration of mobile robot and neural network is used for dynamic system identifier in slippery environment.
