AC/DC Adaptor Utilizing a Transformer with a New Plastic Magnetic Core (새로운 플라스틱 자성 코어를 가진 변압기를 이용한 AC/DC Adaptor)

  • This paper presents a novel transformer with a new plastic magnetic core for switching power supplies. The proposed plastic magnetic core was realized using a simple manufacturing process and it can be easily designed with various shapes, suggesting that the manufacturing cost of a power transformer can be reduced using the proposed plastic magnetic core. The possible application potentials of the proposed transformer a AC/DC adaptor utilizing a transformer with the plastic magnetic core are explored. The developed adaptor, that has a maximum power of 24W, switching frequency of 125kHz, and input voltage of 110/220V, has been successfully implemented. A maximum power conversion efficiency of the experimental converter was measured at 77%, and the output was regulated at 12V within 0.2% tolerance.

Standby Power Reduction Technique due to the Minimization of voltage difference between input and output in AC 60Hz (대기전력 최소화를 위한 교류전압 입력에 따른 저전압 구동회로 설계)

  • Recently, standby power reduction techniques of AC/DC adaptor were developed, consuming power almost arrived to 300mW level. The standby power losses are composed of the input filter loss 11.8mW, the control IC for AC/DC adaptor 18mW, the switching loss 9.53mW and the feedback loss 123mW. And there are the standby power reduction techniques. In this paper, in order to reduce the standby power of SMPS more, the loss due to a voltage difference between input and output is reduced by the control circuit which is composed of the low voltage driving circuit and voltage regulator. The low voltage driving circuit operates on the low voltage of input and off the high voltage. The low voltage driving IC was produced by the $1.0{\mu}m$, high voltage DMOS process.

A Study on Characteristics of Step-down Piezoelectric Transformer Using Transvers and Thickness Vibration mode (경방향과 두께방향 진동모드를 이용한 강압용 압전변압기의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents design and construct of flat type step-down piezoelectric transformer for the application to AC adaptor. This piezoelectric transformer operated in resonance vibration mode. In this paper, finite element method(FEM) was used for analysing piezoelectric transformers. Stress and electric field of the transformer were simulated at resonance frequency. Using this simulation results, we manufactured improved Rosen type piezoelecric transfomer and measured its output characteristics. As results, output power was linearly increased by increasing input power at resonance frequency and it was found that the transformer an invariable output power for input power. From these results, we expect that this piezoelecric transfomer can be applied to small size and low capacitive AC adaptor.

  • This paper presents a high-efficiency Switch Mode Line Transformer (SMLT) composed of load-shared dual modules, which is based on the AC/AC LLC resonant converter. Given that the conventional adaptor is usually composed of two power stages, namely, the PFC and DC/DC converters, its system size can be increased according to the output power. However, given that the proposed SMLT can separate the PFC converter from the adaptor, the size reduction of the system can be achieved. Meanwhile, the SMLT with a single module has the limit of the size reduction because of a high resonant current. Thus, it can be configured with dual or multiple modules to reduce the resonant current. Then, their load sharing can be guaranteed by only the proposed transformer structure without an extra current controller. The validity of the proposed converter is proven through a 850-W prototype.

  • This paper presents a new voltage current driven method for the synchronous rectifier (SR) in a flyback topology. The proposed synchronous rectfier of voltage-current driven can operate at wide load range with high efficiency. The gate voltage of FET in the synchronous rectifier is easily controlled by resistor ratio. regardless of line and load fluctuation. The 200W (l2V/17A) prototype is built and achiveved efficiency as high as 90% at 4A, 93.2% at 7A and full load.

  • In this paper, for adapter with power level below approximately 60W, a novel LLC resonant converter preceded by diode rectifier with a capacitor filter is presented. Due to the switching operation of the auxiliary switching device, the proposed LLC resonant converter can deliver power with the high efficiency characteristics from the universal line($110V_{AC}$/ $220V_{AC}$) and load conditions. The operating schemes on the proposed converter are analyzed and described. A 60W prototype product is built, tested and verified.

Apigenin Inhibits Tumor Necrosis Factor-α-Induced Production and Gene Expression of Mucin through Regulating Nuclear Factor-Kappa B Signaling Pathway in Airway Epithelial Cells

  • In the present study, we investigated whether apigenin significantly affects tumor necrosis factor-${\alpha}$ (TNF-${\alpha}$)-induced production and gene expression of MUC5AC mucin in airway epithelial cells. Confluent NCI-H292 cells were pretreated with apigenin for 30 min and then stimulated with TNF-${\alpha}$ for 24 h or the indicated periods. The MUC5AC mucin gene expression and mucin protein production were measured by reverse transcription - polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), respectively. Apigenin significantly inhibited MUC5AC mucin production and down-regulated MUC5AC gene expression induced by TNF-${\alpha}$ in NCI-H292 cells. To elucidate the action mechanism of apigenin, effect of apigenin on TNF-${\alpha}$-induced nuclear factor kappa B (NF-${\kappa}B$) signaling pathway was also investigated by western blot analysis. Apigenin inhibited NF-${\kappa}B$ activation induced by TNF-${\alpha}$. Inhibition of inhibitory kappa B kinase (IKK) by apigenin led to the suppression of inhibitory kappa B alpha ($I{\kappa}B{\alpha}$) phosphorylation and degradation, p65 nuclear translocation. This, in turn, led to the down-regulation of MUC5AC protein production in NCI-H292 cells. Apigenin also has an influence on upstream signaling of IKK because it inhibited the expression of adaptor protein, receptor interacting protein 1 (RIP1). These results suggest that apigenin can regulate the production and gene expression of mucin through regulating NF-${\kappa}B$ signaling pathway in airway epithelial cells.

AC/DC flyback converter without photo-coupler having Low standby power and precise control of the output voltage (저 대기전력 및 정확한 출력전압 제어가 가능한 포토커플러 없는 AC/DC 플라이백 컨버터)

  • 본 논문에서는 저 대기전력 구현이 가능하며 정확한 출력전압 제어가 가능한 SSR(Secondary Side Regulator) 플라이백 컨버터를 제안하였다. 제안 SSR 플라이백 컨버터는 2차 측에 control IC를 사용하여 별도의 제어기(TL431) 및 포토커플러를 제거하여 구조가 간단하고 대기모드 시 TL431의 바이어스 전류에 의한 전력소모를 줄일 수 있으므로 대기전력을 최소화 할 수 있으며 출력전압을 직접 검출하여 정확하게 출력을 제어할 수 있다. 한편 1차 측의 위치한 게이트 구동을 위해 절연된 1-2차 측간 신호를 전송하는 PET(Pulse Edge Transmitter)를 제안하였으며 제안 방식은 IC로의 직접화가 매우 용이하여 1-2차 측 IC와 제안 PET를 one-chip화 할 수 있다. 제안 회로의 타당성 검증을 위해 10W급 Adaptor의 시작품을 제작하였고, 이를 이용한 실험결과를 바탕으로 제안 시스템의 타당성을 검증한다.

  • In order to drive motor control system precisely, the motor is to be controlled by mmfs and current with sinusoidal waveforms. In this paper the Delta Modulation (DM) Technique is used for generating PWM pulse with sinusoidal waveform. However the motor currents yet contain odd harmonics due to leakage inductances, speed and exitation. To reduce harmonics, the parameter adaptive control method is introduced. That is, Req.C parameter of Delta Modulator is controlled adaptively by parameter adaptor. The adaptive signal is achieved by the difference between motor current and reference waveform, and this signal is converted to the voltage commend signal by adaptive mechanism. The test reslts show that this system is operated smoothly over a wide range of motor speed and motor current is controlled to be sinusoidal waveform adaptively.

A Study on 60W Class Ultra-small Adapter with Active Snubber Type Flyback Converter (액티브 스너버형 플라이백 컨버터를 적용한 60W급 초소형 어댑터에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, an active snubber type flyback converter was applied to a 60W class adapter and its test results are reported by producing a prototype. Especially, the prototype of the adapter was designed for both input voltage of 110V and 220V. The output voltage was designed for 60W with 19V class which is the most commonly used in laptops. The prototype was designed to a volume of about $50cm^3$ and a power density of about $1.22W/cm^3$ to minimize the size and verify portability. The maximum efficiency of the prototype was 90.88% at its maximum load of 60W against input voltage change and 91.04% was observed at 60W under input voltage of 220V. Furthermore, the stability of the output voltage against load power was observed to be within about 0.07%.
