  • This paper analyzes the interference effect of WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) service on WiBro(Wireless Broadband) service in adjacent frequency band by using Monte Carlo method. For the analysis, we make scenario that WLAN service operates on frequency band of 2401 MHz ~ 2423 MHz and WiBro service operates on frequency band of 698 MHz ~ 704 MHz. In case of WiBro receiver is close to WLAN AP(Access Point), the interference will be increased. So, we calculate the protection distance between WiBro receiver and WLAN AP to meet interference probability of 5 % below and required interference power of WLAN AP to meet interference probability of 5 % below in the case of fixed protection distance. As a result, the protection distance of 60 m and -9.5 dBm of required interference power of WLAN AP at 10 m of the fixed protection distance are analyzed.

  • This paper proposes a communication distance performance evaluation method for mobility of service robots equipped with a Wi-Fi module. Service robots have function of mobile communication system according to classified services and utilize a (preferred) communication method, wireless lan(IEEE802.11 a/b/gin) communication method of ISM band(2.4GHz and 5.8GHz). For evaluating degradation performance of wireless data for the service robot's mobility. We measured and presented reference vectors obtained by utilizing a distance attenuation correlation method in the real world environment. To evaluate performance of the proposed method, path loss of reference vectors was assigned to the Azimuth 301W and then transmission rate and the transmit throughput of the test sample were measured by the Chariot. The proposed measurement method is necessary for securing wireless LAN communication distance for mobility of mobile smart device and service robots. In addition, if the proposed measurement method os adopted, It would be expected that mobile smart device vendors would utilize the method as an effective wireless LAN mobility communication distance performance evaluation method.

  • This paper generally relates to the field of wireless local area networks(WLANs), and more particularly, to AP selection and association methods for the performance of a station. In these days, IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN network is widely deployed and used as an emerging service to connect high-speed Internet in the public wireless environment. But, if there are many users in hot spot area, they suffer a severe decrease of performance. Thus it needs an association and access control mechanism especially when it is used in the public environment. In this paper, we suggest a selection and association method using Beacon or Probe Response frames based IEEE 802.11. Station selects AP using the information of the capacity area in a Beacon or a Probe Response frame. According to the present paper, an association method for a public WLAN service, which includes a WLAN user terminal and an AP for relaying WLAN communications to and from the user terminal, includes the steps of the user terminal asking the AP's states for access to a radio channel; and the station selects and associates with the AP According to the above-described selection in a high speed wireless Internet service based on public WLAN technologies that are currently in operations. Further, it is possible to improve the efficiency of network management.

  • This paper explores the throughput of DCF protocol with both the traffic intensity and MSDU size at the MAC layer in the 802.11a wireless LAN. By exploring the throughput of DCF protocol with the data rate of 6Mbps, 12 Mbps, 24 Mbps and 54 Mbps, we find the fact that the less the data rate be, the higher the throughput be. We also find, from the throughput calculation by means of traffic intensity and MSDU size, that the longer the MSDU size is, the higher the throughput is. We also found the traffic intensity that the throughput is at the maximum point with the fixed MSDU size.

  • The IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN (Local Area Network) is widely used for wireless access due to its easy deployment and low cost. Multicast in wireless LANs is very useful for transmitting data to multiple receivers compared to unicast to each receiver. In the IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, multicast transmissions are unreliable since multicast data packets are transmitted without any feedback from receivers. Recently, various protocols have been proposed to enhance the reliability of multicast transmissions. They still have serious problems in reliability and efficiency due to the excessive control overhead by the use of a large number of control packets in the error recovery process, and due to a large number of retransmissions to satisfy all receivers. In this paper, we propose an effective scheme called PTRM(Proactive Transmission based Reliable Multicast). The proposed scheme uses a block erasure code to generate parity packets and to reduce the impact of independent packet error among receivers. After generating parity packets, the PTRM transmits data packets as many as receivers need to recover error, and then requests feedback from them. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme provides reliable multicast while minimizing the feedback overhead.

  • Both security enhancement in wireless and fast access for mobility are required to employ wireless LAN in ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems). However, for the case of employing IEEE 802.11i security standard, it is known that the user authentication procedure of IEEE 802.1x and 4-way handshake procedure for stronger security enforcement may not be suitable for ITS due to its large delay. In this paper, we propose fast authentication method to resolve the above authentication delay problem, and verify its performance via simulation analysis.
