  • Transparent xBa(La$_{1}$2/Nb$_{1}$2/)O$_{3}$-(1-x)Pb(Zr, Ti)O$_{3}$ (x=8.5, 9.0[mol.%], Zr/Ti=70/30~40/60) ceramics were fabricated by the two-stage sintering method, the electrooptic properties were investigated with Ba(La$_{1}$2/Nb$_{1}$2/)O$_{3}$ content and Zr/Ti composition ratio. Decreasing the Zr/Ti ratio, the electrooptic property was changed from a quadratic electrooptic effect to a linear electrooptic effcet. In the BLN-PZT 9.0/50/50 specimen having the tetragonal structure, the linear electrooptic coefficient had the highest value of 6.01*10$^{-10}$ [m/V] and in the BLN-PZT 9.0/55/45 specimen which located near the MPB region, the quadratic electrooptic coefficient had the highest value of 10.53*10$^{-16}$ [m$^{2}$/V$^{2}$].

  • The experiment on characteristic of $NO_x$ removal for $BaTiO_3$-sludge hybrid packed bed type reactor was conducted. Gas flow rate was 5(${\ell}/min$) and NO concentration was 50, 100 and 150(ppm). The effect on volume percent of $BaTiO_3$ to sludge was investigated, sludge pellets was added to $BaTiO_3$ pellets to increase $NO_x$ removal rate. In the result, when sludge pellets was added, NO removal rate of $BaTiO_3$ - sludge hybrid type was increased from 90.6% to 95%. However $NO_2$ decreased from 88ppm to 10ppm. $O_3$ decreased from 77ppm to 2ppm. $NO_x$ removal rate was increased to 74%.

  • The 0.8Ba($Zn_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$-0.2Ba($Co_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties of the 0.8BZT-0.2BCN ceramics with the sintering temperature were investigated by XRD and SEM. The 0.8BZT-0.2BCN ceramics had a superstructure reflection plane of (100), (200). Increasing the sintering temperature. the ordering parameter of B-site atoms were increased. The lattice constant of 0.8BZT-0.2BCN ceramics was 3.97${\AA}$. Increasing the sintering temperature, the average gram sizes were increased. In the case of the 0.8BZT-0.2BCN ceramics sintered at 1500$^{\circ}C$, the average grain size and bulk density were 1.56${\mu}m$, 6.93$g/cm^3$, respectively.

  • Nitrifier consortium entrapped in Ca and Ba-alginate beads were packed into two reactors and studied for removing ammonia-nitrogen in aquaculture system. The ammonia-nitrogen concentration of the influent was continually kept about 2 ppm. At the hydraulic residence time of 0.6 hours, ammonia-nitrogen removal amount of two reactors was about 52.6 and 51.0 g $NH_3-N/m^3/day$, respectively. The ability of adjusting to an impulsive leading which was happened according to variations of HRT was better at Ba-alginate reactor, but its discrepancy was not so large. At the respect of removing ammonium-nitrogen, two reactors showed the similar ability of treating recirculating water.

Plant Production from Desiccated Somatic Embryos of Acanthopanax chiisanensis (지리오가피 (Acanthopanax chiisanensis) 체세포배의 건조처리를 통한 식물체 증식)

  • An efficient method of plant regeneration from Acanthopanax chiisanensis somatic embryos was developed. Cotyledonary somatic embryos were obtained in liquid Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium from embryogenic cell suspension cultures. They were desiccated for 0 to 72 hr and then cultured on MS medium containing NAA, BA, GA$_3$, (0-0.5mg/L). The highest multiple shoots formation (100%) was obtained from 72 hr desiccated somatic embryos on ifs medium with 0.5mg/L NAA+0.5mg/L BA or 0.5 mg/L NAA+0.5mg/L BA+0.5mg/L GA$_3$ after 6 weeks culture. Plant conversion from multiple shoots was not high. The highest plant conversion from multiple shoots was obtained on 1/3MS medium with 1.0mg/L GA$_3$. Converted plantlets were transferred to ex vitro condition and the highest survival rate (70%) of the plantlets was obtained on plastic pots containing vermiculite and sand. These results indicate that micropropagation procedure can be applied for an efficient mass propagation of Acanthopanax chiisanensis.

  • $Ba_2Mg_{0.5}Co_{1.5}(Fe_{0.99}In_{0.01})_{12}O_{22}$ was prepared by the conventional solid-state reaction method, and studied by x-ray diffractometer, vibrating sample magnetometer, and Mossbauer spectrometer. The crystal structure was determined to be a single-phased rhombohedral with space group R-3m. Magnetization value were $M_s$ = 28.6 emu/g at 295 K. The hysteresis loops indicate that all the samples are ferrimagnetic behaviors. Mossbauer spectra of $Ba_2Mg_{0.5}Co_{1.5}(Fe_{0.99}In_{0.01})_{12}O_{22}$ have been 6-sextet taken at various temperatures ranging from 4.2 to 620 K. Based on the isomer shift (${\delta}$) values of all samples, the charge states were found to be $Fe^{3+}$ state at all temperatures, the Curie temperature was determined to be 630 K by the ZVC curve.

Microwave Dielectric Properties of the $BaO-(Nd,Bi)_2 O_3-TiO_2$$_2$ Ceramic for Mobile Communication Component (이동 통신 부품에 이용되는 $BaO-(Nd,Bi)_2 O_3-TiO_2$계 마이크로파 유전체의 유전 특성)

  • The microwave dielectric properties of X BaO-0.15($Nd_{0.87}Bi_{0.13})_2O_3-(0.85-X)TiO_2 (X=0.14~0.17) and 0.16BaO-0.15(Bi_xNd_{1-x})_2O_3-0.69TiO_2$ (X=0.12~0.15) ceramics sintered at 1320~$1380^{\circ}C$ were investigated. The microwave dielectric properties of X BaO-0.15(Nd_{0.87}Bi_{0.13})_2O_3-(0.85-X)TiO_2$ (X=0.14~0.17) can be controlled effectively by adjusting X content : with increasing X from 0.14 to 0.17 both dielectric constant and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency decreased from 94.6 to 86 and from 22 ppm/^${\circ}C to -7 ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively, while quality factor increased from 1300 to 1920 (at 4GHz). The microwave dielectric properties of 0.16BaO-0.15(Bi_x/Nd_{1-x2}O_3 -0.69TiO_2$ (X=0.12~0.15) can be controlled effectively by adjusting X content : with increasing X from 0.12 to 0.15 both quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency decreased from 1920 to 1430 and from 9 ppm/^${\circ}C to -10 ppm/^{\circ}C$, respectively, while dielectric constant increased from 87.5 to 92.6.

Simple Purification of BA-RGD Protein Based on CaCl2/EDTA Treatment and Inclusion Body Washing (CaCl2/EDTA 및 비이온성 계면활성제 활용 Inclusion Body 정제법을 이용한 BA-RGD 단백질의 생산)

  • The limited productivity of natural shell matrix proteins has hampered the investigation of their biochemical properties and practical applications, although biominerals in nature obtained by organic-inorganic assemblies have attractive mechanical and biological properties. Here, we prepared a vector for the expression of a fusion protein of a shell matrix protein from Pinctada fucata (named as GRP_BA) with the GRGDSP residue. The fusion protein of BA-RGD was simply produced in E. coli and purified through sequential steps including the treatment with $CaCl_2$ and EDTA solution for cell membrane washing, mechanical cell disruption and the application of non-ionic surfactant of Triton X-100 for BA-RGD inclusion body washing. The production yield was approximately 60 mg/L, any other protein band was not observed in SDS-PAGE and it was estimated that above 97% endotoxin was removed compared to the endotoxin level of whole cell. This study showed this simple and easy purification approach could be applied to the purification of BA-RGD fusion protein. It is expected that the protein could be utilized for the preparation of biominerals in practical aspects.

Study of the Electrochemical Properties of Li4Ti5O12 Doped with Ba and Sr Anodes for Lithium-Ion Secondary Batteries

  • The spinel material $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ has attracted considerable attention as an anode electrode material for many battery applications owing to its light weight and high energy density. However, the real capacity of $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ powder as determined by the solid-state method is lower than the ideal capacity. In this study, we investigated the effect of the dopants in M-doped spinel $Ba_xLi_{4-2x}Ti_5O_{12}$(x=0.005, 0.05, 0.1) powders prepared by the solid-state reaction method and used as the anode material in lithiumion batteries. The results confirmed the effect of the Ba and Sr dopants on the powder properties of the spinel $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$, which exhibited a pure spinel structure without any secondary phase in its XRD pattern. Moreover, the electrochemical properties of the spinel M-LTO materials were investigated using a half cell. The electrochemical data show that cells with anodes made of undoped $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ and Ba- and Sr-doped $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ have discharge capacities of 97, 130, and 112 mAh/g, respectively, at the first cycle. Moreover, the Ba- and Sr-doped spinel $Li_4Ti_5O_{12}$ demonstrated good properties in the mid-voltage range at 1.55 V, showing stable cyclic voltammogram properties which surpassed those of the same material without Ba or Sr at 1 C after 100 cycles.

Properties of Polymer Cement Mortar Based on Styrene-Butyl Acrylate according to Emulsifier and Monomer Ratios (유화제 및 단량체비에 따른 스티렌-부틸 아크릴레이트계 폴리머 시멘트 모르타르의 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the effect of the emulsifier ratio on the properties of the polymer cement mortars based on styrene-butyl acrylate (S/BA) latexes, and to obtain necessary basic data to develop appropriate latexes for cement modifiers. The polymer dispersions for cement modifiers was synthesized using styrene and butyl acrylate. Polymer cement mortars based on S/BA latexes were prepared with various monomer and emulsifier ratios, and their water-cement ratio, air content, flexural and compressive strengths, water absorption and chloride ion penetration were tested. From the test results, the maximum flexural and compressive strengths of polymer cement mortars based on S/BA latexes were obtained at a bound styrene content of 60% and an emulsifier ratio of 6%. Also, the water absorption and chloride ion penetration depth are greatly affected by the polymer-cement ratio rather than the bound styrene and emulsifier content. Accordingly, it is judged that S/BA latexes can be used place of the conventional polymer dispersions of cement modifier.
