Rheological and Baking Studies of Composite Flour from Wheat and Naked Barley (밀-쌀보리 복합분의 물리적 성질 및 제빵 시험)

  • Barley (variety, Bangsa No. 6) was milled on a stone mill with 60% flour extraction. Rheological and baking properties of composites containing 5 and 10% of the barley flour with wheat flour (11.4% protein) were investigated. As the barley flour level was increased, amylograph paste viscosities increased at all reference points and farinograph stability decreased. However, no significant differences were noted in the proportional number measured with extensigraph with the various flours. Loaf volume and the staling rate of bread decreased and increased respectively as the barley flour level was increased.

A Study on the Difference of Rainfall Intensity According to the Omission of Short-Term (20, 30, 40, 50 Minutes) Rainfall Data in Inducing I-D-F Curves (I-D-F곡선 유도 시 짧은 지속기간(20분, 30분, 40분, 50분) 강우자료 누락에 따른 강우강도 차이 고찰)

  • I-D-F curves were induced by Box-Cox transformation using rainfall data from five major cities in Korea: Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon, and Gwangju, as well as from Sancheong (South Gyeongsang province) and Yeongcheon (North Gyeongsang province) stations. The practicality of the Box-Cox transformation is more scalable than the traditional method of frequency analysis in terms of applicability because it is available even if the analysis data are insufficient to perform general frequency analysis and do not produce an appropriate probability density function. For the case in which rainfall data for the entire period (10-1440 minutes) and short-term period (20, 30, 40, 50 minutes) at the foregoing 7 stations are omitted, there was a relative error of -23.0 % to 14.7 % at a duration of 10 to 60 minutes below the 100-year frequency. Accordingly, rainfall analysis requires inducing I-D-F curves, including for the short term (20, 30, 40, 50 minutes), and if rainfall data are omitted for the short term (20, 30, 40, 50 minutes), it is necessary to increase the existing margin rate depending on the point in order to ensure the safe design of small-scale hydraulic structures.

Blood Pressure, Pulse Rate and Temperature Changes of the Ipsilateral Upper Extremity after Unilateral Stellate Ganglion Block (편측 성상신경절 차단에 의한 혈압 맥박 및 상지 피부온도의 변화)

  • In the past decades there has been a growth of interest in the use of stellate ganglion block (SGB) as part of the diagnosis and therapy for the disease of the head, neck and upper extremities. For the evaluation of changes in hemodynamics and temperature of the affected extremity after the SGB, unilateral SGB (either right or left) was performed by local injection of 10 ml of 1% lidocaine without epinephrine in 45 patients (right side SGB: 25, left side SGB: 20) with various diseases. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate and skin temperature of the ipsilateral hand were studied before and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 15, 30 and 60 minutes after the block. The results were as follows: 1) Changes of blood pressure: Systolic and distolic blood pressure after either right or left side SGB showed no statistically significant change. 2) Changes of pulse rate: While the left side SGB showed a mild decrease without statistical significance, the right side SGB showed a statistically significant decrease at 30 and 60 minutes after the block (p<0.05). 3) Changes of skin temperature of the blocked hand: Either side SGB produced a gradual increase in temperature with time and showed statistical significance from 10 minutes in the left side block (p<0.01), and a from 10 minutes after the block in the right side (p<0.01). Both sides SGB showed a maximal increase at 30 minutes after the block and a small decrease at 60 minutes after the block compared to the 30 minutes value. 4) Despite the successful SGB. 4 of 45 patients failed to produce a significant increase in skin temperature on the affected upper extremity. In conclusion, unilateral SGB with 1% lidocaine at the 6th cervical vertebral level is a safe method for use on an outpatient basis, and an increase in skin temperature in the affected upper extremity is necessary to confirm the successful therapeutic effect on disease of the upper extremity.

Comparison of the Uptakes of Tc-99m MIBI and Tc-99m Tetrofosmin in A549, an MRP-expressing Cancer Cell, In Vitro and In Vivo (MRP발현 인체 비소세포 폐암 A549에서 Tc-99m MIBI와 Tc-99m Tetrofosmin섭취의 비교)

  • Purpose: Uptakes of Tc-99m MIBI (MIBI) and Tc-99m tetrofosmin (tetrofosmin) in human non-small cell lung cancer A549, multidrug-resistance associated protein (MRP) expressing cell, were investigated in vitro and in vivo. Materials and Methods: Western blot analysis and immunohistochemistry were used for detection of MRP in A549 cells with anti-MRPr1 antibody. Cellular uptakes of two tracers were evaluated at $100{\mu}M$ of verapamil (Vrp), $50{\mu}M$ of cyclosporin A (CsA) and $25{\mu}M$ of butoxysulfoximide (BSO) after incubation with MIBI and tetrofosmin for 30 and 50 min at $37^{\circ}C$, using single cell suspensions at $1{\times}10^6cells/ml$. Radioactivities in supernatants and pellets were measured with gamma well counter. A549 cells were inoculated in each flanks of 24 nude mice. Group 1 (Gr1) and Gr3 mice were treated with only MIBI or tetrofosmin, and Gr2 and Gr4 mice were treated with 70mg/kg of CsA i.p. for 1 hour before injection of 370KBq of MIBI or tetrofosmin. Mice were sacrificed at 10, 60 and 240 min. Radioactivities of organs and tumors were expressed as percentage injected dose per gram of tissue (%ID/gm). Results: Western blot analysis of the A549 cells detected expression of MRPr1 (190 kDa) and immunohistochemical staining of tumor tissue for MRPr1 revealed brownish staining in cell membrane but not P-gp. Upon incubating A549 cells for 60 min with MIBI and tetrofosmin, cellular uptake of MIBI was higher than that of tetrofosmin. Coincubation with modulators resulted in an increase in cellular uptakes of MIBI and tetrofosmin. Percentage increase of MIBI was higher than that of tetrofosmin with Vrp by 623% and 427%, CsA by 753% and 629% and BSO by 219% and 140%, respectively. There was no significant difference in tumoral uptakes of MIBI and tetrofosmin between Gr1 and Gr3. Percentage increases in MIBI (114% at 10 min, 257% at 60 min, 396% at 240 min) and tetrofosmin uptake (110% at 10 min, 205% at 60 min, 410% at 240 min) were progressively higher by the time up to 240 min with CsA. Conclusion: These results indicate that MIBI and tetrofosmin are suitable tracers for imaging MRP-mediated drug resistance in A549 tumors. MIBI may be a better tracer than tetrofosmin for evaluating MRP reversal effect of modulators.

The Effect of Moisture Control on Fermentation Characteristics of Barley and Rye Silages (수분 조절이 보리와 호밀 silage의 발효특성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the effect of moisture level at ensiling on fermentation characteristics of barley and rye silage. The moisture levels, 60 (low; LM), 70(medium; MM) and 80% (high; HM), were controled by adding water or pre-wilting. Barley silage had higher pH and latate:acetate ratio in LM than the other treatments, but those of rye in MM were higher. The concentrations of lactate, total FA and acetate in HM were higher than the other treatments, but propionate concentration in LM was higher than HM. Total N concentrations of barley and rye were highest in MM and LM, respectively. The $NH_3-N$ concentration and total N:$NH_3-N$ ratio of barley were higher in HM than those in LM and MM. With increasing moisture content, buffering capacity of barley and rye silages increased, whereas decreased by increase of pH. There was a negative correlation between moisture content vs. pH of barley and rye silages. However, moisture content vs. the concentrations of total VFA and $NH_3-N$ and the ratio of total N:$NH_3-N$ had a positive correlation. Tn conclusion, the ideal moisture content of barley and rye for silage was 70-80%, but silage quality could be rapidly decreased by pre-wilting to 60% moisture content.

Pretreahent and Saccharification of Poplar by Solvent Extraction (유기용매 추출법에 의한 포플라의 전처리 및 당화)

  • The effect of the pretreatment by solvent extraction on the saccharification of poplar (Populus euramencana) was studied. The solvent system was Phenol/H2O(Uncatalyzed)and Phenol/H2O/HCl catalyst system. When the poplar was pretreated by uncatalyzed system, the best result of the saccharification was total of 43.9 g/1 reducing sugar produced and 83.5% of carbohydrated conversion was obtained at 19$0^{\circ}C$, 60 minutes. Total wood yield and the lignin removal were 46.3% and 98.2% respectively. The use of acid catalyst was unsuitable to increase he efficiency of saccharification.
