Performance of V2O5-TiO2 Catalyst Prepared by Various Methods for Removal of Hydrogen Sulfide Emitted from Steel Smelting Process (다양한 제조방법으로 제조된 V2O5-TiO2 촉매를 이용한 제련공정에서 발생한 황화수소 제거능 비교)

  • V2O5-TiO2 catalysts were prepared by various methods. V2O5-TiO2 were prepared by sol-gel method with different drying conditions (aerogel and xerogel), and V2O5 supported on TiO2 obtained by sol-gel method with precipitation-deposition method and impregnation method. The performance of the V2O5-TiO2 catalysts was investigated for the selective oxidation of hydrogen sulfide in the stream containing both ammonia and excess water. All the catalysts showed good dispersion of vanadium and they had high H2S conversion with no or little production of sulfur dioxide. The V2O5-TiO2 aerogel catalyst prepared by sol-gel method with drying under super critical condition had the highest surface area which led to better catalytic activity compared to those by other synthesis methods.

Detection of Surface Cracks in Eggshell by Machine Vision and Artificial Neural Network (기계 시각과 인공 신경망을 이용한 파란의 판별)

  • A machine vision system was built to obtain single stationary image from an egg. This system includes a CCD camera, an image processing board and a lighting system. A computer program was written to acquire, enhance and get histogram from an image. To minimize the evaluation time, the artificial neural network with the histogram of the image was used for eggshell evaluation. Various artificial neural networks with different parameters were trained and tested. The best network(64-50-1 and 128-10-1) showed an accuracy of 87.5% in evaluating eggshell. The comparison test for the elapsed processing time per an egg spent by this method(image processing and artificial neural network) and by the processing time per an egg spent by this method(image processing and artificial neural network) and by the previous method(image processing only) revealed that it was reduced to about a half(5.5s from 10.6s) in case of cracked eggs and was reduced to about one-fifth(5.5s from 21.1s) in case of normal eggs. This indicates that a fast eggshell evaluation system can be developed by using machine vision and artificial neural network.

  • Survey of the infection rate of Dirofilaria immitis in Korean dogs was made in Chunju area by means of Kume's Aectone-Concentrating method. During the period of 60 days(July August) 1cc of the blood was collected from Vena mediana antebrachii of each of 205 dogs over the age of one year regardless of its sex.(In this case 2cc syringe was used.) Time for collecting the blood was from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The collected blood was checked, using Kume's acetone-concentrating method.: The results were summarized as followings. Microfilaria was detected in 47 dogs(23%) out of 205. Based on the dog's age, microfilaria possitive rate is 15.5% (12 dogs out of 77) at one age; 24%(14 dogs out of 59) at the age of two; 28%(12 dogs out of 43) at the age of three; 5%(5 dogs out of 15) at the age of four.

  • A spectrophotometric assay technique is descriead for the measurement of free SH-groups in the enzyme reaction mixture. The method utilizes a new substrate, S-hippuryl-thioglycolyl-glycine(S-Hip-thioglycol-Gly) which is the basis for a convenient assay of angiotensin-converting enzyme and other dipeptidyl carboxypeptidases. This substrate contains an appropriately located thioester linkage that is hydrolyzed by the converting enzyme and other dipeptidyl carboxypeptidases. One of the products, thioglycolyl glycine, is readily measured by reaction with Ellman's reagent, 5,5'-dithio-bis-(2-nitrobenzoic acid), DTNB, to produce 5-thio-2-nitrobenzoic acid which has a strong absorption band at 410 nm. The method is sensitive (${\varepsilon}M = 1.36{\times}10^4$ at 412 nm) and can be applied as a continuous recording with DTNB present in the enzymatic reaction mixture.

  • The top-down construction method is an excavation and substructure construction method by excavating earth and building slabs from the ground level to the bottom of a building. The top-down method can be categorized into several types by its process and other technical details. Some of commonly used top-down methods in Korea today are S.O.G., N.S.T.D., and S.P.S. Among these, one method is chosen depending on construction field conditions, cost, construction time and so on. This study explores several factors that may affect the selection of a top-down method. This paper reports preliminary survey results with 54 top-down construction experts and comparison results of 5 top-down construction sites.

  • A local convergence analysis of Newton's method for perturbed generalized equations is provided in a Banach space setting. Using center Lipschitzian conditions which are actually needed instead of Lipschitzian hypotheses on the $Fr\'{e}chet$-derivative of the operator involved and more precise estimates under less computational cost we provide a finer convergence analysis of Newton's method than before [5]-[7].

Traffic Seasonality aware Threshold Adjustment for Effective Source-side DoS Attack Detection

  • In order to detect Denial of Service (DoS) attacks, victim-side detection methods are used popularly such as static threshold-based method and machine learning-based method. However, as DoS attacking methods become more sophisticated, these methods reveal some natural disadvantages such as the late detection and the difficulty of tracing back attackers. Recently, in order to mitigate these drawbacks, source-side DoS detection methods have been researched. But, the source-side DoS detection methods have limitations if the volume of attack traffic is relatively very small and it is blended into legitimate traffic. Especially, with the subtle attack traffic, DoS detection methods may suffer from high false positive, considering legitimate traffic as attack traffic. In this paper, we propose an effective source-side DoS detection method with traffic seasonality aware adaptive threshold. The threshold of detecting DoS attack is adjusted adaptively to the fluctuated legitimate traffic in order to detect subtle attack traffic. Moreover, by understanding the seasonality of legitimate traffic, the threshold can be updated more carefully even though subtle attack happens and it helps to achieve low false positive. The extensive evaluation with the real traffic logs presents that the proposed method achieves very high detection rate over 90% with low false positive rate down to 5%.

  • We had reported that s-triazine can readily be converted into the corresponding 5-substituted pyrimide. In order to develop new synthetic method of 5-fluorouracil, we tried to replace eliminating fragment, 1, 3-dimethylurea, by fluoroacetamide, which was expected to undergo nucleophilic attack by proton extraction of both .alpha.-hydrogen and aminohydrogen by lithium diisopropylamide (LDA). We found that 5-fluorouracil could be transformed from s-triazine under strong base condition like LDA as well as other 5-substituted pyrimidines.

  • In this paper, we have designed a MIMO system using a W-OFDM modulation scheme. And then, we have evaluated and analyzed synchronization performance of the system. In this paper, we have considered Schmidl's method, Minn's method, and Park's method. As simulation results, Schmidl's method has wide plateau of timing metric and Park's method has impulse-shape timing metric. Also, we can confirm that timing metric characteristic of synchronization estimator is not changed by adjusting extension length of W-OFDM system. Because of this, we can confirm that synchronization method of OFDM can be effectively used in MIMO system using W-OFDM modulation.

CONVERGENCE OF NEWTON'S METHOD FOR SOLVING A CLASS OF QUADRATIC MATRIX EQUATIONS

  • We consider the most generalized quadratic matrix equation, Q(X) = $A_7XA_6XA_5+A_4XA_3+A_2XA_1+A_0=0$, where X is m ${\times}$ n, $A_7$, $A_4$ and $A_2$ are p ${\times}$ m, $A_6$ is n ${\times}$ m, $A_5$, $A_3$ and $A_l$ are n ${\times}$ q and $A_0$ is p ${\times}$ q matrices with complex elements. The convergence of Newton's method for solving some different types of quadratic matrix equations are considered and we show that the elementwise minimal positive solvents can be found by Newton's method with the zero starting matrices. We finally give numerical results.
