  • This work highlights extraction and removal of Lignosulfonate using sunflower oil-Tri-n-octylamine (TOA) system in bulk liquid membrane transport. Maximum extraction and recovery percentages of 92.4% and 75.2% were achieved. Optimum manifold operating conditions were: 4 vol.% TOA, $2{\pm}0.1$ feed phase pH, 300 rpm stirring speed, at $40^{\circ}C$ with 0.2 (M) $Na_2SO_4$ solution. 1:2 (organic/aqueous) and 1:1 (aqueous/aqueous) phase ratios produced best results. Extraction (36.85 kJ/mol) was found to be intermediate controlled and stripping (54.79 kJ/mol) was chemical reaction controlled. Kinetic estimation of data with higher rate constants for stripping vis-${\grave{a}}$-vis extraction showed latter to be rate determining.

  • Human apparent age estimation has become a popular research topic and attracted great attention in recent years due to its wide applications, such as personal security and law enforcement. To achieve the goal of age estimation, a large number of methods have been pro-posed, where the models derived through the cumulative attribute coding achieve promised performance by preserving the neighbor-similarity of ages. However, these methods afore-mentioned ignore the geometric structure of extracted facial features. Indeed, the geometric structure of data greatly affects the accuracy of prediction. To this end, we propose an age estimation algorithm through joint feature selection and manifold learning paradigms, so-called Feature-selected and Geometry-preserved Least Square Regression (FGLSR). Based on this, our proposed method, compared with the others, not only preserves the geometry structures within facial representations, but also selects the discriminative features. Moreover, a deep learning extension based FGLSR is proposed later, namely Feature selected and Geometry preserved Neural Network (FGNN). Finally, related experiments are conducted on Morph2 and FG-Net datasets for FGLSR and on Morph2 datasets for FGNN. Experimental results testify our method achieve the best performances.

  • The effects of stroke change on turbulent kinetic energy for the in-cylinder flow of a four-valve SI engine were studied. For this study, the same intake manifold, head, cylinder, and the piston were used to examine turbulence characteristics in two different strokes. In-cylinder flow measurements were conducted using three dimensional LDV system. The measurement method, which simultaneously collects 3-D velocity data, allowed a evaluation of turbulent kinetic energy inside a cylinder. High levels of turbulent kinetic energy were found in regions of high shear flow, attributed to the collisions of intake flows. These specific results support the more general conclusion that the inlet conditions play the dominant role in the generation of the turbulence fields during the intake stroke. However, in the absence of two counter rotating vortices, this intake generated turbulent kinetic energy continues to decrease but at a much faster rate.

  • Let L(M) be the bundle of all linear frames over a smooth manifold M, $u$ an arbitrarily given point of L(M), and ${\nabla}:\mathfrak{X}(M){\times}\mathfrak{X}(M){\rightarrow}\mathfrak{X}(M)$ a linear connection on M. Then the following result is well known: the horizontal subspace at the point $u$ may be written in terms of local coordinates of $u{\in}L(M)$ and Christoel's symbols defined by ${\nabla}$. This result is very fundamental on the study of the theory of connections. In this paper we show that the local expression of the horizontal subspace at the point u does not depend on the choice of a local coordinate system around the point $u{\in}L(M)$, which is rarely seen.

  • Let $f\;:\;M\;{\rightarrow}\;M$ be a diffeomorphism on a closed $C^{\infty}$ manifold. Let $\Lambda$ be a transitive set. In this paper, we show that (i) $C^1$-generically, $f$ has the shadowing property on a locally maximal $\Lambda$ if and only if $\Lambda$ is hyperbolic, (ii) f has the $C^1$-stably shadowing property on $\Lambda$ if and only if $\Lambda$ is hyperbolic.

  • Elastica is known as classical curve that is a solution of variational problem, which minimize a thin inextensible wire's bending energy. Studies on elastica has been conducted in Euclidean space firstly, then it has been extended to Riemannian manifold by giving different characterizations. In this paper, we focus on energy of the elastic curve in a Lie group. We attepmt to compute its energy by using geometric description of the curvature and the torsion of the trajectory of the elastic curve of the trajectory of the moving particle in the Lie group. Finally, we also investigate the relation between energy of the elastic curve and energy of the same curve in Frenet vector fields in the Lie group.

  • It is well known that critical points of the total scalar curvature functional S on the space of all smooth Riemannian structures of volume 1 on a compact manifold M are exactly the Einstein metrics. When the domain of S is restricted to the space of constant scalar curvature metrics, there has been a conjecture that a critical point is isometric to a standard sphere. In this paper we investigate the relationship between the first Betti number and stable minimal surfaces, and study the analytic properties of stable minimal surfaces in M for n = 3.

  • Essentially combination of spark ignition and compression ignition engines, the HCCI engine exhibits low NOx and Particulate Matter (PM) emissions as well as high efficiency under part load. This paper is concerned with the Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engine as a new concept in engines and a power source for future automotive applications. In this research, a 4 cylinder diesel engine was converted into a HCCI engine, and propane was used as the fuel. The purpose of this research is to show the effects of fuel flow rate and the temperature of the intake manifold on the performance and exhaust of an HCCI engine.

  • The present paper mainly treats with almost f-cosymplectic manifolds. This notion contains almost cosymplectic and almost Kenmotsu manifolds. Almost cosymplectic manifolds introduced in [1] have been studied by many schalors, say [2], [3], [4], and almost Kenmotsu manifolds introduced in [5] have been studied in [6], [7]. The present paper studies some geometrical and topological properties of the canonical foliation defined by the contact distribution of an almost f-cosymplectic manifold. The purpose of the present paper is to extend the results obtained in [8], [9].

  • In this paper, we investigate curvature-adapted and proper complex equifocal submanifolds in a symmetric space of non-compact type. The class of these submanifolds contains principal orbits of Hermann type actions as homogeneous examples and is included by that of curvature-adapted and isoparametric submanifolds with flat section. First we introduce the notion of a focal point of non-Euclidean type on the ideal boundary for a submanifold in a Hadamard manifold and give the equivalent condition for a curvature-adapted and complex equifocal submanifold to be proper complex equifocal in terms of this notion. Next we show that the complex Coxeter group associated with a curvature-adapted and proper complex equifocal submanifold is the same type group as one associated with a principal orbit of a Hermann type action and evaluate from above the number of distinct principal curvatures of the submanifold.
