Investigation on Characteristics of Swine Manure of Optimum Volume for Escalator Reversing Composting Facility (돼지분뇨 특성에 따른 기계교반 퇴비화시설의 적정용적 산정 연구)

  • This study was carried out to investigate evaporation rate of moisture per surface area and degradation rate of organic matter in full scale escalator reversing composting facility were analyzed to develope a computer program for the computation of an optimum volume of composting facility according to handling methods of swine farm, moisture levels of manure, degradation rate of organics and evaporation rate of moisture during composting. The obtained results can be followed as bellow; The temperature in full scale escalator reversing composting facility during composting reached $70^{\circ}C$ in 4 days and maintained until 11 days. Reduction rate of moisture and density was average 1.20% and 29.7%, respectively. Annual degradation rate of organic matter was 3.53%, showing lowest rate in winter as 3.23%. These seasonal degradation rate could be a factor to be considered for proper management and installation of composting facility. When computed with the amount of feces, urine, slurry and manure plus wastewater produced, the optimum volumes of composting facility for slurry and manure plus wastewater including each 95% moisture was $229m^3$ and $277m^3$, respectively, showing 21% ($48m^3$) difference.

  • The rate for the aquation of $trans-[Cr(tmd)_2FX]^+(X=F^-,\;Cl^-)$ ion in aqueous acidic solution has been measured by spectrophotometric method at various temperatures and pressures. The rate constants are increased with increasing temperatures and pressures. The values of activation entropy are 5.2 eu for $trans-[Cr(tmd)_2F_2]^+$ and -16.62 eu for $trans-[Cr(tmd)_2FCl]^+$ ions. Activation volumes have all negative values and lie in the limited range $-3∼-2\;cm^3mol^{-1}$ for $trans-[Cr(tmd)_2F_2]^+$ and $-8∼-7\;cm^3mol^{-1} for $trans-[Cr(tmd)_2FCl]^+$ ion. From the above results, we may deduce that the mechanism for the aquation of $trans-[Cr(tmd)_2F_2]^+$ and $trans-[Cr(tmd)_2FCl]^+$ ions is interchange-associative mechanism and dissociative mechanism respectively.

  • Purpose : 3D conformal radiotherapy, the optimum dose delivered to the tumor and provided the risk of normal tissue unless marginal miss, was restricted by organ motion. For tumors in the thorax and abdomen, the planning target volume (PTV) is decided including the margin for movement of tumor volumes during treatment due to patients breathing. We designed the respiratory gating radiotherapy device (RGRD) for using during CT simulation, dose planning and beam delivery at identical breathing period conditions. Using RGRD, reducing the treatment margin for organ (thorax or abdomen) motion due to breathing and improve dose distribution for 3D conformal radiotherapy. Materials and Methods : The internal organ motion data for lung cancer patients were obtained by examining the diaphragm in the supine position to find the position dependency. We made a respiratory gating radiotherapy device (RGRD) that is composed of a strip band, drug sensor, micro switch, and a connected on-off switch in a LINAC control box. During same breathing period by RGRD, spiral CT scan, virtual simulation, and 3D dose planing for lung cancer patients were peformed, without an extended PTV margin for free breathing, and then the dose was delivered at the same positions. We calculated effective volumes and normal tissue complication probabilities (NTCP) using dose volume histograms for normal lung, and analyzed changes in doses associated with selected NTCP levels and tumor control probabilities (TCP) at these new dose levels. The effects of 3D conformal radiotherapy by RGRD were evaluated with DVH (Dose Volume Histogram), TCP, NTCP and dose statistics. Results : The average movement of a diaphragm was 1.5 cm in the supine position when patients breathed freely. Depending on the location of the tumor, the magnitude of the PTV margin needs to be extended from 1 cm to 3 cm, which can greatly increase normal tissue irradiation, and hence, results in increase of the normal tissue complications probabiliy. Simple and precise RGRD is very easy to setup on patients and is sensitive to length variation (+2 mm), it also delivers on-off information to patients and the LINAC machine. We evaluated the treatment plans of patients who had received conformal partial organ lung irradiation for the treatment of thorax malignancies. Using RGRD, the PTV margin by free breathing can be reduced about 2 cm for moving organs by breathing. TCP values are almost the same values $(4\~5\%\;increased)$ for lung cancer regardless of increasing the PTV margin to 2.0 cm but NTCP values are rapidly increased $(50\~70\%\;increased)$ for upon extending PTV margins by 2.0 cm. Conclusion : Internal organ motion due to breathing can be reduced effectively using our simple RGRD. This method can be used in clinical treatments to reduce organ motion induced margin, thereby reducing normal tissue irradiation. Using treatment planning software, the dose to normal tissues was analyzed by comparing dose statistics with and without RGRD. Potential benefits of radiotherapy derived from reduction or elimination of planning target volume (PTV) margins associated with patient breathing through the evaluation of the lung cancer patients treated with 3D conformal radiotherapy.

The Investigation Image-guided Radiation Therapy of Bladder Cancer Patients (방광암 환자의 영상유도 방사선치료에 관한 고찰)

  • Purpose: In hospital image-guided radiation therapy in patients with bladder cancer to enhance the reproducibility of the appropriate amount, depending on the patient's condition, and image-guided injection of saline system (On-Board Imager system, OBI, VARIAN, USA) three of the Cone-Beam CT dimensional matching (3D-3D matching) to be the treatment. In this study, the treatment of patients with bladder cancer at Cone-Beam CT image obtained through the analysis of the bones based matching and matching based on the bladder to learn about the differences, the bladder's volume change injected saline solution by looking at the bladder for the treatment of patients with a more appropriate image matching is to assess how the discussion. Materials and Methods: At our hospital from January 2009 to April 2010 admitted for radiation therapy patients, 7 patients with bladder cancer using a Folly catheter of residual urine in the bladder after removing the amount determined according to individual patient enough to inject saline CT-Sim was designed after the treatment plan. After that, using OBI before treatment to confirm position with Cone-Beam CT scan was physician in charge of matching was performed in all patients. CBCT images using a total of 45 bones, bladder, based on image matching and image matching based on the difference were analyzed. In addition, changes in bladder volume of Eclipse (version 8.0, VARIAN, USA) persuaded through. Results: Bones, one based image matching based on the bladder and re-matching the X axis is the difference between the average $3{\pm}2mm$, Y axis, $1.8{\pm}1.3mm$, Z-axis travel distance is $2.3{\pm}1.7mm$ and the overall $4.8{\pm}2.0mm$, respectively. The volume of the bladder compared to the baseline showed a difference of $4.03{\pm}3.97%$. Conclusion: Anatomical location and nature of the bladder due to internal movement of the bones, even after matching with the image of the bladder occurred in different locations. In addition, the volume of saline-filled bladder showed up the difference between the 4.03 percent, but matched in both images to be included in the planned volumes were able to confirm. Thus, after injection of saline into the bladder base by providing a more accurate image matching will be able to conduct therapy.

  • Using fractal dimensionality theory proposed by Riew and Sposito (1991), we attempted to analyze quantitatively the characteristics of porous distribution for built-in soils in the mini-lysimeter and artificial seed-bed media. The 2" stainless core soil samples were taken from lysimeter soils. Artificial seed-bed media were compacted in the acrylic core filled with raw materials consisted of cocopeat, zeolite and perlite. N (Constant number of partitioned group size smaller media volumes) and r (Self-similarity ratio) parameters consisting of fractal dimension D=log(N)/log(1/r) were obtained by Excel Programme using the Riew and Sposito's fractal model. The pore distribution of tested media was screened in pore size and its occurring frequency. The results reveal that the distribution range of pores is wider in the lysimeter soils than in the seed-bed media, while average size of pores in the media is smaller in lysimeter core soils than in seed-bed media.

Leaching of Trifluralin in the Commerce Clay Loam Soil (토양 중 Trifluralin의 용탈)

  • Trifluralin was selected to study the leaching potentials related to the pollution on Commerce silty clay loam soil near Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. The batch equilibrium of trifluralin resulted in the Koc value of 875. When the soil columns(5.4 cm i.d. ${\times}$ 26 cm length) were leached with three pore volumes of water, the distributions of trifluralin in soil and leachate were 99.993% and 0.007% of the total recoveries, respectively. When applied at the rate of 1,683 g/ha in the field, the amount of trifluralin within the $0{\sim}10$ cm soil depth was 96.9% of that within the $0{\sim}60cm$ soil depth 31 days after application. The concentrations of trifluralin detected in 1- and 2m- depth wells during 62 days after application ranged from 0.04 ng/mL to 0.08 ng/mL, which were lower than 2.0 ng/mL of the U.S. EPA advisory levels for drinking water. Trifluralin was strongly adsorbed on soil and hardly reached ground water. The leaching properties of trifluralin in the fields were predicted and concurred with those in the columns.

  • The Jangsan Quartzite is a basal unit of the Cambro-Odovician sequence, in Socheon-Myeon, Bonghwa-Gun, Gyeongsangbug-Do, South Korea, was petrologically and geochemically investigated. The quartzite consists mainly of quartz and muscovite, assosiated with tourmaline and graphite. The quartzite shows white and/or gray color and various green color in hand specimens. The white and gray colored rocks have very low vanadium contents, but a dark green colored rock contains 8960 ppm vanadium. The muscovites in the quartzite show colorless and green color, of which green ones range from pale blue green to pale green. The dark green colored muscovites have above 8 wt. % vanadium and pale green ones have 1-3 wt. % vanadium. Vanadium contents in moscovite increase with decreasing $Al^{v1}$ contents. It suggests that vanadium substitutes for octahedral aluminium in moscovite. In general, it tends to large volumes of muscovite (up to 14 modal %) in deep green colored rocks, and high vanadium contents in their muscovites. Most of the moscovite flakes occur along the quartz boundaries and some are enclosed by quartz grain. The moscovite grains intergrowth each other in the former. The mouscovite aggragates are divided into two types on the basis of their intergrowth(cut) times. Two cut times and one cut time are named T type and D type, respectively. The T type is mainly distributed at western part (near of the Chunyang granite), whereas the D type is distributed from middle to estern part(near the Janggunbong) of the formation. The boundary is consistent with metamorphic isograd between andalusite and sillimanite zone by Ahn et. al. (1993).

Effect of Airborne Organic Vapor Concentration Levels on the Adsorption Capacity of Charcoal in the Cartridges of Air Purifying Respirators (공기 중 유기용제 농도수준이 방독마스크 정화통의 활성탄 흡착용량에 미치는 영향)

  • The adsorption capacity of charcoal is a function of the airborne concentration of the target chemical. To evaluate the adsorption capacity of charcoal packed in the cartridges of air purifying respirators, breakthrough tests were conducted with carbon tetrachloride for three commercial cartridges (3M models #7251, #6000 and AX) at 25, 50, 100, 250 and 500 ppm. Adsorption capacities were calculated using a mass transfer balance equation derived from the curve fitting to the breakthrough curves obtained experimentally. Carbon micropore volumes were estimated by iteration to fit the Dubinin/Radushkevich (D/R) adsorption isotherm. They were 0.6566, 0.5727 and 0.3087 g/cc for #7251, #6000 and the AX cartridge, respectively. Above 100 ppm (at high challenge concentrations), #7251 and #6000 showed higher adsorption capacities. However, as the challenge concentration decreased, the adsorption capacities of #7251 and #6000 sharply dropped. On the other hand, the adsorption capacity of the AX cartridge showed little change with the decrease of the challenge concentration. Thus, the AX showed a higher adsorption capacity than #7251 and #6000 at the 5-50 ppm level. It is concluded that service-life tests of cartridges and adsorption capacity tests of charcoal should be conducted at challenge concentration levels reflecting actual working environmental conditions. Alternatively, it is recommended to use the D/R adsorption isotherm to extrapolate adsorption capacity at low concentration levels from the high concentration levels at which breakthrough tests are conducted, at a minimum of two different concentration levels.

Morphological Changes of Bones and Joints with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis

  • Arthritis is a common disease in aged people, and is clinically divided into rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and osteoarthritis (OA). Although common symptoms such as pain are present, the underlying pathological mechanisms are slightly different. Therefore, the objectives of the present study were to compare joint damage induced by RA and OA by analyzing the major morphological and molecular differences, and to propose a suitable therapeutic intervention based on the pathophysiological conditions of bones and joints. For the RA animal model, 8-week-old DBA1/J mice were immunized with bovine type II collagen emulsified in complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA). Normal C57BL/6 mice (over 2 years of age) were used for OA. The clinical arthritis score was calculated using a subjective scoring system, and paw thicknesses were measured using calipers. The serum TNF ${\alpha}$ level was analyzed using an ELISA kit. Micro-CT was used to identify pathological characteristics and morphological changes. In collagen-induced RA mice, there were increased ankle joint volumes and clinical scores (p<0.01). The concentration of TNF ${\alpha}$ was significantly increased from 3 to 7 weeks after immunization. Micro-CT images showed trabecular bone destruction, pannus formation, and subchondral region destruction in RA mice. OA among aged mice showed narrowed joint spaces and breakdown of articular cartilage. This study suggests that a careful therapeutic intervention between RA and OA is required, and it should be based on morphological alteration of bone and joint.

A Study on the Queueing Simulation of Lock Gates according to the Functional Rearrangement in Incheon Port (인천항 기능 재배치에 따른 갑문의 대기 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • Due to the construction of Incheon Grand Bridge, there is driven a necessity for rearranging the function of Inner Port with the development of Outer South Port. In this paper, I'd like to simulate the port operation levels of Lock Gate in Inner Port with estimating the traffic volumes of 2011 and 2015, which will reveal the Demurrage Cost and the Accumulation Cost of Freight in Inner Port. Finally I will evaluate the economic movement effects of the container ship's calling from Inner port to South Port/Outer South Port from 2011 to 2015. The results are as followings ; (1) The average utilization of Lock Gates are reduced by $7\sim8$ percentage point. (2) The mean queueing value are saved by 25 percentage point. (3) The Demurrage Cost and the Accumulation Cost of Freight except Lock Gate charges and the Benefit of Routeing Reduction are saved about 800 million Won annually.
