In this study, Platinum(Pt) nanoparticles were synthesized by using polyol process which is one of the liquid phase reduction methods. Dihydrogen hexachloroplatinate (IV) hexahydrate $(H_2PtCl_6{\cdot}6H_2O)$, as a precursor, was dissolved in ethylene glycol and silver nitrate ($AgNO_3$) was added as metal salt for shape control of Pt particle. Also, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), as capping agent, was added to reduce the size of particle and to separate the particles. The size of Pt nanoparticles was evaluated particle size analyzer (PSA). The size and morphology of Pt nanoparticles were observed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution TEM (HRTEM). Synthesized Pt nanoparticles were studied with varying time and temperature of polyol process. Pt nanoparticles have been successfully synthesized with controlled sizes in the range 5-10 and 20-40 nm with cube and multiple-cube shapes.
A series of colorless polyimide (PI) nanocomposite films were synthesized from 2,2'-bis(3,4-dicarboxyphenyl)hexafluoropropane dianhydride (6FDA) and 2,2'-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,4'-diaminobiphenyl (TFDB) with various organoclay contents by solution intercalation polymerization to poly(amic acid)s, followed by thermal imidization. The variation with the organoclay content of the thermomechanical properties, morphology, and optical transparency of the hybrids was examined at organoclay loadings ranging from 0 to 1.0 wt%. The hybrid films showed high optical transparency and almost no color, with cut-off wavelengths ranging from 352 and 356 nm and very low $b^*$ values of 1.19-1.77. The hybrid PI films showed good thermal properties with a glass transition temperature of $280-287^{\circ}C$. Most films did not show any significant thermal decomposition below $490^{\circ}C$. The addition of only a small amount of organoclay was sufficient to improve the tensile properties of the PI films with maximum enhancement being observed at 0.25 wt% organoclay. Moreover, these PI hybrids also had low coefficients of thermal expansion (CTE).

In this study, 4 different types of GBR membrane were undergone for bio-degradability test; Silk mat from silkworm cocoon (TDI), silk mat from flatwise-spun (FS), collagen membrane (OssGuide), and dPTFE membrane (Cytoplast). Each material was segmented in 10.00 mm length and 0.3 mm thickness. The samples were put into the normal saline at $37^{\circ}C$ for 2 weeks. After that, yield strength and tensile strain were measured and compared them with those of before treatment. The morphology of the membranes was observed by SEM. Tensile strain of FS was significantly increased at 2 weeks' normal saline treatment (P=0.018). When compared to OssGuide, TDI and FS showed significantly higher tensile strain at 2 weeks' normal saline treatment (P<0.05). In the SEM images, there were no significant changes in Cytoplast, TDI, and FS after 2 weeks' treatment. However, OssGuide showed damaged surface after 2 weeks' treatment. In conclusion, both TDI and FS did not have any evidence of biodegradability at 2 weeks' observation in normal saline treatment. However, OssGuide showed more than 20 % decrease in yield strength and tensile strain.
The corrosion damage of materials in marine environment mainly occurs by Cl- ions due to the breakdown of passive films. Additionally, various characteristics in seawater such as salinity, temperature, immersion time, flow rate, and biological activity also affect corrosion characteristics. In this study, the corrosion characteristics of stainless steels (STS 304 and STS 316L) and anodized aluminum alloys (AA 3003 and AA 6063) were evaluated with seawater temperature parameters. A potentiodynamic polarization experiment was conducted in a potential range of -0.25 V to 2.0 V at open circuit potential (OCP). Corrosion current density and corrosion potential were obtained through the Tafel extrapolation method to analyze changes in corrosion rate due to temperature. Corrosion behavior was evaluated by measuring weight loss before/after the experiment and also observing surface morphology through a scanning electronic microscope (SEM) and 3D microscopy. Weight loss, maximum damage depth and pitting damage increased as seawater temperature increased, and furthermore, the tendency of higher corrosion current density with an increase of temperature attributed to an increase in corrosion rate. There was lower pitting damage and lower corrosion current density for anodized aluminum alloys than for stainless steels as the temperature increased.

This study investigated the effect of exposure to flutriafol based on residues in pigs. Pigs were exposed to different concentrations (0.313, 0.625, 3.125, 6.25, and 12.5 mg/kg bw/d, n=20) for 4 wk in different treatment groups. Serum biochemical analysis, residue levels, and histological analysis were conducted using the VetTest chemistry analyzer, liquid chromatography mass spectrometry, and Masson's trichrome staining, respectively. The body weight (initial and final) was not significantly different between groups. Parameters such as creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, alanine aminotransferase, and lipase levels were significantly different as compared to the control group. Flutriafol increased the residue limits in individual tissue of the pigs in a dose dependent manner. Flutriafol exposures indicated the presence of fibrosis, as confirmed from Masson's trichrome staining. These results suggest that flutriafol affects the morphology and serum levels in pigs. The dietary flutriafol levels can provide a basis for maximum residue limits and food safety for pork and related products.
Hafnium nitride (HfN) thin films were fabricated by mid-frequency magnetron sputtering (mfMS) and direct current magnetron sputtering (dcMS) and their mechanical and structural properties were compared. In particular, changes in the HfN film properties were observed by changing the pulse frequency of mfMS between 5 kHz, 15 kHz, and 30 kHz. The crystalline structure, microstructure, 3D morphology, and mechanical properties of the HfN films were compared by x-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and nanoindentation tester, respectively. HfN film deposited by mfMS showed a smoother and denser microstructure as the frequency increased, whereas the film deposited by dcMS showed a rough and sloppy microstructure. A single δ-HfN phase was observed in the HfN film made by mfMS with a pulse frequency of 30 kHz, but mixed δ-HfN and HfN0·4 phases were observed in the HfN film made by dcMS. The mechanical properties of HfN film made by mfMS were improved compared to film made by dcMS.
Oxygen plasma has been treated on the surface of indium-tin-oxide (ITO) to improve the efficiency of the organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) device. The plasma treatment was expected to inject the holes effectively due to the control of an ITO work-function and the reduction of surface roughness. To optimize the treatment condition, a surface resistance and morphology of the ITO surface were investigated. The effect on the electrical properties of the OLEDs was evaluated as a function of oxygen plasma powers (0, 200, 250, 300, and 450 W). The electrical properties of the devices were measured in a device structure of ITO/TPD/Alq3/BCP/LiF/Al. It was found the plasma treatment of the ITO surface affects on the efficiency of the device. The efficiency of the device was optimized at the plasma power of 250 W and decreased at higher power than 250 W. The maximum values of luminance, luminous power efficiency, and external quantum efficiency of the plasma treated devices increase by 1.4 times, 1.4 times, and 1.2 times, respectively, compared to those of the non-treated ones.

This study explores the profound impact of varying oxygen content on microstructural and mechanical properties in specimens HO and LO. The higher oxygen concentration in specimen HO is found to significantly influence alpha lath sizes, resulting in a size of 0.5-1 ㎛, contrasting with the 1-1.5 ㎛ size observed in specimen LO. Pore fraction, governed by oxygen concentration, is high in specimen HO, registering a value of 0.11%, whereas specimen LO exhibits a lower pore fraction (0.02%). Varied pore types in each specimen further underscore the role of oxygen concentration in shaping microstructural morphology. Despite these microstructural variations, the average hardness remains consistent at ~370 HV. This study emphasizes the pivotal role of oxygen content in influencing microstructural features, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the intricate interplay between elemental composition and material properties.

To investigate the effect of dietary supplementation with a fermented mixture of bean dregs and wheat bran (FBW) on sow performance. FBW was given to sows during late gestation and lactation; in total, 24 sows were randomly assigned to 4 groups (control diet; 3% FBW diet; 6% FBW diet; 9% FBW diet, n = 6). The weight ratio of bean dregs (wet) to wheat bran was 4:6. Sows were fed different diets from 85 d of gestation until weaning. The results showed that supplementation with FBW increased average daily feed intake (ADFI) during lactation (p < 0.05). FBW supplementation also increased litter weight and milk yield (p < 0.05). The contents of Escherichia coli in the feces of the treatment groups were significantly reduced by FBW supplementation (p < 0.01). FBW supplementation significantly improved the fecal morphology (p < 0.05), alleviating sows' constipation. In conclusion, FBW could increase the ADFI, improve lactation and piglet litter weight in sows and reduce the pathogenic bacterial content in sow feces and constipation.
Properties of coatings produced by warm spray were investigated in order to utilize this technique as a repair method for Al tire molds. $Al-(0-10%)Al_2O_3$ composite powder was sprayed on Al substrate by warm spraying, and the microstructure and mechanical properties of the composite coating layer were investigated. For comparative study, the properties of the coating produced by plasma spray, which is a relatively high-temperature spraying process, were also investigated. The composite coating layers produced by the two spray techniques exhibited significantly different morphology, perhaps due to their different process temperatures and velocities of particles. Whereas the $Al_2O_3$ particles in the warm sprayed coating layer maintained their initial shape before the spray, flattened and irregular shape $Al_2O_3$ particles were distributed in the plasma sprayed coating layer. The coating layer produced by warm spray showed significantly higher adhesive strength compared to that produced by plasma spray. Hardness was also higher in the warm sprayed coating layer compared to the plasma sprayed one. Moreover, with increasing the fraction of $Al_2O_3$, hardness gradually increased in both spray coating processes. In conclusion, an $Al-Al_2O_3$ composite coating layer with good mechanical properties was successfully produced by warm spray.
