  • The crystallographic and high frequency characteristics of $Fe_{73.9}Cu_{1.0}Nb_{3.5}Si_{14.0}B_{7.6}$ soft magnetic alloys were investigated under the magnetic field annealing. As-cast ribbon with which already imbedded nanocrystalline Fe-Si phase on the surface have a preferred orientation with (400) plane to surface and also with the [011] direction parallel to the ribbon length. The extra nanocrystalline Fe-Si phase appeared throughout at 45$0^{\circ}C$ in samples with or without the longitudinal magnetic field. However the formation of nanocrystalline phase does not appear on the suface layer until 50$0^{\circ}C$ annealing temperature under the transverse field. The cryststallization fraction of annealed samples with longitudinal magnetic field is higher than that of samples without magnetic field. When the transverse magnetic field is applied, the crystallization fraction does not increases but decreases until 50$0^{\circ}C$. However the crystallization of internal regions can be confirmed by X-ray diffraction measurement via tilting the sample. It was found that for all samples, the saturation induction were all same with 1.3 T. The coercive field of as-cast sample was 1.06 A/cm, but in annealed samples it decrease from 0.56 to 0.1 A/cm with increasing annealing temperature from 400 and 55$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The squareness of annealed samples under transverse magnetic field has a small value than that of both without field and with longitudinal field annealing.

  • This study was carried out for treatment and reuse of inorganic sludge from Fenton process at B dyeing wastewater treatment plant. The parameters for pilot-scale treatment system were derived from the results of this study. It was found that $COD_{cl}$ of the treated effluent became lower than 100 mg/l approximately on the optimal reaction condition. 2nd sludge which was generated after redissolving sludge was analyzed, and it showed that reduction ratio of ash in 2nd sludge and total dry sludge weight in comparison with current sludge were 85% and 65%. Also Fe salt in sludge was redissolved about 90~95% of initial Fe by weight. It was estimated almost ₩350,000,000 for sludge reuse process. It was estimated saving of about ₩1,300,000 per day (₩420,000,000 per year) in operating cost based on 30,000 $m^3$/d treatment, which these were about ₩430,000 per day in chemical, ₩1,100,000 per day in sludge transportation and ₩200,000 per day in equipment maintenance. Payback period with interest charge for investment cost was estimated about 10.5 months. Also, net present value (NPV) was ₩792,000,000 and internal rat of return (IRR) was about 110%.

  • Abstract Co-and/or AI-added Nd-Fe-B-based magnetic alloys were fabricated by using vacuum induction melting frunace, and melt-spun ribbons were made of the magnetic alloys with single roll rapid quenching method. The variation of magnetic properties of the melt-spun ribbons as a function of Cuwheel velocity (Vs) were investigated. Bonded magnets were made of the optimally quenched ribbon fragments, and the magnetic properties of the melt-spun ribbons and the bonded magnets were studied, relating to the microstructure and crystalline structure. Cu-wheel surface velocity had a strong effect on the magnetic properties of the melt-spun ribbons, and the maximum properties were obtained around Vs =20m/sec. The optimally quenched ribbon had a cellura-type microstructure, in which fine N$d_2$F$e_14$B grains were surrounded by thin Nd-rich phase. In case of a 2.1at% AI-added melt-spun ribbon, the magnetic properties were as follows: iHc, Br, and (BH)max were 15.5KOe, 7.8KG and 8.5MGOe respectively. And resin bonded magnets were fabricated by mixing optimally quenched ribbon fragments with 2.5wt % polyamide resin, compacting and binding at room temperature. The iHc, Br and (BH)max of bonded magnet were lO.2KOe, 4.4KG and 3.3MGOe respectively. And hot-pressed magnets were made by pressing the overquenched ribbons at high temperature. The magnetic properties of hot-pressed magnets were better than those of bonded magnets, and when the holding time was 8 minutes, the iHc, Br, and (BH)max of the hot-pressed magnet were 1O.8KOe, 7.3KG and 8.0MGOe respectively. Domain structure was mainly maze pattern, which means that the easy magnetization axis could be aligned, and the domain width of the hot-pressed magnets was smaller than that of bonded magnets.

  • Effect of processing condition on the hot extrusion of Al-Zn-Mg-Sc alloy was investigated. For this purpose, hot compression test and FE-simulation were conducted via Thermecmaster-Z and DEFORM-3D, respectively. The microstructure evolution during hot extrusion and post heat-treatment was investigated and deformation mechanisms were analyzed by constructing processing map. FE-simulation results show that the temperature difference between container and billet has considerable influence on the final shape of extruded T-shape bar. The relation between applied load and processing time was predicted by the FE-analysis as well as punch speed vs. stroke chart.

  • In the present study, external restraints imposed normal to the plate during the cooling stage were determined to be effective for reduction of the angular distortion of butt-welded or fillet-welded plate. A welding analysis model under external force during the cooling stage was idealized as a prismatic member subjected to pure bending. The external restraint was represented by vertical force on both sides of the work piece and bending stress forms in the transverse direction. The additional bending stress distribution across the plate thickness was reflected in the improved inherent strain model, and a set of inherent strain charts with different levels of bending stress were newly calculated. From an elastic linear FE analysis using the inherent strain values taken from the chart and comparing them with those from a 3D thermal elasto-plastic FE analysis, welding deformation can be calculated.

  • The aim of this paper is to investigate how the soil-structure interaction affects sloshing response of the elevated tanks. For this purpose, the elevated tanks with two different types of supporting systems which are built on six different soil profiles are analyzed for both embedded and surface foundation cases. Thus, considering these six different profiles described in well-known earthquake codes as supporting medium, a series of transient analysis have been performed to assess the effect of both fluid sloshing and soil-structure interaction (SSI). Fluid-Elevated Tank-Soil/Foundation systems are modeled with the finite element (FE) technique. In these models fluid-structure interaction is taken into account by implementing Lagrangian fluid FE approximation into the general purpose structural analysis computer code ANSYS. A 3-D FE model with viscous boundary is used in the analyses of elevated tanks-soil/foundation interaction. Formed models are analyzed for embedment and no embedment cases. Finally results from analyses showed that the soil-structure interaction and the structural properties of supporting system for the elevated tanks affected the sloshing response of the fluid inside the vessel.

  • One problem in giant magnetoresistance(GMR) spin valves and magnetic tunneling junctions(MTJ) exchange biased by Mn-based antiferromagnets is the Mn diffusion into the ferromagnetic layer and other layers upon annealing.$^{1-3}$ It seems that Mn diffusion that may occur during annealing has a key role in the exchange biasing. We have fabricated multilayers inserting the nanolayer(NL) between antiferromagnet and ferromagent using ion-beam deposition system to study the diffusion effect for the exchange bias. (omitted)

  • A magnetic film was deposited on a slide glass substrate from aqueous solutions of $FeCl_2$ and $NaNO_2$ at 363 K. XRD analysis showed that the film was polycrystalline magnetite $(Fe_{3(1-{\sigma})}O_4)$ without impurity phase. The lattice constant was 0.8390 nm. Mossbauer spectrum of the film could be deconvoluted by the following parameters: isomer shifts for tetrahedral $(T_d)$ and octahedral $(O_h)$ sites are 0.28 and 0.68 mm/s, respectively, and corresponding magnetic hyperfine fields are 490 and 458 kOe, respectively. The estimated chemical formula of the film by the peak intensity of Mossbauer spectrum was $Fe_{2.95}O_4$. Low temperature transition of the magnetite (Verwey transition) was not detected in resistivity measurement of the film. Properties of the film were discussed with those of pressed pellet and single crystal of synthetic magnetites. On the surface of the film, magnetite particles of about 0.2 μm in diameter were identified by noncontact atomic force microscopy (NAFM) and magnetic force microscopy (MFM).

  • To investigate the mechanical behavior of large stud shear connector embedded in hybrid fiber-reinforced concrete (HFRC), a refined 3D nonlinear finite element (FE) model incorporating the constitutive model of HFRC was developed using ANSYS. Firstly, the test results conducted by the authors (He et al. 2017) were used to validate FE model of push out tests. Secondly, a total of 27 specimens were analyzed with various parameters including fiber volume fractions of HFRC, diameter of studs and HFRC strength. Finally, an empirical equation considering the contribution of steel fiber (SF) and polypropylene fiber (PF) was recommended to estimate the ultimate capacity of large stud shear connector embedded in HFRC.
