Development of BIM-based 3D Modeling Instruction Materials and its Application Analysis for Professional Drafting Subject of Specialized Vocational High School (특성화고 전문제도 과목을 위한 BIM 기반 3D 주택설계 수업자료 개발 및 적용)

  • As the BIM designing technology has been applied recently in the construction field, architectural design education in the field of work and university has been changing to 3D modeling. Nevertheless, architectural design & drafting education in the construction specialized vocational high school is not responding appropriately to change. Despite the fact that students need to have 3D modeling design ability, there is a very lack of 3D housing design instructional material that can satisfy the change. The purpose of this study is to develop BIM-based 3D modeling instruction material and apply to analyze effect on interest and task performance ability on Housing Design. The 3D modeling instruction material used in this study was developed through four stages of preparation, development, implementation and evaluation according to the PDIE model procedure. Also, the experimental design model for hypothesis testing was used nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. Based on the experimental design model, BIM-based 3D modeling instruction material was performed in the experimental group and 2D CAD-based standard instruction material was taught in the control group. Experimental treatment was conducted on the students of construction specialized vocatinonal high school, and applied to the subject of Professional Drafting in the 12 hours. Before and after the experimental treatment, the interest and task performance ability on Housing Design were tested. Based on the test results, we analyzed the effects of the 3D modeling instruction material through the independent samples t-test. The results of the study are as follows. First, BIM-based 3D modeling instruction material was developed of 'Housing Design & Drafting' unit on the subject of Professional Drafting in construction specialized vocational high school. Second, the application of 3D modeling instruction material has shown to be effective in improving students' interest. Third, the application of 3D modeling instruction material has shown to be effective in improving students' task performance ability on Housing Design.

The Development of Automated System for 3D Design and Stability Evaluation of Caisson (케이슨의 3D 설계 및 안정 검토 자동화 시스템 개발)

  • In this research, the automated system for 3D modeling and stability evaluation of caisson was developed. It is possible to build a BIM model while examining the stability of the structures to improve the practical use of BIM technology. This study analyzed industry cases and guidelines for caisson stability evaluation and BIM-based modeling. As a result, the data for calculating the stability evaluation of caisson as well as the modeling parameters were derived. In particular, the automated system for 3D modeling, which reflects more than 30 parameters, allows for BIM models for various types of the caisson, such as open-cell caisson, open-cell caisson with uneven, slit caisson, slit caisson with uneven, and curved caisson. The study tested the proposed system using case studies and found that it helps not only to automate the BIM model with various caisson types as parameters but also to make partial shape changes accessible. The study also confirmed that the stability evaluation can be quickly carried out with shapes changed. Finally, the study results suggest that the proposed method should complete the task seven times as fast as the conventional work method.

A Pilot Site Planning and Design based on 3D Spatial Information (단지설계업무에서 3차원 공간자료의 활용)

  • The purpose of this research was to propose housing estate planning that applies 3D spatial information to DAS housing estate planning program and to enhance applicability of 3D spatial analysis. In addition, this research evaluated the applicability of 3D spatial information to site planning of Korea Land and Housing Corporation and developed models for the purpose of applying the spatial information efficiently. Moreover, we tested applicability of LiDAR that can allow 3D spatial information to be more efficient and accurate. The results from cross section analysis implies that LiDAR has higher usability than existing geographic information. Additionally, this study shaded light on the suggested system development model that can simulate location or height of an apartment house by spatially analyzing difference between before-and-after site development.

  • Recently, the adoption of BIM technology in domestic civil engineering projects has continually increased both in its numbers and scope. However, the BIM model was developed and used after the 2D design was developed instead of creating the BIM model from the conceptual design phase. BIM must be used throughout every phase of design and construction to use BIM for its original purpose. However, if BIM application is applied in heavy civil projects without a step-by-step guideline, it can confuse the market and face industry resistance to using BIM. Therefore, BIM is currently being used step by step in the civil engineering field by using BIM as a conversion design. However, the BIM conversion design method, currently being performed in the Preliminary design stage, has many difficulties due to low work efficiency. This paper analyzes the existing process of converting a 2D design into a 3D BIM model while addressing the issues related to its low work efficiency. To this end, a novel approach to 2D to BIM conversion for the design development stage is proposed.

Improvements of the Public Pedestrian Passage in the Apartment Complex from Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design Aspect (범죄예방 환경설계 관점에서 공동주택 단지 내 공공보행통로의 개선방안 연구)

  • A public pedestrian passage induces traffic into the apartment complex, and therefore, it requires the application of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design(CPTED). This paper aims to analyze the conditions and to suggest the improvements of public pedestrian passages in apartment complexes, applying a 3-D approach from CPTED aspect. The first aspect is "Designation": 1)The linkage between the public pedestrian passages is weak, and their designated purpose becomes unclear. 2)When the designated purpose is not considered for each complex, the closure rate is high. 3)The closure rate of the "Through type" is high. It suggests that the pedestrian network should be built and vitalized at the local urban level. The second aspect is "Definition." The public pedestrian passage lacks a social, cultural, and legal definition and only has a passive physical definition. It suggests that a legal definition and specialized guildline be prepared. The third aspect is "Design": 1)Insufficient territoriality exists between the public pedestrian passage and the inside of the complex. Territoriality should be reinforced between the public pedestrian passage and the rest of the internal territory. 2)The landscaping adjacent to the public pedestrian passage lacks deliberation. Since this is where safety and privacy collide, detailed design and maintenance of the landscaping is required. 3)It lacks systematical crime prevention facilities and should compensate accordingly.

A Study on the Evaluation Management of Public Housing Architectural Competition using BIM (공공 공동주택의 BIM적용 설계 경기 평가관리에 한 연구 - BIM적용 가능 평가항목 선정을 중심으로 -)

  • In Korea, recently, efforts have been made to introduce BIM(Building Information Modeling) to housing complex projects. However, there have been several problems including excessive competition for building design and outcome-oriented evaluation due to a lack of clear evaluation criteria and poorly organized management process. Under this circumstance, the study surveyed opinions of project managers and conducted a pilot test to improve evaluation criteria of BIM-based design for housing complexes. The objective is to assess the level of BIM technology and its applicability, and to propose a list of reasonable evaluation criteria for better project management. First, the study examined the current condition of evaluation on the BIM-based housing complexes, and identified 15 preliminary items that might be suitable for application of BIM. Second, the study conducted a pilot test for the 15 items to determine their suitability for the level of BIM technology, clarity of the calculation process, and the extent of fulfilling information quality, and short-listed eight items for application of BIM. In particular, in the design concept stage, mostly 3D visual images and area-related items are suitable for BIM-based evaluation. Accordingly, formerly used items such as project cost, energy and environmental analysis, building structure, and facilities were deemed more relevant to the subsequent stages of basic design and its implementation.

The adapted research method of selected case five apartment building in D new town and carried out questionnaire survey to residents and user for draw items of feasibility evaluation. Drew items of feasibility evaluation classify as Plan section, Design section, and Operation section and evaluate the weight of each section utilizing analytical hierarchy process (AHP). Depending on the purpose and methods. The results of this study are as follows: Such as Plan section, Composition of Program Facility, User Charge Survey, Arrangement of Program Room were analyzed highest. Such as Design section, Arrangement of Program Room, Circulation planning, Educational Equipment were analyzed highest. And such as Operation section, Operation costs, Operation Plan, Review of Program Facility were analyzed highest.

Analysis on the Seismic Load Reduction Effect of a Ground by Considering Pile Strength (말뚝 강성을 고려한 지반의 지진하중 저감 효과에 관한 해석 연구)

  • In this study, a numerical analysis to evaluate the reduction of seismic load due to pile group was performed and compared the peak ground acceleration(PGA) measured at free-field and foundation. The special attention was given to the amplification of seismic acceleration on the foundation due to the pile effects. The analysis considering pile effects was carried out for 4, 8 and 12 piles with same condition by PLAXIS 2D Dynamics. Based on the analysis results, it is found that the overall reduction in seismic load due to foundation and reduction rates are similar irrespective of pile numbers. This study gives a possibility for effective design of piled foundation by reducing seismic load about 20~25%.

  • Site coefficient and amplification factor of current domestic Seismic Design Code (KBC-2009) have no consideration for the domestic ground condition in which the base rock is normally placed within 30m form the surface. Accordingly, in this study dynamic centrifugal test and analysis for pile foundation into sand and upper structure were achieved. and the response spectrums of free surface and basement were compared with each other. Within the period 1 sec., the measured spectral acceleration of free surface and basement was bigger than the design spectral acceleration of SC and SD site. However the measured spectral acceleration of free surface and basement for the period over 1.5 sec. was smaller than the design spectral acceleration of SC site. There was no severe difference of spectral acceleration according to the upper structure, embedded depth of foundation and free surface conditions. Consequently, normal domestic apartment housing for the period range over 1.5sec. could be design more economically applying these test result.

  • The BIM (Building Information Modeling) model created in the design stage can be used for prior review and schedule management for the construction stage. However, in the case of actual BIM application cases, additional work is required, such as creating a new model suitable for the construction stage, rather than using the 3D model in the design stage, due to the difference in the purpose of use between the design stage and the construction stage. Therefore, in this study, a division function of BIM model is proposed as a method of recycling it in the construction stage without a remodeling process. In addition, the application to the actual BIM model and the 4D CAD system linkage of the divided object and the comparison with the existing division method are used to verify the usability.
