  • This paper presents a 2-D analytical method to calculate the back EMF of the axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator (AFPMSG) with coreless stator and dual rotor having magnets mounted on both sides of rotor yoke. Furthermore, in order to reduce the no load voltage total harmonics distortion (VTHD), the initial model of the coreless AFPMSG is optimized by using a developed analytical method. Optimization using the 2-D analytical method reduces the optimization time to less than a minute. The back EMF obtained by using the 2-D analytical method is verified by a time stepped 3-D finite element analysis (FEA) for both the initial and optimized model. Finally, the VTHD, output torque and torque ripples of both the initial and optimized models are compared with 3D-FEA. The result shows that the optimized model reduces the VTHD and torque ripples as compared to the initial model. Furthermore, the result also shows that output torque increases as the result of the optimization.

  • This paper deals with analytical solution concerning the image method using the magnetic charge instead of 3D FEA(finite element analysis) in the slotless single air-gap motor. The theory of analytical method and the design procedures are introduced. The reliability and validity of proposed analytical solution are verified through the comparison with the results of commercial 3D FE software. In addition, calculation time between proposed analytical solution and 3D FEA is compared. Finally, characteristics, such as Back-EMF and phase resistance, between calculated and experimental results are compared. From the verification with 3D FEA and experimental results, it is proved that presented analytical method provided very effective and precise results.

  • A comparison is made of the temperature distribution and heat loss from a trapezoidal profile fin using two different 3-dimensional methods. These two methods are analytical and finite difference methods. In the finite difference method 78 nodes are used for a fourth of the fin. A trapezoidal profile fin being the height of the fin tip is half of that of the fin base is chosen arbitrarily as the model. One of the results shows that the relative error in the total convection heat loss obtained by using 78 nodes in the finite difference method as compared to the heat conduction through the fin root obtained by analytic method seems to be good (i.e., -3.5%

  • Settlement evaluation is important for shallow tunnels in big cities to estimate the settlement that occurs due to the excavation of twin tunnels. The majority of earlier research on analytical solutions, on the other hand, concentrated on calculating the settlement for a single tunnel. This research introduces a procedure to evaluate the settlement induced by the excavation of twin tunnels (two parallel tunnels). In this study, a series of numerical analysis were performed to validate the analytical solution results. Two geological conditions were considered to derive the settlement depending on each case. The analytical and numerical methods were compared, which involved considering many sections and conducting a parametric study; the results have good agreement. Moreover, a comparison of the 3D flat model and 2D (FEM) with the analytical solution shows that in the fill soil, the maximum settlement values were obtained by the analytical solution. In contrast, the values obtained by the analytical solution in the rock is more conservative than those in the fill. Finally, this method was shown to be appropriate for twin tunnels dug side by side by utilizing finite element analysis 3D and 2D (PLAXIS 3D and PLAXIS 2D) to verify the analytical equations. Eventually, it will be possible to use this approach to predict settlement troughs over twin tunnels.

  • In general, cracks significantly deteriorate the in-situ performance of concrete members and structures, especially in urban metro tunnels that have been embedded in saturated soft soils. The microcapsule self-healing method is a newly developed healing method for repairing cracked concrete. To investigate the optimal microcapsule parameters that will have the best healing effect in concrete, a 3D analytical probability healing model is proposed; it is based on the microcapsule self-healing method's healing mechanism, and its purpose is to predict the healing efficiency and healing probability of given cracks. The proposed model comprehensively considers the radius and the volume fraction of microcapsules, the expected healing efficiency, the parameters of cracks, the broken ratio and the healing probability. Furthermore, a simplified probability healing model is proposed to facilitate the calculation. Then, a Monte Carlo test is conducted to verify the proposed 3D analytical probability healing model. Finally, the influences of microcapsules' parameters on the healing efficiency and the healing probability of the microcapsule self-healing method are examined in light of the proposed probability model.

  • A Superconducting Rotary Machine (SRM) is characterized by an air-cored machine with its rotor iron and stator iron teeth removed. For this reason, the SRM is featured by 3D magnetic flux distribution, which decreases in the direction of axis, Therefore, 3D magnetic field analysis method is required to know about characteristic of magnetic field distribution of SRM, In this paper, 3D flux distribution of SRM is calculation by using analytical method. The magnetic field distribution due to the field coils use of the Biot-Savart equation. The magnetic core is represented by magnetic surface polarities. • Comparison of the heat conduction into a trapezoidal fin and the heat loss from the fin by convection is made in this study Also, the ratio of heat loss from each surface to the total heat loss and the temperature distribution are analyzed using a 3-D analytical method. A trapezoidal fin whose tip height is half the root height is chosen as the model. The results show that the heat transfer rates from the tip and from both sides are comparable with each other as the non-dimensional width and length vary while the heat transfer rate from the bottom and top is dominant.

  • The 3D numerical analysis is carried out to investigate the settlement behavior of flexible mat foundations subjected to vertical loads. Special attention is given to the improved analytical method (YS-MAT) that reflects the mat flexibility and soil spring coupling effect. The soil model captures the stiffness of the soil springs as well as the shear interaction between the soil springs. The proposed method has been validated by comparing the results with other numerical approaches and field measurements on mat foundation. Through comparative studies, the proposed analytical method was in relatively good agreement with them and capable of predicting the behavior of the mat foundations.

  • This study estimates tunnel face pressure through existing 8 analytical equations and 3D numerical analysis, and compares and examines it. In general, the estimating tunnel face pressure of domestic shield TBM has been examined by a method according to analytical equation and empirical method, but numerical analysis is combined in a section passing complicated stratigraphic condition and special soil condition. Therefore, the researcher is to find a reliable method to examine of tunnel face pressure by confirming a correlation between tunnel face pressure estimated by equation and tunnel face pressure estimated by numerical analysis program. When tunnel face pressure is estimated, both analytical equation and numerical analysis were identically examined in soil conditions such as sandy soil and cohesive soil. In addition, existing analytical equation is used as equation, and 3D analysis copying construction process and shield tunnel as numerical analysis.
