  • In order to install the floating transport type wind-turbine foundation, water pumping is used to sink the foundation. During this process, its mass and center of gravity, and buoyancy center become continuously changed so that the dynamic stability of the floating foundation become unstable. Dynamic stability analysis of the floating foundation is a complex problem since it should take into account not only the environmental wave, wind, and current loads but also its weight change effect simultaneously considering six-degree-of-freedom motion. In this study, advanced numerical method based on the coupled computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and multi-body dynamics (MBD) approach has been applied to the dynamic stability analysis of the floating foundation. The sloshing effect of foundation internal water is also considered and the floating dynamic characteristics are numerically investigated in detail.

  • The research on two-wheeled inverted pendulum (TWIP) mobile robots has been ongoing in a number of robotic laboratories around the world. In this paper, we consider a robust controller design for the TWIP mobile robot driving on uniform slopes. We use a 2 degree-of-freedom (DOF) model which is obtained by restricting the spinning motion in a 3 DOF motion dynamic equation. In order to design the robust controller guaranteeing stability of the TWIP mobile robot driving on inclined surface, we propose a sliding mode control based on the theory of variable structure systems and design a sliding surface using the theory of the linear quadratic regulation (LQR). For simulation, the dynamic model of the TWIP mobile robot is constructed using Mathworks' Simulink and the sliding mode control is also implemented using Simulink. From simulation results, we show that the proposed controller effectively controls the TWIP mobile robot driving on slopes.

  • A submerged body moving near the free surface needs to maintain its attitude and position to accomplish missions. It is necessary to validate the performance of a designed controller before a sea trial. The hydrodynamic coefficients of maneuvering are generally obtained by experiments or computational fluid dynamics, but these coefficients have uncertainty. Environmental loads such as the wave exciting force and suction force act on the submerged body when it moves near the free surface. Thus, a controller for the submerged body should be robust to parameter uncertainty and environmental loads. In this paper, the six-degree-of-freedom equations of motions for the submerged body are constructed. The suction force is calculated using the double Rankine body method. An adaptive control method based on an artificial neural network and proportional-integral-derivative control are used for the depth controller. Simulations are performed under various depth and speed conditions, and the results show the effectiveness of the designed controller.

  • With the rapid development of the VR industry, many VR contents are produced and circulated, and the need for copyright protection is increasing. In this paper, we propose a method of embedding and extracting watermarks in consideration of VR production process. In embedding, SIFT is performed by selecting the region where distortion is minimized in VR production, and transformed into frequency domain using DWT and embedded into the QIM method. In extracting process, in order to correct the distortion in the projection process, the top and bottom regions are changed to different projection methods and some middle regions are rotated using 3DoF to extract the watermark. After this processing, extracted watermark has higher accuracy than the conventional watermark method, and the validity of the proposed watermark is shown by showing that the accuracy is maintained even in various attacks.

  • This study was performed to provide preliminary data for the development of a useful instrument to measure the effect of sex education. The study was conducted with the voluntary participation of 155 college students enrolled in the course "Sexuality and Relationship" at Y university in Seoul. At the end of that course, they were asked to write freely about the change they had experienced on sexuality. All meaningful statements were elicited and classified into 7 categories; "Change of Knowledge", "Enlightenment", "Change of Attitude on Sexuality", "Buildup of Ability", "Buildup of. Identity", "Change of Emotion", "Change of Behavior:' There were significant changes in the areas of knowledge(28. 6%), enlightenment(27.4%), and attitudes(20.3%) about sexuality among these 7 categories. The Change of Knowledge category consists of 3 areas: "concretion of knowledge", "increase of information", and "correction of misunderstanding." In the category of Enlightenment, total 12 areas are included: "sex role", "erception of lack of knowledge", "importance of family", "life plan", "parent role", "value of life", "equality", "sexual autonomy", "importance of sexuality", "freedom of sexuality", "perception of sexual problem", and "meaning of love." The Attitude Change category consists of 8 areas. These are "being natural", "being progressive", "being sensitive", "being truthful", "being expressive", "being cautious", "being responsible", and "being confident". The category of Buildup of Ability includes 4 areas: "problem solving", "sex education", "relationship", and "communication". The category of Buildup of Identity includes "sexual identity", and "value of sexuality". The Emotional Change category includes 3 areas: "positive feeling", "negative feeling", and "breaking from negative feeling on sexuality". The Behavior Change category includes "sex-related behavioral change". In conclusion, up to now most researches on sex education effect measures only changes of knowledge, attitude, and behavior. But we believe the changes in "Enlightenment", "Buildup of Ability", "Buildup of Identity", "Change of Emotion", should be included in addition to knowledge, attitude, and behavior in the development of an instrument to measure the sex education effects. And the effect of sex education should measure the degree of learning of autonomy, enlightenment, and ability of behavior and so on rather than studying the simple changes in sexuality.enment", "Buildup of Ability", "Buildup of Identity", "Change of Emotion", should be included in addition to knowledge, attitude, and behavior in the development of an instrument to measure the sex education effects. • This study presents a model to minimize vibration and noise of powertrain mount on a compact car which has the application of Stop & Go performance, in order to reduce CO2 and achieve better fuel-efficiency in accordance with the environmental regulations in automotive industries. In the first step, we analyze the powertrain mount system of the automobile "A" and present variables about rubber stiffness applied on powertrain mount using the Taguchi method. In the next step, we verify the optimization of vibration and noise which meet Stop & Go performance using the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method on the proto products for each variable. Using this validation system on the initial stage of the powertrain mount design, it is expected that we can grasp vibration and noise problems caused by engine movements and control them effectively without engineering know-how about powertrain mount rubber stiffness.

  • A survivability-analysis program has been developed to analyze the ground collision risk of atmospheric reentry objects, such the upper stages of a launch vehicle or satellites, which move at or near the orbital velocity. The aero-thermodynamic load during the free fall, the temperature variation due to thermal load, and the phase shift after reaching the melting point are integrated into the 3 degree-of-freedom trajectory simulation of the reentry objects to analyze the size and weight of its debris impacting the ground. The analysis results of the present method for simple-shaped objects are compared with the data predicted by similar codes developed by NASA and ESA. Also, the analysis for actual reentry orbital objects has been performed, of which results are compared with the measurement data.

  • The mixed convolved action principle provides a new rigorous weak variational formalism for a broad range of initial boundary value problems in mathematical physics and mechanics in terms of mixed formulation, convolution, and fractional calculus. In this paper, its potential in the development of numerical methods for transient problems in various dynamical systems when adopting temporally second order approximation is investigated. For this, the classical single-degree-of-freedom linear elastic dynamical systems are primarily considered to investigate computational characteristics of the developed algorithms. For the undamped system, all the developed algorithms are symplectic with respect to the time step. For the damped system, they are shown to be accurate with good convergence characteristics.

  • Fiber-reinforced composite materials due to their high specific strength, high stiffness and light weight are becoming increasingly used in many engineering industry, especially in the aerospace, marin and civil, etc. In this paper, the buckling load and mode shapes of composite laminates with elliptical cross-section including transverse shear deformations are analyzed. For solving this problems, a versatile flat shell element has been developed by combining a membrane element with drilling degree-of-freedom and a plate bending element. Also, an improved shell element has been established by the combined use of the addition of enhanced assumed strain and the substitute shear strain fields. The combined influence of shell geometry and elliptical cross-sectional parameter, fiber angle, and lay-up on the buckling loads of elliptical cylinder is examined. The critical buckling loads and mode shapes analyzed here may serve as a benchmark for future investigations.
