  • For the high power demand and N+1 redundancy, this paper presents the digital load share (LS) controller design and the implementation of paralleled phase-shifted full-bridge converters (PSFBC) used in distributed power systems. By adopting the digital control strategy, separately used ICs for PSFBC and LS control functions in analog systems can be merged into a cost-effective digital controller. To compensate and stabilize both PSFBC and LS loops with the direct digital design approaches, small-signal model of the system is derived in discrete-time domain. The steady-state and dynamic load sharing performances are also investigated. Experimental results from two 1.2 kW paralleled PSFBC modules are shown to verify the proposed work.

  • This paper investigates a power supply of medium voltage with enhanced ignition characteristics for plasma torch. Series resonant half-bridge topology is presented to be a suitable ignition circuitry. The ignition circuitry is integrated into the main power conversion system of a multi-phase staggered three-level dc-dc converter with a diode front-end rectifier. The plasma torch rated for 3MW, 2kA and having the physical size of 1m long is selected to be a high enthalpy source in waste disposal system. The steady-state and transient operations of plasma torch are simulated. The parameters of Cassie-Mary arc model are calculated based on 3D magneto-hydrodynamic simulations. Circuit simulation waveform shows that the ripple of arc current can be maintained within ${\pm}10%$ of its rated value under the existence of load disturbance. This power conversion configuration provides high enough ignition voltage around 5KA during ignition phase and high arc stability under the existence of arc disturbance noise resulting in a high-performance plasma torch system.

  • This study provides a robust control of a grid-connected three-phase two-level photo voltaic inverter. The introduced control method uses the cascade control strategy to regulate AC-side current and DC-link voltage. A robust controller with integration action is used for the inner-loop AC-side current control, which maximizes the convergence rate using a linear matrix inequality-based optimization design method and eliminates the offset error. The robust controller design method considers the parameter uncertainty set to accommodate parameter mismatch and un-modeled components in the inverter model. An outer-loop proportional-integral controller is used to regulate DC-link voltage with linearization of DC/AC relation. The proposed control strategy is applied to a grid-connected 100 kW photo voltaic inverter.

  • In this paper, optimized model was designed for the starting characteristic of the Single-Phase Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor by using the Design of Experiment. A field pole angle, thickness and distance from center axis of permanent magnet were selected as design factor. We executed the transient state characteristic analysis of 8 test models. The transient state characteristic analysis was executed by using the 2 dimensional Finite Element Method and the Time Difference Method. We checked the fact that the selected design factor affected starting characteristic of the Line-Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor. Depend on this result we found the optimized design point by using the response optimization.

  • The present paper examined the kinetics of photocatalytic degradation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including gaseous trichloroethylene (TCE) and acetone. In this study, we examined the effects of the initial concentration of VOCs and the light intensity of ultra-violet (UV). A batch photo-reactor was specifically designed for this work. The photocatalytic degradation rate increased with the initial concentration of VOCs but remained almost constant beyond a certain concentration. It matched well with the Langmuir-Hinshelwood (L-H) kinetic model. When the effect of light intensity was concerned, it was found that photocatalytic degradation occurs in two regimes with respect to light intensity.

  • Steady and physiological flows of a Newtonian fluid and blood in the abdominal gorta/iliac artery bifurcation are numerically simulated to understand the etiology and pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. Distributions of velocity, pressure, and wall shear stress in the bifurcated arterial vessel model are calculated to investigate the differences of flow characteristics between steady and physiological flows and to compare flow characteristics of blood with that of a Newtonian fluid For the given Reynolds number the flow characteristics of physiological flows for a Newtonian fluid and blood in the bifurcated arterial vessel are quite different from thcse of steady flows. No flow separation or flow reversal in the bifurcated region appears downstream of a stenosis during the acceleration phase. However, during the deceleration phase the flow exhibits flow separation in the outer walls of daugtlter branches, which extends to the entire wall region.

  • The present day mass functions of main sequence stars in the well observed open clusters, Hyades, Praesepe, Pleiades, NGC 654 and NGC 6530 arc derived and compared with those computed from the model of time-dependent initial mass function and star formation rate. The agreements between the observed and computed present day mass functions suggest the importance of fragmentation process at the early phase and fragment interaction at the later phase of cluster evolution. This process of star formation is different from that related to the evolution of the solar neighborhood, and also could explain the lack of low mass stars observed in some open clusters.

  • For a simple one-dimensional ignition problem a mathematical model is described to investigate the difficulties in numerical simulations. Some computation results are obtained and comparison is made with analytical solution. Discussions are made on topics such as 1) coordinate transformation, 2) gas-phase and solid-phase analysis; (divergence form of the governing system, a finite-volume discretization, implicit time integration, upwind split flux, spatial accuracy improvement are described. Mass, reagent mass, and energy conservations are solved.), and 3) method to determine quantities on the burning surface (matching). Results obtained for small values of the non-dimensional pressure show a steady-combustion and good agreement with the analytical solution. Numerical instability appeared for larger values of the pressure, discussion on the cause of the problem is made. This effort is a part of a study of flame spread phenomena on solid propellant surface.

  • The paper discusses the use of stable emulsion, prepared by membrane emulsification technology, to improve the enantiocatalytic performance of immobilised lipase in multiphasic membrane reactors. The production of optical pure (S)-naproxen from racemic naproxen methyl ester has been used as model reaction system. The enzyme was immobilised in the sponge layer (shell side) of capillary polyamide membrane with 50 kDa cut-off, The O/W emulsion, containing the substrate in the organic dispersed phase, was fed to the enzyme membrane reactor from shell-to-lumen. The results evidenced that lipase maintained stable activity during all the operation time (more than 250 hours), showing an enantiomeric excess (96 $\pm$2%) comparable to the free enzyme (98 $\pm$ 1%) and much higher compared to similar lipase-loaded membrane reactors used in two-separate phase systems (90%). The study showed that immobilised enzymes can achieve high stability as well as high catalytic activity and enantioselectivity.

  • In this study, PZT/PVDF composites with O-3 phase connectivity were prepared by hot pressing method, and the dielectric and piezoelectric properties as a function of PZT volume fraction were investigated. A modified cubic model was introduced to explain the influence of the PZT volume fraction on the experimentally determined dielectric constant. As A n=0.125, the measured dielectric constant values agreed with the calculated values. It was found that dielectric constant .xi.$_{33}$ and piezoelectric coefficient d$_{33}$ increased with indreasing PZT volume fraction, and hydrostatic piezoelectric figure of merit d/aub h/.g$_{h}$ was improved relative to that of the PZT single phase material.l.l.l.
