A New Nanohybrid Photocatalyst between Anatase (TiO2) and Layered Titanate

  • A new microporous TiO2-pillared layered titanate has been successfully prepared by hybridizing the exfoliated titanate with the anatase TiO2 nano-sol. According to the X-ray diffraction analysis and N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, the TiO2-pillared layered titanate showed a pillar height of ~2 nm with a high surface area of ~460 m2/g and a pore size of ~0.95 nm, indicating that a microporous pillar structure is formed. Its photocatalytic activity was evaluated by measuring the photodegradation rate of 4-chlorophenol during irradiation of catalyst suspensions in an aqueous solution. An enhancement in activity of ca. 170% was obtained for TiO2-pillared layered titanate compared to that of the pristine compound such as layered cesium titanate.

  • An efficient synthesis of 5-chloro-3-[4-(3-diethylaminopropoxy)benzoyl]-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)benzofuran (8), a potent $\beta$-amyloid aggregation inhibitor, is described. 5-Chloro-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)benzofuran (3) was obtained by the one-pot synthesis of 4-chlorophenol with $\omega$(methylsulfinyl)-p-methoxyacetophenone (1) under Pummerer reaction conditions, and it was followed by the desulfurization of the resultant 5-chloro-3-methylthio-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)benzofuran (2e). Acylation of benzofuran 3 with 4-(3-bromopropoxy)benzoyl chloride (6) gave the ketone 7, which was converted into compound 8 by the treatment of diethylamine.

Phosphamidon과 Profenofos의 광분해성 (Photodegradation of Phosphamidon and Profenofos)

  • The present study was performed to investigate photodegradation rate constants and degradation products of phosphamidon and profenofos by the USEPA method. The two pesticides were very stable in 16 days exposure of sunlight from September 3 to 22, 1999 and humic acid had no sensitizing effect on the photolysis of each pesticide in sunlight. In the UV irradiation test, phosphamidon was rapidly degraded as increasing UV intensity. In case of UV irradiation with TiO2 and with TiO2 powder amount, degradation of profenofos showed no significant difference with UV irradiation. Photodegradation rate of profenofos was slower than that of phosphamidon. In order to identify photolysis products, the extracts of degradation products were analyzed by GC/MS. The mass spectra of photolysis products of phosphamidon were at m/z 153 and 149, those of the profenofos were at m/z 208 and 240, respectively. It was suggested that the photolysis products of phosphamidon were 0, 0-dimethyl phosphate(DMP) and N, N-diethylchloroacetamide, those of profenofos were 4-bromo-2-chlorophenol and 0-ethyl-S-propyl phosphate.

New Polyarylates Prepared from 2,5-Bis($\alpha$-phenylisopropyl)hydroquinone, Terephthalic Acid and Isophthalic Acid

  • A new series of polyarylate copolyesters were prepared by melt polycondensation of 1,4-diacetoxy-2,5-(α-phenylisopropyl)benzene with mixture of terephthalic acid and isophthalic acid in varying ratio. And their general properties such as the glass transition temperature, crystalline melting temperature, crystallinity and solubility were studied. The intrinsic viscosity values of the present polymers measured in a mixed solvent of phenol/p-chlorophenol/1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane ranged from 0.45 to 0.66 depending on the composition and molecular weight. The copolyesters containing greater than 20 mole % of isophthalic acid were found to be amorphous, whereas the homopolymer derived from terephthalic acid was semicrystalline with a melting point of 414℃. The glass transition temperatures of the polymers ranged from 165 to 180℃ depending on the composition. The copolyesters containing 50 mole % and greater of isophthalic acid moiety were soluble at room temperature in such common solvents as tetrahydrofuran, chloroform and N,N-dimethylformamide.

Peroxidase에 의한 방향성 유해물질의 제거 (Peroxidase-Catalyzed Removal of Aromatic Pollutants)

  • 페놀이 포함되어 있는 수용액에 HRP 및 $H_2O_2$를 첨가하여 페놀을 침전 및 제거시키는 방법에서, 페 놀의 종류와 페놀 및 $H_2O_2$의 농도가 HRP의 페놀제거 효율에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 여러 가지 페 놀성분은 최척 완충용액 (pH 5~7) 에서 HRP와 $H_2O_2$를 사용해서 90% 이상 제거할 수 있었다. $H_2O_2$ 의 농도가 10mM 이상일 때 HRP의 페놀제거 효율 이 급격히 감소하였으며 HzOz의 농도가 50mM 이 상얼 때 HRP의 페놀제거 효율은 거의 없었다. HRP 한 분자당 제거할 수 있는 페놀의 분자수 (turnover number)는 $H_2O_2$ 빛 페놀물질의 초기농 도가 각각 ImM일 때, p-ethoxyphenol의 경우 18047로 가장 켰으며 m-chlorophenol의 경우 1244로서 가장 척였다. 페놀과 반응 후($25^{\circ}C$, 24h) 반응물질로부터 분리된 HRP의 Soret 파장 (404nm)에셔의 흡광도는 원래효소의 48%로 감소 하였고 kcat 및 kcatjKm값은 각각 원래효소의 41 %와 51 %로 감소함으로서 페놀 제거시 HRP의 구 조변화 및 활성저하가 초래되었음을 알 수 있었다. 페놀과 함께 비 페놀계 방향성 물질인 벤젠, 에틸벤 젠, 툴루엔 (BET)을 포함하고 있는 용액 에 HRP 빛 $H_2O_2$를 첨가하면 BET의 제거율이 증가하였다.

미환경청 분류 11종 상위 환경오염 페놀들의 나이트로소화 (Nitrosation of U.S. E.P.A. Classified Eleven Priority Pollutant Phenols)

  • 페놀 (POH) 용액에 염산과 아질산나트륨을 가하고 이 혼합물 용액의 온도를 상승시키면서 POH의 나이트로소화 반응의 최적조건을 발견하였다. 염산과 아질산나트륨 농도, 반응온도, 그리고 반응시간 변화가 나이트로소페놀 생성에 미치는 효과를 관찰함으로서 발견한 것이다. 결과, POH의 나이트로소화의 최적조건은 0.10 M 이상의 HCl 농도, $5.0{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}2.0{\times}10^{-3}M$ 범위의 $NO{_2}^-$ 농도, $80^{\circ}C$의 반응온도, 그리고 3시간의 반응시간이었다. POH 이외의 10종 미국환경청 분류 상위환경오염페놀들의 나이트로소화 반응도 이 조건에서 진행시켰다. 나이트로소화 반응을 받는 페놀은 POH, 2-클롤로페놀 (2ClPOH), 2,4-다이클롤로페놀 (24diClPOH), 2,4-다이메틸페놀(24diMPOH), 4-클롤로-3-메틸페놀 (4Cl3MPOH), 그리고 적은 양의 2-나이트로페놀 (2NPOH)이었다. 산성 용액에서 나이트로소화된 페놀이나 되지 않은 페놀 여러 종의 최대흡광파장(${\lambda}_{max}$)은 300 nm 부근이었고, 염기성 용액에서는 2,4,6-트리클롤로페놀 (246triClPOH)과 펜타클롤로페놀 (pentaClPOH)을 제외하고, 그 외 모든 페놀들의 ${\lambda}_{max}$는 400 nm부근이었다. 염기성 용액에서 나이트로소화된 POH 및 그 유도체들의 400 nm에서의 몰흡광계수 (${\varepsilon}$)는 이들의 산성 용액 300 nm에서의 ${\varepsilon}$보다 1.5~2.0배 정도였다. 모세관-고성능액체크로마토그래피 (Capillary-HPLC)의 크로마토그램에 의하여 반응용액 중 $NO{_2}^-$ 농도가 0.003 M 이상일 때는 과량의 $NO{_2}^-$가 나이트로소 페놀의 생성을 방해함도 발견하였다.

Bis(trichlorophenoxy) ethane(BTPE)의 합성 및 살충효력에 관한 연구(I) (Studies on insecticidal activity and synthesis of Bis (trichlorophenoxy) ethane)

  • Chlorophenol 유도체들이 농약으로 많이 사용되고 있으므로 저자들은 Trichlorophenol과 Dibromoethane으로 Bis(2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy) ethane 과 Bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenoxy) ethane을 합성하고 mice에 대한 독성 및 Bis(2,4,5-trichlorophenoxy) ethane의 귤응애, 누에 및 무우잎별레에 대한 살충작용을 Phenkapton, Tedion V-18. BHC 및 DBT 등과 비교관찰하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. (1) Bis(2,4,5-trichlorophenory) ethane의 yield 는 8.0g $(50.06\%)\;(m.p. 157-159^{\circ}C)$이며 Bis(2,4,6-trichlorophenoxy) ethane 의 yield는 5.2g $(32.60\%)\;(m.p. 162-163^{\circ}C}$였다. (2) Bis(2,4,6-trichlophenoxy) ethane의 귤응애(Citrusred mite)에 대한 살충작용은 Tedion V-18 보다 강하고 Phenkapton에 비해서는 약하다. (3) 누에 (Bombix mori)에 대한 살충작용은 BHC 및 DDT보다 약하다. (4) 무잎별레(Daikon leaf beetle)에 대해서는 살충력이 없였다. (5) 2,4,5-BTPE 및 2,4,6-BTPE는 체중 k9당 5g씩 mice에 경구투여한 바 72시간동안 한 마리도 죽지 않아 독성은 적은 것으로 본다.

난분해성 할로겐 치환 Phenol의 분해 (Biodegradation of Recalcitrant Halogen Substituted-Phenol)

  • Halogen substituted-phenol and analog phenol degrading strains were identified as Aeromonas, Moraxella, and Flavobacterium genus. Optimal degrading condition was generally 50~100 $\mu$M substituted-phenol as carbon source, $NH_4NO_3$ as nitrogen source, 30$\circ$C , and initial pH 7.2. $\rho$-Chlorophenol degrading strain of Aeromonas sp. C4 had biodegradability to the various substituted-phenols. Flavobacterium sp. M9 had substrate specificity to methyl substituted-function. Catechol was cleavaged by catechol 1, 2-dioxygenase in Aeromonas sp. C4, Moraxella sp. N7, and Flavobacterium sp. M9.

Simultaneous determination of bisphenol A, chlorophenols and alkylphenols by solid-phase extraction and HPLC

  • An analytical method for determining potential endocrine disruptors (bisphenol A, 2-chlorophenol, 2,4-dichlorophenol, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol, pentachlorophenol, p-t-butylphenol, p-pentylphenol, p-hexylphenol, p-t-octylphenol, p-heptylphenol, nonylphenol) by solid-phase extraction (SPE) and High Perfomance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC) equipped with fluorescence and variable wavelength detector has been developed. The SPE process for sample concentration was performed on a commercially available Oasis HLB cartridge packed with polymeric sorbents. The effect of elution solvent and elution volume on the recoveries of the analytes were investigated with HPLC. Average recovery of >85% was achieved with 60mg sorbents using 5mL of methanol as elution solvent. Phenolic compounds in canned drinks, beverages and water samples were surveyed by this proposed method.

Chlorophenol류의 세포화학적 독성에 관한 연구 (Studies on Cytochemical Toxicities of Chlorophenols to the Rat)

  • Chlorination of the polluted water may produce odoriferous and objectionable-tasting chlorophenols which are hazardous to health. These studies were undertaken to investigate the hazardous effects of chlorophenols to the rat. 1. The chlorophenols such as o-chlorophenol and 2,6-dichlorophenol inhibited rat growth and caused increment of the ratio between liver weight and body weight. 2. The hemoglobin content, hamatocrit ratio and A/G of rat blood were decreased by chlorophenols administration. The activities of alkaline phosphatase, lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) and glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase (GOT) in serum as well as in liver were increased provisonally and decreased after one or two weeks adminstration. 3. The liver mitochondrial respiration ($QO_{2}$) was inhibited by chlorophenols treatment in in-vivo and in-vitro test. 4. The liver microsomal cytochrome P-450 was decreased by chlorophenols administration 5. Liver tissue was degenerated with congestion, atrophy, swelling, vacuolation, dilation of rough endoplasmic reticulum and denature of mitochondrial particle with swelling, and cristal destruction by chlorophenols adminstration. 6. After one and two weeks of adminstration of chlorophenols to rat, the aberrations of bone marrow chromosome and inhibition of its mitosis were observed respectively.
