The chemical structure of a semi-aromatic polyimide-I, which was prepared by the chemical imidization of cyclopentanetetracarboxylic dianhydride and 2,2-bis(4-aminophenyl)hexafluoropropane, was characterized by $^{13}C-NMR$ spectroscopy. The chemically imidized polyimide-I was used for the preparation of a photosensitive polyimide (PSPI) through the addition of benzophenone and benzophenone oxime hexamethylene diurethane (BOHD), a photobase generator containing oxime-urethane groups. The polyimide-I film containing benzophenone and BOHD was not soluble in 2.38 wt% tetrabutylammonium hydroxide solution in $H_2O$. However, it became soluble following irradiation with 310 nm UV light. A positive tone image with a resolution of $5{\mu}m$ was obtained with this PSPI, having sensitivity($D_c$) of $1.2J/cm^2$ and contrast(${\gamma}_p$) of 1.08. Thus, a polyimide, which is not intrinsically photosensitive, can become photosensitive through the addition of a photobase generator containing oxime-urethane groups as a photosensitive compound.

Free-radical copolymerization of glycidyl methacrylate(GMA) and N-phthalimidoethyl acrylate(NPEA) were carried out at $60^{\circ}C$ in dimethylformamide(DMF) solution in the presence of benzoylperoxide(BPO) at low conversion. The polymers were characterized by IR and $^1H$-NMR. The compositions of the copolymer was analyzed by ultra violet(UV/Vis) spectrophotometry. The reactivity ratios of the monomer was determined by the application of Fineman-Ross(FR) and Kelen-T$\ddot{u}$d$\ddot{o}$s(KT) methods. The monomer reactivity ratios of the system and Alfrey-Price's resonance effect(Q) and polar effect(e) value for NIEA were determined as follow. The reactivity ratios of the monomer obtained from FR and KT are found to be $r_1$=0.87, $r_2$=0.98 and $r_1$=0.88, $r_2$=0.99 respectively. The Q and e values of poly(GMA-co-NPEM) calculated from $r_1$ and $r_2$ was Q= 1.31, e=0.75 respectively.
A periodic mesoporous organosilica material was synthesized by microwave heating (PMO-M) using 1,2-bis(trimethoxysilyl)ethane as a precursor in a cationic surfactant solution, and textural properties were compared with those of the product produced by conventional convection heating (PMO-C). These synthesized materials were characterized using XRD, TEM/SEM, N2 adsorption isotherm, 29Si and 13C NMR, and TGA, which confirmed their good structural orders and clear arrangements of uniform 3D-channels. Synthesis time was reduced from 21 h in PMO-C to 2-4 h in PMO-M. PMO-M was made of spherical particles of 1.5-2.2 m m size, whereas PMO-C was made of decaoctahedron-shaped particles of ca. 8.0 m m size. Effect of synthesis temperature, time, and heating mode on the PMO particle morphology was examined. The particle size of PMO-M could be controlled by changing the heating rate by adjusting microwave power level. PMO-M demonstrated improved separation of selected organic compounds compared to PMO-C in a reversed phase HPLC experiment. Ti-grafted PMO-M also resulted in higher conversion in liquid phase cyclohexene epoxidation than by Ti-PMO-C.
A bacterial strain LC-413, producing extracellular inulin fructotransferase which converts inulin into di-D-fructofuranose dianhydride(DFAIII) and amount of oilgosaccharides, was isolated from soil and pre-sumed as Flavobacteium sp. LC-413. The enzyme production was induced by inulin as carbon source and enhanced by the addition of 0.3% malt extract and 0.2% {TEX}$NaNO_{3}${/TEX} as nitrogen source. The enzyme activity in the culture supernatant reached at the maximum, 78.6units/ml, after 11 hours of cultivation in the medium composition of 1.5% inulin, 0.2% {TEX}$NaNO_{3}${/TEX}, 0.05% {TEX}$K_{2}${/TEX}{TEX}$HPO_{4}${/TEX}, 0.05% {TEX}$MgSO_{4}${/TEX}.7{TEX}$H_{2}${/TEX}O, 0.05% KCI, a trace amount of {TEX}$FeSO_{4}${/TEX}.7{TEX}$H_{2}${/TEX}O, and 0.3% malt ext. at 3$0^{\circ}C$. The oilgosaccharide produced by enzyme reaction from inulin was identified as DFA III by and {TEX}${13}^C${/TEX}-NMR spectrosocpy.
[Fe$^{II}$(BLPA)DBCH]BPh₄ (1), a new functional model for the extradiol-cleaving catechol dioxygenases, has been synthesized, where BLPA is bis(6-methyl-2-pyridylmethyl)(2-pyridylmethyl)amine and DBCH is 3,5-di-tert-butylcatecholate monoanion. ¹H NMR and EPR studies confirm that 1 has a high-spin Fe(II) (S = 2) center. The electronic spectrum of 1 exhibits one absorption band at 386 nm, showing the yellow color of the typical [Fe$^{II}$(BLPA)] complex. Upon exposure to O₂, 1 is converted to an intense blue species within a minute. This blue species exhibits two intense bands at 586 and 960 nm and EPR signals at g = 5.5 and 8.0 corresponding to the high-spin Fe(III) complex (S = 5/2, E/D = 0.11). This blue complex further reacts with O₂ to be converted to (μ-oxo)Fe$^{III}_2$ complex within a few hours. Interestingly, 1 affords intradiol cleavage (65%) and extradiol cleavage (20%) products after the oxygenation. It can be suggested that 1 undergoes two different oxygenation pathways. The one takes the substrate activation mechanism proposed for the intradiol cleavage products after the oxidation of the $Fe^II\;to\;Fe^{III}$. The other involves the direct attack of O₂ to $Fe^{II}$ center, forming the $Fe^{III}$-superoxo intermediate which can give rise to the extradiol cleavage products. 1 is the first functional Fe(II) complex for extradiol-cleaving dioxygenases giving extradiol cleavage products.
Sixteen antioxidative active compounds isolated from the EtOAc layer of MeOH extracts of kochujang, Korean fermented red pepper paste, were structurally elucidated as fumaric acid, methyl succinate, succinic acid furan-2-yl ester methyl ester (gochujangate, a novel compound), 2-hydroxy-3-phenylpropanoic acid, 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 2,3-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 2,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid, 6,7-dihydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one (esculetin), caffeic acid, cis-p-coumaric acid, trans-p-coumaric acid, daidzin, genistin, apigenin 7-O-$\beta$-D-apiofuranosyl($1{\rightarrow}2$)-$\beta$-D-glucopyranoside, apigenin 7-O-$\beta$-Dglucopyranoside, and quercetin 3-O-$\alpha$-L-rhamnopyranoside by mass spectrometry (MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments. These compounds were analyzed for the first time as antioxidants from kochujang.
Multilayer Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films coated on quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) of octa-substituted metallophhtalocyanines ($MPc(OEH)_8$, M = Cu, Co, and Sn) and dihydrogen phthalocyanines ($H_2Pc(OEH)_8$) were used to quantify $NO_2$ concentrations. They were exposed to various concentrations of $NO_2$ in dry $N_2$. Among the four phthalocyanines we tested, the metal-free $H_2Pc(OEH)_8$ was observed to be most sensitive to $NO_2$. However, its LB film showed a partially irreversible behavior, that is part of the frequency change due to $NO_2$ adsorption could not be recovered even after purging with pure $N_2$ gas for an extended period. Examining the spectra of NMR and FTIR revealed fact that the irreversible portion of frequency change was due to ether groups in the linkage between side chains and the Pc unit. In order to remove the effect of such initial deactivation, on $NO_2$ quantification experiment, a freshly fabricated LB film was treated at a high concentration of $NO_2$ so that the ether sites were saturated. A pretreated LB film showed a reproducible performance for repeated uses. The $CuPc(OEH)_8$ LB film showed a satisfactory sensing performance down to as low as 4 ppm. For the $H_2Pc(OEH)_8$ LB film, the lower detection limit was found to be 35ppb of $NO_2$. In order to make the experimental condition more realistic, the carrier gas, dry nitrogen, was replaced by air. It was observed that the presence of oxygen, a weak electron acceptor, reduced the sensitivity and thus increased the sensing limit to hundreds of ppb. Results of experiments with moisture added showed that the interference of moisture was quite severe.
2- or 6-Substituted BZT-N derivatives were synthesized, and their cytotoxic activity against can-cer L1210 and SNU-1 cells was examined. The antitumor action was also assessed in mice bearing S-180 cells in peritoneal cavity. In a comparison, it was found that 6-substituted BZT-N derivatives exhibited higher potencies in both bioactivities than 2-substituted BZT-N derivatives against L1210 cells in in vitro and S-180 in vitro tests exception of compound 36. Interestingly, it was observed that 2-substituted compound 36, which has methyl group at RI position, exhib-ited a better antitumor activity than 6-substituted compounds against L1210 and SNU-1 in vitro. The EDso value of 2-substituted compound 36 against L1210 was found to be comparable to the EDso value of adriamycin and was even better against the solid cancer cell line SNU-1. It was also observed that 2-substituted compound 36 showed better antitumor activity in mice bearing S-180 cells in the peritoneal cavity. The T/C (%) value of 2-substituted compound 36 was simi-lar to that of adriamycin. Quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) tests reveal that the experimental E $D_{50}$ values against SNU-1 closely correlate with both the calculated HOMO ener-gies ( $E_{HOMO}$) and the measured H-NMR chemical shift of 3-H ($\delta$$_{H}$). The results suggests that a compound having higher $E_{HOMO}$ and $\delta$$_{H}$ values usually should have a lower E $D_{50}$ (SNU-1) value.lue.lue.lue.
The polysiloxane-bridged dinuclear metallocenes $[(SiMe_2O)_n-SiMe_2(C_5H_4)_2][(C_9H_7)ZrCl_2]_2$ (n=1 (7), 2 (8), 3 (9)) have been generated as a model complex for the immobilized metallocene at silica surface by treating the respective disodium salts of the ligands with 2 equivalents of $(C_9H_7)ZrCl_3$ in THF. All three complexes are characterized by $^1H$ NMR and measurement of metal content through ICP-MS. It turned out that the values of ${\Delta}{\delta}=[{\delta}_d-{\delta}_p]$, the chemical shift difference between the distal $({\delta}_d)$ and proximal $({\delta}_p)$ protons, for the produced dinuclear compounds (0.47 for 7, 0.49 for 8, and 0.5 for 9) were larger than the Δδ value of the known ansa-type complex holding the same ligand as a chelating one, that is just the opposite to the normal trend. In order to compare polymerization behavior of the dinuclear metallocene with the corresponding mononuclear metallocene, (Cp)$(C_9H_7)ZrCl_2$ was separately prepared. To investigate the catalytic properties of the dinuclear complexes and mononuclear metallocenes ethylene polymerization has been conducted in the presence of MMAO. The polymerization results display the typical activity dependence on polymerization temperature for all complexes. The most important feature is that the polymers from the dinuclear metallocenes represent enormously improved molecular weight compared with the polymer from the corresponding mononuclear metallocene. In addition, the influence of the nature of the bridging ligand upon the reactivities of the dinuclear metallocenes has also been observed.
We isolated and identified antioxidants from acidic and neutral ethyl acetate fractions of the peel of pear (Pyrus pyrifolia N. cv. Chuhwangbae). We isolated 4 compounds from the methanol extract, by using 3 different types of column chromatography (Sephadex LH-20, silica gel, and octadecylsilane) and preparative HPLC. We identified the isolated compounds as (S)-(+)-2-cis-abscisic acid O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosyl ester (compound 1), 1-[4-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranosyl]phenyl ethanone (picroside, compound 2), ${\beta}$-sitosterol (compound 3), and ${\beta}$-sitosteryl 3-O-${\beta}$-D-glucopyranoside (compound 4) by nuclear magnetic resonance analysis. We are the first to report the identification of compounds 1, 2, and 4 from pear.
