In this study, evaluation of samples' reflection of in-situ condition was performed for those by 225 mm KICT large sampler and NX size piston sampler. Disturbance analysis was conducted for the clay sampled by two kinds of sampler throughout consolidation tests, uniaxial tests and triaxial test, under the same condition. From the analysis it can be seen that not only the initial void ratio and preconsolidation pressure from KICT large sampler but strength parameters from both uniaxial and triaxial compression tests are also about 10% higher than those of NX size piston sampler's.
The microstructure and bond strength were investigated on the SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel joints brazed by Ag-5at%Ti alloy. Ag-5at%Ti-2at%Fe and -5at%Fe brazing alloys were also used to see the effects of Fe addition on the bond strength of SiC/SiC brazed joints. Brazing temperature and brazing gap were selected and examined as brazing variables. The microstructure of SiC/SiC brazed joints was affected by Fe addition to the Ag-5at%Ti alloy, but the bond strength was not. Increasing brazing temperature also changed the microstructure of $Ti_5Si_3$ reaction layer and brazing alloy matrix of the SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel joints, but not the bond strength. Brazing gap had a great effects on the bond strength. Decreasing brazing gap from 0.2 mm to 0.1 mm in SiC/SiC brazing increased the bond strength from 187 MPa to 263 MPa and, in SiC/mild steel brazing, from 189 MPa to 212 MPa. It was concluded that the most important parameter on the bond strength in SiC/SiC and SiC/mild steel brazing was the relative ratio between brazing gap and specimen size.
Twenty four types of thermopile for micro spectrometer infrared sensors were fabricated on low-stress Si3N4 membranes with $l.2{\mu}m-thickness$ using MEMS technology. Thermopile were designed and fabricated for optimum conditions by five parameters of thermocouple numbers $(16\sim48)$, thermocouple line widths $(10{\mu}m-25{\mu}m)$, thermocouple lengths $(100{\mu}m-500{\mu}m)$, membrane areas $(12mm2\sim2.52mm2)$ and junction areas $(150{\mu}m2\sim750{\mu}m2)$, respectively. It was thought that measurement results could be used for thermopile infrared sensors optimum structure for micro spectrometers.

We studied the change of photovoltaic properties of a flexible CuInxGa(1-x)Se2 (CIGS) solar cell fabricated on polyimide by mechanical bending with curvature radii of 75 mm (75R) and 20 mm (20R). The flexible CIGS cells were flattened on a PET film, then placed and forced against the surface of a curved block fabricated with pre-designed curvatures. Both up (compressive) and down (tensile) bending were applied to a specimen of CIGS on PET with curvatures of 75R and 20R for 10,000 times and 2,000 times, respectively. From J-V measurements, we found that the conversion efficiency (Eff.) was reduced by 3% and 4% for up-and down-bending, respectively, at curvature 75R; it was greatly reduced by 15% for curvature 20R in the up-bending. However, the open circuit voltage (Voc) and short-circuit current density (Jsc) seemed to change little, within 3%, for the applied mechanical stresses. The degradation in Eff. resulted from the deterioration of the series (Rs) and shunt (Rsh) resistances of the solar cell.

In vehicle door system, weatherstrip seals protect passengers form noise, dust, rain and wind out of the vehicle. The higher efficient a weatherstrip is, the more durable it is in contact between the door and body frame. In this study, nonlinear finite element(FE) analysis is performed to obtain cauchy-stresses, displacements and reaction forces of the weatherstrip. Mechanical properties of the weatherstrip is obtained by uniaxial tension test. The MARC which is a commercial software for the nonlinear analysis of a flexible FE model is used. Twenty-one cases of the FE model are developed by using Ogden-foam formulation. In the results of nonlinear FE analysis, the most valuable deformation of the weatherstrip occurred when displacement control value reaches 7.2mm. Severe deformation is observed as the displacement control value become more increased. When the weatherstrip is designed, it would be considered that the displacement value of the weatherstrip has to be less than 7.2mm.

A stress analysis was performed to verify the stability of the digging part of a garlic harvester. A finite element analysis was performed to examine the distribution and concentrated loads on the digging part of the blade and contact plate. Moreover, the stability and maximum deformation of the digging part were determined. Under a distributed load, the maximum principal stress, total deformation, and minimum safety factor ranged from 64-128 MPa, 0.35-0.70 mm, and 2.9-5.7, respectively. The analysis results for the distribution load indicated that the maximum stress occurred at the center of the blade. In contrast, under the concentrated load, the maximum principal stress, total deformation, and minimum safety factor ranged from 66-247 MPa, 0.35-0.79 mm, 1.48-5.53, respectively. The analysis results for the concentrated load indicated that stress and deformation were larger toward the edge and center, respectively.

A load effect by vehicles running on a road and an increase of traffic is distinguished as a serious issue in the level of bridges' maintenance and management since it causes a quick damage of bridges. The expansion joint is the most important since it makes vehicles' traveling amicable and stress or additional load harmful to molding patterns minimized. However, it is very difficult to measure its expansion length since vehicles continue to pass on the expansion joint. Therefore, the study could see that it was possible to carry out a qualitative and quantitative maintenance and management if its expansion length is extracted with images. The study could acquire three dimensional coordinates of expansion joints with images. As the results of calculating RMSE of check point residual at 32 points in A area and at 28 points in B area, both A and B areas had very good results of RMSEsms 0.829mm~1.680mm. As the results of analyzing expansion length and immediate value extracted by images, the study analyzed that RMSE of A area was 0.64mm and RMSE of B area was 0.28. The average residual of A area was 0.60% and the average rresidual of B area was 0.27%. Therefore, it is judged that it is more scientific and efficient than the past to measure expansion length with images at the time of repairing and managing bridges in the future.
Objective: To evaluate the extent and aspect of stress to the cortical bone after application of a lateral force to a two-component orthodontic mini-implant (OMI, mini-implant) by using three-dimensional finite element analysis (FEA). Methods: The 3D-finite element models consisted of the maxilla, maxillary first molars, second premolars, and OMIs. The screw part of the OMI had a diameter of 1.8 mm and length of 8.5 mm and was placed between the roots of the upper second premolar and the first molar. The cortical bone thickness was set to 1 mm. The head part of the OMI was available in 3 sizes: 1 mm, 2 mm, and 3 mm. After a 2 N lateral force was applied to the center of the head part, the stress distribution and magnitude were analyzed using FEA. Results: When the head part of the OMI was friction fitted (tapped into place) into the inserted screw part, the stress was uniformly distributed over the surface where the head part was inserted. The extent of the minimum principal stress suggested that the length of the head part was proportionate with the amount of stress to the cortical bone; the stress varied between 10.84 and 15.33 MPa. Conclusions: These results suggest that the stress level at the cortical bone around the OMI does not have a detrimental influence on physiologic bone remodeling.

In this study, strength and durability are investigated using structural and vibration analyses on models 1 and 2 of a press in common use. Model 1 has a structure in which a punch is applied from the upper part to the lower part; however, model 2 a structure in which a punch is applied from the lower part to the upper part. Maximum displacements of models 1 and 2 are 0.018184 mm and 0.025498 mm, respectively. Maximum equivalent stresses of models 1 and 2 are 14.144 MPa and 18.58 MPa respectively. Maximum displacements are shown for the punches of both models; model 1 has less deformation than model 2. Model 1 has more durability than model 2, as determined by an investigation of the structural strength. Using natural frequency analysis, model 1 was found to have maximum deformation in the upper part of punch. Mode1 2 has its maximum deformation in the column part of the body and the upper part of the fixed pin. Using harmonic stress analysis, the maximum deformations were found on the punch part and column part of the body in the cases of models 1 and 2, respectively. As the maximum total deformation and equivalent stress in the case of model 2 are shown to become 40 times those values of model 1, the vibration durability of model 2 can be seen to be weaker than that of model 1.
