  • Recently, interest in and use of drones is increasing. In this study, to provide accurate wind prediction at ultra low altitudes of 150 meters or below, the sensitivity of the physical process parameterization and initial conditions was assessed to select the optimal physical process and initial conditions. For this purpose, GFS and LDAPS data were used as initial and boundary conditions, and 7 experiments were constructed using a combination of PBL schemes such as YSU, RUC, ACM2, and LSM such as Noah, RUC, and Pleim. The experiment conducted for 1 month in April 2018. As a result, the RUC-YSU physical process combination using the GFS initial data showed the best performance. This study is meaningful in establishing an optimal modeling method for ultra low altitude wind prediction through experiments using different initial conditions and combination of physical processes.

  • In this study, a thermoelectric module (TEM) and a diesel engine were modeled using 1-D commercial software AMESim, and the performance of the TEM was evaluated when the engine was operated under the NEDC driving cycle. The goal of TEM modeling was to investigate not only the waste heat recovery (WHR) rate and energy converting efficiency, but also the heat transfer rate by taking the materials characteristics into account. In addition, a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) was designed, and it was found that the waste heat recovery with TEM affects the activation of DOC and alters engine exhaust composition. The simulation indicated that the WHR using TEM is beneficial for decreasing the fuel consumption of vehicles, but the reduction in the exhaust temperature affects the activation of DOC, resulting in an approximately 14% increase in CO and HC emissions. Therefore, the effect of waste heat recovery on the automotive emission characteristics must be considered in the development of automotive engine WHR systems.

  • Object-based image matching algorithms have been widely used in the image processing and computer vision fields. A variety of applications based on image matching algorithms have been recently developed for object recognition, 3D modeling, video tracking, and biomedical informatics. One prominent example of image matching features is the Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) scheme. However many applications using the SIFT algorithm have implemented based on stand-alone basis, not client-server architecture. In this paper, We initially implemented based on client-server structure by using SIFT algorithms to identify and match objects in biomedical images to provide useful information to the user based on the recently released Mobile platform. The major methodological contribution of this work is leveraging the convenient user interface and ubiquitous Internet connection on Mobile device for interactive delineation, segmentation, representation, matching and retrieval of biomedical images. With these technologies, our paper showcased examples of performing reliable image matching from different views of an object in the applications of semantic image search for biomedical informatics.

  • Early-type galaxies (ETGs) are supposed to follow the virial relation $M=k_e{\sigma}^2R_e/G$, with M being the mass, σ* being the stellar velocity dispersion, Re being the effective radius, G being Newton's constant, and ke being the virial factor, a geometry factor of order unity. Applying this relation to (a) the ATLAS3D sample of Cappellari et al. (2013) and (b) the sample of Saglia et al. (2016) gives ensemble-averaged factors 〈ke〉 = 5.15 ± 0.09 and 〈ke〉 = 4.01 ± 0.18, respectively, with the difference arising from different definitions of effective velocity dispersions. The two datasets reveal a statistically significant tilt of the empirical relation relative to the theoretical virial relation such that $M{\propto}({\sigma}^2_*R_e)^{0.92}$. This tilt disappears when replacing Re with the semi-major axis of the projected half-light ellipse, a. All best-fit scaling relations show zero intrinsic scatter, implying that the mass plane of ETGs is fully determined by the virial relation. Whenever a comparison is possible, my results are consistent with, and confirm, the results by Cappellari et al. (2013). The difference between the relations using either a or Re arises from a known lack of highly elliptical high-mass galaxies; this leads to a scaling (1 - ϵ ) ∝ M0.12, with ϵ being the ellipticity and $R_e=a\sqrt[]{1-{\epsilon}}$. Accordingly, a, not Re, is the correct proxy for the scale radius of ETGs. By geometry, this implies that early-type galaxies are axisymmetric and oblate in general, in agreement with published results from modeling based on kinematics and light distributions.

  • This paper represents generation of time-varying underwater acoustic channels by performing scattering simulation with time-varying ocean surface and Kirchhoff approximation. In order to estimate the time-varying ocean surface, 1D Pierson-Moskowitz ocean power spectrum and Gaussian correlation function were used. The computed scattering coefficients are applied to the amplitudes of each impulse of BELLHOP simulation result. The scattering coefficients are then compared with measured doppler spectral density of signal components which were scattered from ocean surface and the correlation time used in the Gaussian correlation function was estimated by the comparison. Finally, bit-error-rate and channel correlation simulations were performed with the generated time-varying channel based on passive time-reversal communication scenario.

  • Under the current IN(Intelligent Network) Architecture, most of their function were performed in SSP(Service Switching point), so the provision or modification of service was limited. To over come these limitation, the structure of 'AIN(Advanced Intelligent Network)' emerged. In this paper, SSP for AIN structure is designed and its performance is evaluated. In other words, the requirements for AIN service implementation are specified on the basis of ITU-T Recommendations. From these requirments and TDX-10 Exchange architecture, the SSP for AIN structure is designed, and its performance is analyzed through the method of simulation and analytical modeling. As a conclusion of this paper, when the system is operated as a standard model, the maximum throughput is 1,270,000 BHCA for Free Phone Service and 1,190,000 BHCA for Credit Call Service. The processors in INS(Interconnection Network Subsystem) are proved to be bottleneck elements. To enhance the performance, several suggestions such as processor and link speedup, and other D_bus service policy are proposed.

  • Photo responsive polymer(PRP) is well known for its photo deformation under UV light, and goes back to its original shape in visible light due to the photoisomerization of the azobenzene inside the PRP. In this paper, dynamic study of the vibration in PRP is discussed. In order to predict photo-deformation of the PRP a multiscale modeling is introduced which covers quantum level photo excitation, microscopic morphology, and macroscopic deformation of the PRP. A simple 1D beam model is introduced to model dynamic bending behavior of the PRP. Through fast Fourious transformation analysis, we identify that vibration frequency of the PRP can be controlled by light polarization angle.

  • The suitable turbulence model is found to be required in the course of establishing a proper analysis methodology for thermal stripping phenomena which are shown in strong temperature variation area such as reactors and propulsion devices. Three different turbulence models of $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ model, modified $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ model, and full Reynolds stress(FRS) model, are applied to analyze unsteady turbulent flows with temperature variation. Three test cases are selected for verification. These are vertical jet flows with water and sodium, and parallel jet flow with sodium. Analysis yields the conclusion that 3-D computation with FRS betters others. However, modified modeling is required to improve its heat transfer characteristic analysis. Further analysis is performed to find momentum variation effects on temperature distribution. It is found that the momentum increase results increase of fluid mixing and magnitude of temperature variation.

  • Short-term prediction of the number of passengers at the airport is very essential for the efficient and stable operation of the airport. Here, to forecast the immigration of Incheon International Airport, we perform the predictive modeling of Korean and Chinese outbound travelers comprising most of immigration. We conduct the Granger Causality test between the number of outbound travelers and related search trend data to confirm the correlation. It is found that the forecasting with both "outbound travelers" and "search term trends" data outperforms the one only with "outbound travelers" data. This is because search activities are done before doing something and this study confirms that search trend data inherently possess the potential for prediction.
